A digraph is when two letters combine to make a single sound.

At the basic level, I teach the long vowel sound ‘e’ using the digraph ‘ee,’ where two letters (‘e’ and ‘e’) work together to create one sound.

Save it! When we explore word families, we learn how certain letters or sounds repeat in words. This makes it easier to read new words because we can use what we know about one word to help us figure out others. So, by exploring the ‘ice’ word family, we’re not just learning words like ‘ice,’ ‘slice,’ and ‘nice,’ but we’re also becoming better readers!

Did you know that letter c makes soft sound /s/ when followed by e,i or y.

If your child knows the sound /k/ and can read and write well, you can teach this spelling rule. Save this list right away and make your child read these words.
