Zircon vs metal Material: Zirconia is made up of tiny white crystals called zirconia crystals which are often referred to as ‘white gold.’ Metal ceramic crowns are made of porcelain fused onto a metal base.
Strength: Although both the types are strong enough to be placed in any area in the mouth, Zirconia Solid has more strength when compared to PFM. Zirconia is recommended for patients who have grinding problems due to its incomparable strength.
Comfort: Both are easy to use and comfortable. Zirconia does not transmit temperature fluctuations to the natural teeth. Thus, it has no risk of hypersensitivity because they are resistant to hot and cold.
Biocompatibility: Metal ceramic crowns may sometimes cause soft tissue irritation but zirconia is highly biocompatible and does not cause allergies.
Aesthetics: Metal ceramic is resistant to stains and discoloration but over time the gum tissue may recede to expose the metal margin. This creates a grayish line along the margin of the teeth and gums. Zirconia has the closest resemblance to natural teeth and there are no aesthetic concerns.
