Here we are for another milestone - all 19 toroidal field coils are now at ITER - 18 to go into the machine and one spare.

This last one, manufactured in Europe, arrived at ITER last Friday in the early morning hours.

The toroidal field coils will confine plasma particles in the future fusion machine.

Incredible Milestone Achieved

India shines brighter on the global stage as the largest indigenous 700 MWe Kakrapar Atomic Power Project Unit-3 (KAPP-3) in Gujarat starts operating at full capacity!

KAPP-3 is the frontrunner in a series of 16 indigenous 700 MWe Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors that are at various stages of implementation. Its twin unit, KAPP-4, is in the advanced stage of commissioning.

These reactors employ advanced safety features comparable to the best in the world. With the design, construction, commissioning, and operation of the reactor by Indian engineers and scientists and the supply of equipment and ex*****on of works by Indian industry, KAPP-3 is a shining example of .

This groundbreaking feat not only augments India’s energy infrastructure but also reaffirms our commitment to a greener and more sustainable future. KAPP-3 is a step towards tripling the nuclear power capacity from the current 7,480 MWe to over 22,480 MWe by 2031-32.

Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited - NPCIL currently operates 23 reactors that have cumulatively generated over 800 billion units of clean electricity, saving 700 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions. Nuclear power stands as a clean, green and safe source of round-the-clock electricity and is an integral part of India’s global commitment to achieving netzero by 2070.

75 years ago, on this day in 1948, the Atomic Energy Commission ( ) was set up by the Government of India under the erstwhile Department of Scientific Research and placed under the direct charge of the Prime Minister.

Dr. Homi Jehangir Bhabha was appointed as the Chairman of the Commission, with Dr. K. S. Krishnan as a Member and Dr. Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar as a Member and Secretary of AEC.

Over these 75 years, the Commission has been the policy-making body for DAE and it also oversees the functioning of the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board , an independent regulatory body for all nuclear-related activities in the country.

The activities of the Commission have continued to grow, and the organisations under its charge have made valuable contributions to nation-building in the fields of energy security, health care, food and agriculture, industry, and the environment.
