HIBISCUS

Species: Hibiscus syriacus and Hibiscus rosa-sinensis
Common name: Rose of Sharon
Tamil name: Semparuthi
The Hibiscus belongs to a family of large flowering plants native to tropical and warm temperate regions of the world. They can be annual or perennial plants varing in size from woody shrubs to small trees. The flowers are large, conspicuous, trumpet-shaped, with five or more petals, colour from white to pink, red, blue, orange, peach, yellow or purple.
A tea made from hibiscus flowers, red in colour and tart flavour is popular in many parts of the world.

IXORA
Family: Rubiaceae
Species: Ixora coccinea
Common Name: Jungle geranium, Flame of the woods, West Indian jasmine
Sinduram and Idli Poo in Tamil
The Ixora is a flowering tropical evergreen tree or shrub that holds around 562 species. It is a tropical and sub-tropical plant that has a large diversity in tropical Asia. The plants has leathery leaves, about 3 to 6 inches in length, and has terminal large clusters of tiny flowers (corymbs) in the summer. It is used for hedges and screens, or massed in flowering beds. There are a large number of cultivars differing in flower colour (yellow, pink, orange) and plant size - the dwarfs are popular. The flowers, leaves, roots, and the stem are used to treat various ailments in ayurveda medicine.

WHITE SPIDER LILY
Family: Liliaceae
Species: Hymenocallis littoralis
Common Name: White Spider Lily or Beach Spider Lily
The Spider Lily is a bulbous perennial boasting eye-catching umbels of 6-8 glistening white flowers, adorned with elegantly curled petals and exceptionally long stamens.
Irrigate spider lilies when they are in active growth. Water generously throughout the growing season, keeping the soil evenly moist. Spider lilies do require six or more hours of direct or indirect sunlight. This plant is propagated by dividing the bulbs.
The white lily is a symbol of chastity and purity.
