5 months into this horrific genocide against Palestinians, I don’t have words left. What we’ve collectively witnessed over these months: the carnage, the injustice, the lies, the excuses, beggars belief. .kamp
What use is preserving a memory if it doesn’t inform our present and our future? We don’t only remember to honour the victims, we remember to ensure humanity does better. And right now, we’re really not doing better.
Happening right now: the ICJ is giving their ruling on the provisional measures of the South African case against Israel’s genocide. Follow ‘s live blog online for up to the minute updates from the judge. END THE GENOCIDE. CEASEFIRE NOW. FREE PALESTINE, from the river to the sea.
“More journalists have been killed in the first 10 weeks of the Israel-Gaza war than have ever been killed in a single country over an entire year” . is evacuating Gaza. His tireless, courageous and patient reporting has been the eyes and ears of the world in Gaza. I think we owe him a great deal for the sacrifices he’s made to keep us informed. The conflict continues to take a huge toll on journalism in Palestine, through the killing of journalists, arrests of journalists and through the sheer violence and privation that has become the norm, forcing journalists to evacuate. And still, Israel has not let a single independent journalist in to Gaza since 7th Oct.
One of the most shocking things I heard in the South Africa case to the ICJ - and there were many shocking things - is that 4 out of every 5 people in the world today facing famine. On 3 January 2024, Arif Husain, the chief economist at the World Food Programme, stated 80 percent of all people in the world experiencing famine or catastrophic hunger were in the Gaza Strip, stating, “In my life, I’ve never seen anything like this in terms of severity”. On 16 January, UNOCHA reported 378,000 people in Gaza were in IPC Phase 5, or catastrophic levels of hunger. It reported all 2.2 million people in the Gaza Strip were facing acute food insecurity – the highest proportion of a population experiencing starvation in recorded history. The Famine Review Committee (FRC) which compiled the Gaza data on famine in terms of the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) on December 1, 2023, forecast that the total population will be at Phase 3 by 7 February and that 25% or 500,000 Gazans will reach Phase 5. On 18 January, the deputy executive director of UNICEF took a tour of the Gaza Strip, stating he had witnessed “some of the most horrific conditions I have ever seen” and that “thousands of children are malnourished and sick.” On 16 January, officials reported newborn babies with undernourished mothers were dying within days, and children weakened by starvation were dying from hypothermia. Colonel Moshe Tetro, who heads the Israeli unit overseeing deliveries of humanitarian aid, stated that there was no food shortage in Gaza and that existing reserves are sufficient. Another Israeli official stated, “Don’t forget that this is an Arab, Gazan population whose DNA is to hoard, certainly when it comes to food.” Read on Wikipedia under: Gaza Strip famine
There is only one solution: a political solution which provides Palestinians with dignity, independence, freedom and the right to self determination. (And I hope a right to return: do you know many older Palestinians still carry the keys to the houses they were ethnically cleansed from?) The only question is how many more Palestinians does the world allow Israel to butcher, how much more destruction and devastation do we allow Israel to wrought before we, inevitably, one day, arrive at a political solution? Stop the genocide. End the occupation. Free Palestine ✊🇵🇸❤️
Gaza’s last fully functioning hospital is under attack by Israel. We are all still waiting for convincing “proof” from Israel about Hamas’ command and control center under Al Shifa hospital which was destroyed under that pretext last month. If there was ever a doubt that Israel is deliberately targeting and destroying Gaza’s healthcare system - part of a wider strategy of making life in Gaza unliveable - that doubt is long gone. Stop the genocide. End the occupation. Free Palestine. ✊🇵🇸❤️
All of you who remain silent: do you still call this proportionate?
This is a war crime. Free Palestine. End the genocide. End the occupation.
6. For 2.2 million people. Under bombardment. Being starved. 6. Can you imagine?
Justice and freedom for Palestine. End the genocide. End the occupation. ✊🇵🇸❤️
Tomorrow I fervently, deeply, desperately hope that some measure of justice will finally be given to Palestinians. Reading history, it is one sad story after the next of international institutions, predominantly the League of Nations and the UN, under the tyranny of the powers of the time (Britain then the US), failing the indigenous people of historic Palestine, one security council resolution after the next. Despite all attempts at writing Palestinians out of history, they are still there, resisting a long, illegal occupation and brutal suppression. If nothing else, this fierce, patient, persistent resistance is something that gives hope. Free Palestine ✊🇵🇸❤️
Well folks, I’d love to start the new year off with a “Happy New Year 🥳” and a pretty post about some beautiful textiles which our artisans are diligently working away on in some small village in rural India (which they are!). But the genocide in Palestine is still ramping up - I know, right? Everyday Israel undertakes new horrors we could never have imagined - and now is not the time to get distracted from this. Now is the time to keep piling pressure on a state which is utterly and completely out of control, acting outside of every international and humanitarian law of war, and for us to keep fighting for a ceasefire and a free Palestine. This post I’m sharing here shocked me today and I’m sharing in case there is anyone left with any doubt at all that this is a deliberate strategy of ethnic cleansing - straight from the horse’s mouth. Started in 1947/48 when 750,000 Palestinians were cleansed from their ancestral homes for the formation of a Jewish majority state (the explicit goal of Zionism, and the only way to achieve a Jewish majority in this predominantly Arab region was to kill and force out enough Arabs) , this process has been an on-off continual strategy by Israel. We see this strategy in the starkest light since Oct 7, under the guise of “defence”. I think few of us are stupid enough to think this violence has anything to do with defence anymore. This is our era’s last great fight against the aggression and violence of settler colonialism. When all other colony’s were starting to break down last century, this European and later US backed colonislisation project was just getting started. The thing which is truly remarkable about this situation is that despite the greatest odds stacked against them, the Palestinians have kept alive their legitimate and legal resistance all these decades. It’s time their occupation comes to an end. ✊🇵🇸❤️
The slaughter is increasing, there is no let up in Gaza. 🇵🇸 Beautiful artwork by
I’ve got covid - first timer! - and I’ve had to cancel all the Christmas family time I had planned in Czech and Southern Germany with my parents and the parents of my partner. But, as I get a little energy back, it means time to read / re-read some old and new books and watch some documentaries. I watched Israelism yesterday and would strongly recommend it (usd5 on kinema.com until Jan) and on the high recommendation of will watch Gaza Fights for Freedom (find on YouTube). Any recommendations you can share??

Say it, it’s easy: CEASEFIRE NOW! FREE PALESTINE!! ❤️🇵🇸
Cease fu***ng fire. It’s monstrous, it’s barbaric, it’s inhumane. 🇵🇸
Many events in recent history have shown the moral bankruptcy of the West, but I’m not sure any event has shown it so vividly or clearly as what is happening today in Gaza. Our politicians are not representing the sentiment of the public. They are failing us and failing humanity. We must demand change in the streets and by the ballot. Free Palestine.
F*** Biden and his blood thirsty, war mongering, genocidal government. UK abstains, US vetoes.
Hell has been unleashed in Gaza by an ultra right wing Israeli government upon an occupied, besieged civilian population. If you’re not ok with this, keep screaming, raging, marching and boycotting for a ceasefire. The UN and aid agencies say nowhere in Gaza is safe any more. According to the UN, 1.87 million people, more than 80% of Gaza’s population, have left their homes. Many have had to flee shelter several times in the path of the Israeli advance. Artwork
The world owes a great debt to and his few, fellow Palestinian journalists - especially the over 63 who have been targeted and murdered by Israel. With foreign journalists blocked by Israel and Egypt from entering Gaza - a contravention of international humanitarian law by Israel, who claims journalists cannot be guaranteed safety, but who, under international humanitarian law, is legally obliged to ensure their protection (as civilians) - resulting in the victims of this appalling attack on Gaza also being obliged to document every horrific aspect of it to ensure the world sees what is happening. What a burden to bear, on top of the daily horrors of the brutality. With their reporting, the atrocities being committed by Israel are almost too horrific to comprehend. But imagine if we were without them, blind to this genocide?

George Orwell’s 1984 is one of the most memorable, striking novels I’ve read. The last weeks, seeing the false narratives, the denial of reality, the blatant propaganda, the endless untruths accepted and propagated by Western leaders and media, though nothing new, has been on such an immense scale and in the face of such wilful brutality and inhumanity that it’s felt to me to straight out of the pages of 1984.
CEASEFIRE NOW
Direct from the stitching room: we’ve added the cuuuuutest little pocket to our new jamdani dresses. If you look at traditional Indian kameez and other tunic and robe designs, you’ll often find tiny, little pockets hidden in seams. It’s such a charming detail, and very practical too! Just big enough for your debit card, or the few Ruppees you need to buy a chai on the roadside. I wonder what the Mughals put in their pockets….?
Today the UN has called for a move back towards a two state solution. I recently learned that about 10% of the Israeli population are illegal settlers - 500,000 in West Bank and 200,000 in East Jerusalem. I think a two state solution is the only feasible answer to the current state of affairs, but it’s hard to imagine how any Israeli government, let alone this ultra right wing, pro settler administration, will make it happen. It has to be the international community - our governments - who apply the pressure to make this happen. And it’s our job to keep applying pressure to our governments to make sure they stand up to the task.
“The UN has called for the international community to move towards a two-state solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, saying Jerusalem should serve as the capital of both states.
“It is long past time to move in a determined, irreversible way towards a two-state solution, on the basis of UN resolutions and international law,” said Tatiana Valovaya, director general of the UN office in Geneva, delivering a speech authored by the UN secretary general, António Guterres.
Reuters reports she added this would mean “Israel and Palestine living side-by-side in peace and security with Jerusalem as the capital of both states”.
