Are you ready to start weaning food for your little charm? Here you go……
Weaning period is the next stepping stone for the mothers to start their tiny tot new variety of foods. As you are going to give the food for the first time apart from your breastmilk feeding, you have to be very careful in choosing the right way to feed your baby. While starting to give the food, you should be aware of the quantity, type of food, timings of your feed, preparation of the food, so that your little charm is happy for the new feed from you. Any baby should be exclusively breastfed for the first six months of life, later mothers can start to introduce a new food for their child. As the child is in drastic period of Growth and Development, it is important to choose giving food in such a way it has balanced proportion of Carbohydrates, proteins, Fats, Vitamins and Minerals. It should also be homemade and proper hygiene is an important factor to be followed. It should also be easily digestible.
It is good to start giving your baby food which is steam baked, soft foods and proteinaceous which is the building blocks for our body.

1. Rice and Moong dal (Dal rice)
The dal rice for the weaning food for babies is one of the best choices. You should also be sure in selecting the quantity of the food you want to feed your child. It should also be boiled well, so that it can be easily digestible for the baby. It is good to concern your pediatricians’ before you start the complementary foods. If you are starting the complementary feed in the sixth month along with Breastmilk feeding, it is good to give 2 – 3 times feeds per day.

Diarrhea & its Epidemiology
Diarrhea is passage of three or more loose stools in a day. It is the most common cause which leads to malnourishment in children. It is one of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity in children up to 5 years of age in developing countries. It has become the most alarming in spite of control schemes and interventions in India. The prevalence has been increased from 9% - 9.2% from 2016 – 2020 in India.

• Dehydration symptoms like decreased skin turgor, meaning that when your child’s skin is pinched and released, the skin does not flatten back to normal right away, Dry mouth, lack of energy, sunken eyes, cheeks, soft spot in the skull, no tears when crying, decrease in frequency of urination.
Prevention of Diarrhea in Children
• Exclusive Breastfeeding
• Proper handwashing and maintaining proper hygiene in children
• Avoid drinking tap water, unpasteurized milk
• Avoid eating foods made outside
• Always wash the fruits and vegetables which is purchased from vendors
• Avoid the foods which are not easily digestable.
