Anode Acoustics - India.
Anode Acoustics is a boutique audio electronics manufacturer based in New Delhi, India. We are constantly developing new products.
We make high end tube and solid state pre/power amplifiers and headphone amps . We currently build El34 based tube power amplifiers, 300b power amplifiers, ECC82 based tube preamplifiers, tube headphone amplifiers and solid state power amplifiers. Check our website www.anodeacoustics.in for latest information.
Time to pack these 'mini' monoblocks for shipment to the customer.
Solid state power amplifiers with 113w output at 6 ohm load before clipping. This is enough power for most home audio applications.
These sound quite sweet and musical and also pack a punch when there is a need.
Hello everyone!
I just finished building this Anode Acoustics HP amplifier #1 for a customer in India. The customisations are two inputs, choice of film capacitors (as per the customer), teflon and silver plated wiring etc.
This custom made Anode Acoustics preamplifier is ready to be sent out to its owner.
It is built around 6SN7 (NOS Soviet equivalent) tubes. Brief specifications as under:
Gain is 9db. Customisable to 15db and above.
Input impedance is 100k ohms.
Output impedance is well below 1k ohms . Actually it can drive 600 ohms.
Tubes are CCS biased. High voltages are regulated in several steps.
Teflon insulated electrical wiring and silver plated signal wiring.
Two inputs and one output.
This preamplifier can drive (almost) any power stage in front of it.
Thank you for your time!
Hello Folks!
I have been busy building all types of preamplifiers and amplifiers for the last few months. Some projects were new and some were repeat orders. I forget to share most of those new projects because it's always about design, build and testing-testing and then ship out the equipment to the customer. :-)
Today I'm excited to ship out the last of this batch of AA Headphone amplifier #5. We make each amplifier specifically against order and this one is special because it is customised for 40, 80 and 150 ohm output impedance while originally this amp was designed for 16, 32 and 60 ohm load.
The output power remains the same though at 6.5 watts each channel.
Yes this amplifier is a specialised product for hard to drive planar headphones.
Thank you for your attention.
A couple of months ago one of our customers Or Olansky commissioned a custom headphone amplifier to Anode Acoustics. He is already using AA headphone amp No. 1 and 2.
This time the requirement was to build a powerful amplifier which can drive quite lazy planar headphones well. The circuit design and chassis are custom made to the order. We have built only 4 chassis at this time and 3 more such amps will be built in this lot.
This amp will be shipped to him in Israel in a week or so. We are still running post manufacturing tests.
Presenting Anode Acoustics HP amp #5. This amplifier is single ended and uses two types of tubes:
ECC83/12AX7 for input stage
EL34 for output stage
The high voltage power supply is choke regulated and well filtered for good performance. All transformers- including the output transformers are custom designed and wound in-house for this amplifier. We like to wind all our transformers ourselves because this aspect is important for tube amps. Transformer windings are intricate and materials used are high quality.
Output taps for 16, 32, 60 and 300 ohms are available and the user can switch to the right impedance load by rotating the impedance dial.
Now about power output which is the main reason why this amp was conceived, designed and built.... We have 6.5w continuous output from this amp and this number is very conservatively quoted. The amp is capable of 10w+ output but we tried to tame it carefully so as not to overpower certain headphones if used with this amp.
With such performance we think this amplifier can be a good partner to some lazy planar headphones.
Thank you for your attention. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have.
As promised earlier sharing the Anode Acoustics 6SN7 preamp review verbatim from Mr. Indranil Mitra.
-----------------------------------------------
After having owned the AA 12AU7 preamp for around 1.5y, I still had no intention to part with it, given how adjusted I was with its pleasant and pleasurable sound. But I gave into the greed of changing to the newer 6SN7 variant that Nitin Ji offers. The retail version of the 6SN7 costs 50k in base form. But I had paid for the following upgrades:
1) 1 extra SE input, amounting to 2 SE inputs in total.
2) Teflon coated electrical wiring.
3) Silver plated signal wiring.
4) upgraded caps at the output and before it.
5) upgraded pot.
While it has been my experience that all parts used in stock variants of all the AA products to be of very good quality, I still decided to splurge for the upgrades as I was planning to keep this for the long haul. The total came out to be 65k.
The unit is built to the same standards and quality as their #1 PCL82 Headphone Amp and El84 Power amp, as it uses the same chassis. That is to say that the build quality is amazing irrespective of price and is built like a tank. Now, changing the preamp taught me a very valuable lesson that I was not aware of : just HOW MUCH of a difference a preamp can make. I was not ready to hear the level of difference it made. I recently changed my speakers and the difference the preamp made is almost as big as the difference the speaker change made.
The ENTIRE sound changed, the very character of it. If I were to put it crudely- an amp change or a speaker change feels like someone putting on makeup to change their appearance, while a preamp change feels like the entire DNA sequence of that person changed, which results in a completely different person altogether :D. I was now listening to an entirely different sound. The 12AU7 variant has the quintessential high end tube sound i.e., it is thick, bold and vivid with lots of resolution in the midrange and a powerful low end. The highs are notably smooth and pleasant, taking the edge off even the worst and harshest recordings out there, but without losing much detail, if any. It is thick and "musical" but never sounded bloated or gooey. It always struck the right balance. I could put up literally anything and have a very pleasurable experience. I know there is no way to judge absolute neutrality but the 6SN7 feels extremely uncolored when it comes to tone. It takes dynamics and resolution up several notches and presents a background that is so black that its sometimes eerie when listening in the dark. One might feel, if this is so neutral, why not just go for SS Pre? The thing is, it doesn't sound like SS either. There is a subtle coloration to the sound that it imparts, but it really is hard to pinpoint, and it almost feels intangible. Very subjectively speaking- it adds a sense of vibrancy, energy and "glow" to the music while still acting like an electron microscope when it comes to revealing the inner details of the music. If your recording is garbage- it will tell you that most clearly, but it still never gets fatiguing. Even this manages to strike just the right balance.
Is it better than the 12AU7? For me, yes. But one may prefer the 12AU7 over this as they are totally different sounding aimed at two different kinds of listeners. If at the end of the day all you want to do is crash on the couch and have a very "musical" experience and wash yourself with dopamine, then 12AU7 is for you. The 6SN7 cannot do what the 12AU7 does and vice versa. It is also important to note that I haven't heard the 6SN7 in its base form so I cannot comment on that.
Overall, this remains one of the best purchases I have made and such a bargain even at 65k. And I personally feel this is also one of the best pieces that AA makes. I also have a new-found respect for preamps in general, and I honestly feel they are at least as important as an amp in the chain given just how drastic a change they can bring.
Pleased to share a brief review of Anode Acoustics 6SN7 preamplifier from one of our customers Indranil.

Possibly the best hi-fi manufacturer in India, and to top it off it's all handmade. Not only do the products perform very well but they look and feel the same way. I have bought and used their 4 headphone amps, 2 stereo power amps and their tube preamp. Been a customer for a few years and I don't need to look at any other brands anymore. Mr. Nitin Kaushik is not only very knowledgeable but also honest and the prices of AA products reflect that. Very nice service and quality overall.

Introduction
Anode Acoustics is an Indian company that makes amps for speakers and headphones, both SS and tube. Devices are made to order. Once you order an amp you will join the Anode Acoustics family and from that moment onwards the owner Nitin will keep in touch with you until you have received the amp, set it up, and reported your satisfaction. Nitin taught me so much about amplifiers and audio I would have paid the cost of the amp just for the lessons. After receiving the amp Nitin and I opened the amp during a video call and he proceeded to explain the internal components of the amp, a great experience to be sure.
International Shipping and build time.
It took about a week for the amp to be built and tested, then it was sent to Israel via Fedex which took about 5 days to arrive. No issues.
Build Quality
Very Solid, you can pick it up holding the transformers, and it doesn't weigh as much as Little dot's big amps. It doesn't get very hot (except the tubes themselves) even after hours of use, you can place your hand on the transformers' box and it will be a bit warm, nothing more. I'll say it's a good looking amp.
Sound Quality
If you are looking for distorted tubby sound, this might not be the amp for you. This amp is very reveling, very accurate, you could miss it's a tube amp if you test it blind. The sound is 100% clear and detailed with no distortions, very revealing just like if not more so than the Burson.
With Amp #1 the music come alive - it’s not coloring, it’s making it more engaging, more musical more heartfelt, without taking anything away or sacrificing details or clarity.
The LCD-X sounds like an upgraded version with this amp, you’ll be dancing in your seat tapping your lags, it’s wonderful.
The D8000 Pro which I couldn't listen to on the Burson SS amp became a musical experience once I plugged it into the Amp #1, no more does it ask for more volume, now it is satisfied with any volume I wish to listen with.
The Kennerton Rognir also sounds great on it. I should note that planars sound great on this amp, and I do not agree with the notion that Planars are for SS, and Dynamic are for tubes. This tube amp works perfectly with Planars, and it's output transformers makes sure you can pair it with very low impedance headphones.
Since receiving the amp I just can't seem to find any reason to listen to an SS amp, this amp is End Game, I have no itch to scratch anymore, it's wonderful. you might be fooled into thinking this is some cheap amp due to its low price and vintage design, but that would be a mistake, this amp for me would be worth tripled its price.
Conclusion
This is definitely the best Audio gear purchase I have ever made, I will not be replacing it or trying to find something better, it is everything I wanted.
Comparing with Anode Acoustics HPA #2 (SS)
the HPA #2 is a warm, bassy SS amp. it's very easy to listen to, very forgiving, it has a vintage taste and is great for old recordings with low quality as well as high end stuff. It is not transparent (warm, bass boosting), for transparency you should get their HPA #4. it's a very good amp, it sounds better than the Burson in my opinion.
The HPA #1 on the other hand is a clean sounding amp, no color, no extra anything, it just makes the sound more musical and dare I say, adds a majestic quality to it, it add soul to the sound.
As for HPA #2, I say that for its cost (370$) you won't find anything SS near its quality, it's a nice sweet powerful amp, I enjoy it very much, but I mostly prefer the HPA #1, I just can't get enough of it.
Custom made preamplifier for a customer. E80CC special quality NOS tubes are used. These tubes are NOS but they were built with 10000 hours of guaranteed life back in the day. This preamp sounds really special not just because of these excellent tubes but also because the build is optimised for E80CC.
Gain 6db, two switchable inputs and one output. The customer cannot wait to collect it in a few hours from now. :-)
Hello folks! Here is a preamplifier we recently built for a customer. It is a customised unit with three pairs of inputs and two pairs of outputs. Tubes used are vintage Soviet 6SN7 equivalents. Vintage style bakelite k***s were preferred by the customer. As usual we used good quality Central Province teakwood for the chassis base and 2mm thick steel plinth.
Internal wiring is oxygen free silver plated copper insulated in teflon.

Sharing review of Anode Acoustics HP amp #1 by our customer Soumya Das.
----------------------
The #1 Headphone Amplifier - An epitome of Made in India electronics.
Selection Process – I have been using the Anode Acoustics #4 solid state headphone amplifier for some time and thoroughly loved the ultra-linear reproduction. During this time, Nitin and I used to have long discussions regarding headphone audiophonics and we loved sharing our experiences and knowledge with each other. That’s when I learnt the characteristics & caliber of Tube headphone amplifiers and my interest grew for the #1. I decided that I will have to experience this unit on my setup one day. Finally, after a lot of deliberation and a few more months I placed the order for #1. Its important to note that throughout my communication with Nitin, he never proposed/directed me to buy the #1. The discussions were all based on the love for music. The amp was built in the next couple of weeks and delivery took a couple of days more.
Aesthetics – It is indeed a subjective topic hence sharing the reference snaps. When we spoke the #1 used to come with an aluminum base plate, however Nitin informed that he was designing a new model with laser cut powder coated steel base plate. He asked if I was interested to try the new design, thus mine was the very first unit of the currently available version. In my opinion it looks amazing with textured black top and CP teak plinth. The unit is built like a gorgeous tank weighing ~9 kgs.
Test Period – 7+ months
Skipping any technical specs as a detailed information is available on the Anode Acoustics product page.
Musicality – The very first time I hooked up my HD650 to the AA #1 I was literally blown away. Have never experienced anything like that on my HD650s, though I have tried various amplifiers over the years (including ones 2-2.5x the price). I couldn’t imagine the HD650 can sound so musically accurate to that level. Yes, I have tried the HDV 820 and it’s a different game altogether. Being a solid-state amp, it is not comparable to any Tube amps. As we know tubes add certain level of good distortion, #1 does it to an ultimate level. Some of my friends got their favorite headgears and each one had the same awe on their face after auditioning the very first time. Over the past 6 months headphones of various make and model and IEMs including Z1R have been tested on this unit and each time the #1 made me proud. The design is so well executed that over a period of time you might feel that the unit has an IQ of its own and knows which notes to emphasize precisely for your liking. The massive power capability ensures a deep and expanded sound stage without being overtly critical. The #1 amp is a king with a forgiving heart. Better audio quality input along with better DACs & interconnects will definitely elevate the experience exponentially, however average recordings and electronics can also get masked to quite an extent. The triode/pentode mode selection option also increases the dynamic range and usability depending on the genre of the music.
Final thoughts – From my illustration above, my love for the #1 is quite evident. Even after 6 months it doesn’t fail in taking me to oblivion. I have not yet found another headphone amplifier even close to this at this price point and do not expect to find one soon.

Here is my impression of the #2. A beautifully hand-crafted solid-state amp designed and assembled by Mr. Nitin Kaushik from Anode Acoustics - India.
One word review: Euphonic
I had the pleasure of auditioning it at Nitin Ji's home along with the #1 (SET Tube amp) but Nitin ji very graciously loaned me the #2 to listen and form an opinion, and in hindsight, I wish I hadn't taken him up on this.
With my limited exposure to high-end gear as the caveat, I can say that this is the best SS amp I've heard and it is greater than the sum of its parts.
The build is premium, to say the least. It has an RCA input and has a 6.3mm headphone out. There are no gain switches.
This amp just does one thing and does it damn well.
It's just pure Class A amplification (the exact output wattage isn't specified). I could not turn the volume k**b more than 30% for both of my demanding headphones (Hifiman Sundara and Sennheiser HD650).
I used it almost exclusively with my iFi Zen DAC with those smooth-sounding Burr-Brown chips. I used to love my stack with the iFi Zen DAC and Zen can but the #2 has put a wedge in that love affair.
I had almost two weeks to do A/B and after listening to hundreds of my favourite tracks I can safely conclude that this amp is really worth every penny.
The guitar strums and the vocals have a very sweet characteristic to them. It takes the edge out and didn't sound harsh at all for the entirety of my library, as opposed to the occasional glare with the Zen can on the Sundara. This paired well with both my HPs and with all my IEMs (Shuoer S12, Tanchjim Hana 2021, and Fiio FD3 Pro).
Moreover, it was heard by folks who had heard the first iteration of the #2 and said that this is a definite upgrade.
This amp is so musical, it almost has a tube-ish sound to it, devoid of the typical SS edge that sometimes makes certain vocal and cymbal hits sound sibilant, at least for my liking.
It takes a standard PC power cable, so no need to worry about linear power supplies/SMPS (it has built linear power supply components). I have faced this with the iFi Zen can that only works well with the supplied iFi Power adaptor.
One thing to keep in mind is the DAC pairing with this amp. I found that it is musical (so not 100% transparent like a clinical Topping NFCA design) but is still dependent on the DAC's output. For example, it paired really well with my Zendac as opposed to the ESS DACs in my Lotoo Paw S1 and LG G7. Not to say it sounded bad with them but it sounded way better and 'fuller' with the Zen DAC.
If I didn't have plans to get the #1 SET amp from Nitin ji, I'd have got this. I still may do it.
Sharing images of some of the products we make. We build tube preamplifiers, power amplifiers like 300b, EL34, Solid state (3 types), 4 types of headphone amplifiers- tube and solid state. Phono preamplifiers and microphone tube preamplifiers for professional recording studios.

A splendid customer review of our No.1 Tube Headphone Amplifier from Indranil Mitra:
Introduction
Anode Acoustics is a boutique manufacturer of high end audio products in India. Their products are handcrafted from scratch in India with parts from India as well (all but a few of the components which are not manufactured in India anymore).
One of the main goals of the brand is to provide high performance components at honest prices and thus providing a huge bang for the buck. At the time of writing this, they sell direct only, thus keeping the cost as low as possible.
I have bought and owned all of their headphone amplifiers (No.1, No.2, No.3, No.4) and their 12AU7 based stereo preamplifier and I can safely say that when it comes to raw performance their stuff is on a league of their own, punching way above their price class, giving most retail components costing substantially more a run for their money.
Build Quality
No.1 is built like a museum piece, it is extremely rugged. It is also big and heavy but that is because it needs to be so. The unit weighs about 9kg and prospective buyers need to have sufficient space for this big amp.
As with all things such heavy, there is a reassuring feeling of ruggedness and quality. The enclosure is made from Teak wood, which is sourced in India. The result is absolutely gorgeous. There is something about tubes and wooden enclosure. Like warmth from a fire in a cold day. All in all, it is one of the best built objects I have come across.
Such solid build quality is rarely seen in retail components.
Features
This is an output transformer coupled tube amplifier and not an OTL. This means that the amp is compatible with dynamics and planars alike, and the impedance matching is done via 40 ohm, 150 ohm, 300 ohm, 600 ohm taps. There are 2 modes : Pentode and Triode. In pentode mode, the tubes are operated in pentode mode and full power of 1W is supplied while in Triode mode, 200mW is supplied. The output transformer is entirely made in house. The output transformer enclosure is cold to the touch even after 2+ hours of continuous usage. If you know anything about output transformers, you will also be surprised to find one this affordable (~1000 USD). But the performance speaks for itself.
The tubes supplied are either PCL82/ECL82 and the buyer can select either one. I opted for the PCL82 tubes that are NOS BEL tubes (made in India) with long plates. The glass is thick and the tubes themselves feel quite premium, which is indicative of its authenticity. It is not one of those cheap Chinese junk vacuum tubes. I am told that the tubes are not pushed hard at all, but used judiciously to greatly prolong the lifespan of the tubes. Even after around 300+ hours of usage, there is barely any visible wear on the tubes.
When using a headphone, the correct impedance or the impedance closest to that of the headphone must be used. But it is to be noted that that one shouldn't pair loads much lower than 40 ohm or higher than 600 ohms. And thus compatibility with headphones is a breeze no matter what. In my one year of rigorous usage, I have paired a variety of headphones including multiple planars that are really hard to drive, bordering on insanely hard to drive and yet the amp handles them like a boss. Although strictly prohibited by the brand, I have used as low as 18 ohm planar earphones like the Tin P1 Plus (which are really hard to drive) and had no issues. On the opposite end of the spectrum I have used the Beyerdynamic T1 Gen 2 whose nominal impedance is 600 ohms but shoots up to 900 ohms as well and as expected, no issues whatsoever. I have paired vintage Yamaha Orthodynamics like the HP1 and its brothers (150 ohm, 92-94dB/mW) and the amplifier drove them very nicely. And mind you, these orthodynamics ideally need obscene amounts of power to shine properly. I have compared the Yamaha HP1 being driven off speaker amp and No.1 and I was shocked at how nicely it was being driven : deep chest thumping bass, slamming hard dynamics and energy.
So one can pair all headphones out there provided it is between 40-600ohms, (maybe not the outliers like Susvara, HE6 etc) and in my experience all of them being driven to perfection . The thing that really bugs me is the LED light, it is unacceptably bright and I have it taped up. Also, it's a bummer that the metal plate has no writing printed on it for the controls. It is not a big deal but it would surely go a long way if the controls for the triode mode, pentode mode and impedance values were printed.
But I am guessing it was a conscious decision to keep the costs down.
Sound Quality
In my thorough usage, I have used a variety of headphones starting from the HD540 Reference 600 ohm, Beyerdynamic T1 Gen 2 600 ohm, AKG K240 Sextett, the all time classics HD600,HD650 to planars like the Yamaha orthodynamics and planar earphones. The amp has a very subtle yet total coloration in the sound. In pentode mode, the sound is more forward and engaging, details are pushed forward more. In triode mode, the sound is pushed back a little, adding more space to the sound. Midrange takes a step back in Triode mode. This mode is highly recommended for more refined and quieter genres. I used the pentode mode almost exclusively.
The coloration being a slight touch of wetness. It has this uncanny combination of being totally uncolored in tonality and timbre but having an all encompassing subtle wetness in its presentation. Present are the hallmark characteristics of a quality tube amp namely excellent air and treble extension with abundant shimmer and sparkle. This is NOT a warm amp, its treble is beautifully extended.
When using planar headphones I was presented with deep bass that slammed so hard, so clean. Bass extension is phenomenal. So are the dynamics - the Tin P1 Plus which scales substantially provided dynamics that are almost overwhelming. The imaging is spacious and wide, making the "narrow" sounding 600,650 sound wide and "out of the head". All the while keeping the tonality pristine and helping the headphone speak for itself with its own characteristics.
The amp is truly neutral when it comes to tonality. The level of transparency that this amp provides, beggar's belief. Its transparency surpasses all of the solid state amps I have heard to this day. It is a microscope, it makes the listener look into the music to such great levels that it might even be too transparent to some, specially those who are misguided by the wrong notion that tube amps are supposed to be "warm, tubby, mushy"? Said who? There is no such rule.
In some ways this amp made me open my eyes to what a tube amp can sound like. This means that if your headphone is poo-poo or has some glaring faults in tuning, you will surely hear it. That is why dac matching to this amp is of paramount importance. I have paired multiple dacs throughout my usage to get vastly different flavors of sound. Some provide a lush and forgiving tone while some make the chain uber resolving and transparent.
You must find the right companion dac for your headphones. My personal recommendation would be to add a neutral sounding dac to this amp.
Conclusion
It is truly an amplifier one can happily retire with. Even after 1 year of thorough usage I am still as glad as I was the first time when I heard it and I shall continue to do so. Money well spent.
A short review of Anode Acoustics HP amp No. 4 from a new customer Manish Raj.
Hello folks
I recently acquired the Headphone amp #4 (the updated version) from Anode Acoustics. It's a solid state amp having a transformer based linear power supply so it provides very clean power. It's build quality is robust and has a relatively small footprint.
Setup: Dx160 (as transport) > mimby> hp amp #4 (updated) > HD6XX
Initial Impressions
1.This amp is insanely powerful. I never had to go over 9 o'clock on the vol wheel.
2.Presence of bass on an open back headphone. On some tracks I felt the low end rumbles which I never expected to feel in 6xx.
3.The soundstage is not so wide, i wont say it's narrow. On the other hand it is appreciably tall.
This is a neutral sounding amp while 6xx is a warm sounding. This results is exceptional synergy between the two. The vocals are full-bodied, bass is excellent as already mentioned and the top end is well extended, however sometimes I felt there could be bit more of it, but that's how 6xx is. Seperation and imaging are great too.
Another great thing about the amp is that it does not need a seperate wallwart to power up. Any IEC power cable will do. The amp is well designed resulting in a darker background when listening. Moreover it gets just a tad warm during continuous use.
Mr Nitin Kaushik (from Anode Acoustics) has been extremely helpful from the very beginning of our discussions to first-time powering up this beast. Would definitely recommend anyone searching for a solid state amp to contact him.
