KTHIRD ORDER NEURON: Cell bodies lie within VPL of
thalamus; terminate in ipsilaterla primary somatosensory
KRECEPTOR: Nociceptor (free nerve endings) - activated
through noxious stimuli
Signals from nociceptors are transmitted to dorsal
horn of spinal cord via A delta fibers (low threshold
for firing & fast conduction speed also localize pain)
terminate in spinal cord and release neurotransmitter -
glutamate
+ Polygonal nociceptors transmit signals into dorsal horn
through C fibers (high threshold & slow conduction speed
also its dull, deep and throbbing in nature) - terminate
