A Pap smear or a smear test is a routine cervical screening test. It isn’t a cancer test but a preventive one . 👩🏻‍⚕️during the appointment a small sample of cells is taken from the cervix. 👩🏻‍⚕️It is checked for certain types of human papilloma virus that is HPV that can cause changes to the cervical cells. 👩🏻‍⚕️ The sample is checked for any abnormal cells or HPV and in case found a suitable treatment plan will be decided to prevent disease from potentially resulting in cervical cancer. 👩🏻‍⚕️If you are aged between 25 to 45 years you are adviced to get your screening done once in every three years. 👩🏻‍⚕️ if you are aged between 50 to 64 years you are advised to get your screening done once in every 5 years. 👩🏻‍⚕️ The screening interval could change based on your individual risks and test results. ❤️ cervical cancer is a treatable condition if detected in its earlier stages. Unfortunately, in its earliest stages one may not experience any alarming signs or symptoms . A routine cervical screening is the best way to pick up on this at the earliest. ❤️It is a relatively short procedure that is usually not painful at all but it may cause some discomfort and remember you are in control and can stop the doctor at any point. ❤️ so please don’t FEAR THE SMEAR and encourage your family and friends to get screened!!
