Contemporary Tamizh literature holds that the system of Siddha medicine originated in Southern India, in the state of Tamil Nadu, as part of the trio Indian medicines - Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani. The Recognized Graduate degree named BSMS (Bachelor of Siddha Medicine and Surgery) come under the Department of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. According to the siddha medicine system, diet and lifestyle play a major role, not only in health but also in curing diseases. The C.R.R.I. shall be completed in the teaching hospital/Siddha hospitals wherever available in the state (Dispensaries and Primary Health Centres) for the period of 12 months after passing the final examination by rotation.
