Arpita Akhanda
Born into a family with the traumatic memory of displacement and forced migration during the Partition of 1947, Arpita Akhanda’s works deal with the relationship between her family’s present and past trauma through exploring inter-generational memories/knowledge systems, inherited family archives, and the search for a home. She refers to her body as a "memory collector" or post-memorial site of the past which is mediated not by recall but by recreation, imaginative investment, and projection. Through her works she looks at the body as a mode of preservation which also transmits colonial and postcolonial recollections over generations. She works across mediums that include paper weaving, photography, performance, installations, drawings, and video pieces. Her explorations with photo performance/performance, archival photographs and maps, and borrowed/shared memories, construct the relationship between time and place, movement and settlement, and self and the geo-body.
She explores personal histories and the manner in which they get diluted when placed next to the more institutional forms of narrative. The struggle to find a voice, a paragraph, or any recognition has driven to look at her practice as a platform to bring personal and institutional memory together, on the same footing, and to understand the methods of history/memory-making.

Akshata Mokashi
Akshata Mokashi weaves painted imaginations into tapestries. As a weaver, her practice is immersed in the timeless space between tradition and innovation. She refers to her craft as being rooted in ancient techniques while she continues to explore new avenues of expression, pushing the boundaries of what can be achieved with fibre. Initially drawn to vibrant yarns, Mokashi began to experiment with dyeing to achieve colours that aligned with the hues of her painted landscapes. The artist refers to this journey as a process that evolved led to an experiential journey of self-discovery through the act of creation.

Jayati Kaushik
Driven by a desire to capture the mundane yet unique experiences of daily life, she turns to translate emotion and the interconnectedness of elements that exist in nature to assist the movement of time and memory. Kaushik’s works explore the duality of existence to weave together moments of contentment and memories of presence. For the artist, the intricate details which are a symphony of pauses, prompts, and gestures, both deliberate and unintentional are necessary to establish a storytelling in her prints. They are carriers of hidden truths waiting to be unveiled by the viewer. These truths exist as elements of self-discovery, realisation and reflection.

Sukanya Ghosh
Sukanya Ghosh works with photographs, family archives and found images in a manner that moves through an investigative arc. The concerns and ideas of memory, time and identity in her practice are in tandem with an exploration of material and technique, leading to further propositions and counter narratives. The works in the exhibition explore Ghosh’s use of the timelessness of unknown locations and persons to reimagine and rephrase familial histories. In effect, she constructs narratives and stories by combining, collaging and in some cases erasing the found image. By creating this kind of mixage, she creates something that is recognizable yet not, that is familiar yet strange. Her interventions and interpolations through animation, collage or paint takes on the challenge of creating fictive histories and imagined geographies.

Mokashi weaves on a frame loom, which allows her to have a free-flowing, organic approach to the final outcome which evolves during the process itself. Layers of warp intertwine with weft based on intuition. Mokashi turns to her canvases as inspirational images for her tapestries to borrow imagery from them. This intersection of medium is driven by her references to nature. She refers to elements such as earth and water which balance harmoniously to coexist in an interconnectedness of being. Through this drive for a unity in the natural world, Mokashi attempts to balance in human experience with material objects that otherwise stand disconnected in this rhythm.

Imaging, a visual representation of a material form may sometimes be looked at as a diagnostic outcome for further investigation. Extending this to a way of looking at images as arrival and departure points, the image at large is what one arrives at as a translation through language and memory. The photograph and the moving image extend into narratives of fiction, storytelling, weaving, embroidery and adopt derivative forms in various mediums through the works of the artists in this exhibition.

This series of work, titled "Wanderlust Weaved," is an exploration of the symbiotic relationship between civilizations, trading paths, and the natural world, This particular series of artwork utilizes symbolic imagery to express the profound importance of trade routes in linking civilizations. Drawing inspiration from nature, I've employed metaphors that capture the essence of growth, exchange, and the ever-flowing currents of time. The pieces place a strong emphasis on the multicultural dimensions of ancient trade routes, weaving together various artistic styles, motifs, and a rich array of colors reflective of the distinct regions along these historical paths.
