42 lessons life taught me.

It is something we should all read at least once a week!

"To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 42 lessons life taught me. It is the most requested column I've ever written. My odometer rolled over to 90 in August, so here is the column once more:

1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.
2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.
3. Life is too short – enjoy it..
4. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and family will.
5. Pay off your credit cards every month.
6. You don't have to win every argument. Stay true to yourself.
7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.
8. Save for retirement starting with your first pay check.
9. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.
10. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.
11. It's OK to let your children see you cry.
12. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
13. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it...
14 Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.
15. Get rid of anything that isn't useful. Clutter weighs you down in many ways.
16. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.
17. It's never too late to be happy. But it’s all up to you and no one else.
18. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer.
19. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special.
20. Over prepare, then go with the flow.
21. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple.
22. No one is in charge of your happiness but you.
23. Frame every so-called disaster with these words 'In five years, will this matter?'
24. Always choose life.
25. Forgive but don’t forget.
26. What other people think of you is none of your business.
27. Time heals almost everything. Give time.
28. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
29. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does..
30. Believe in miracles.
31. Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.
32. Growing old beats the alternative -- dying young.
33. Your children get only one childhood.
34. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.
35. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere. (I love this one)
36. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back.
37. Envy is a waste of time. Accept what you already have not what you need.
38. The best is yet to come...
39. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.
40. Yield.
41. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift."

The term “Gut health” describes the function and balance of bacteria of the many parts of the gastrointestinal tract. Ideally, organs such as the esophagus, stomach and intestines all work together to allow us to eat and digest food without discomfort. But that's not the case for many people…💓

🖤Why should we pay attention to our gut health?

All food is ultimately broken down in the gut to a simple form that can enter the bloodstream and be delivered as nutrients throughout our bodies. This is only possible with a healthy digestive system. A healthy gut contains healthy bacteria and immune cells that ward off infectious agents like bacteria, viruses and fungi. A healthy gut also communicates with the brain through nerves and hormones, which helps maintain general health and well-being.

🖤What are the signs of gut health problems?

Everyone at some point experiences digestive problems such as abdominal pain, bloating, loose stools, constipation, heartburn, nausea or vomiting. When symptoms persist, it may be a sign of an underlying problem that needs medical attention.

🖤What else should we know about gut health?

👉Food choices are common causes of heartburn, bloating and constipation. If you experience these symptoms, start using a food diary to see if there are links between your symptoms and certain foods. Avoid fried foods and consume alcohol and caffeine in moderation, as they are not healthy in the long run. If you keep having gastrointestinal problems despite making wise food choices, consult your doctor.

👉Adequate sleep is essential for gut health. It is not uncommon for people with disturbed sleep to suffer from nausea, bloating, constipation and other digestive concerns.

👉Regular exercise is known to reduce stress levels and help maintain a healthy weight, which can have positive effects on gut health.

It's rightly said, "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail?"

Chopping, marination, precooking, freezing, making batters and portions... There's a whole lot that you can do to make your life smooth sailing during the program. Trust me, it's easy, AS LONG AS YOU PREP! It's the 🔑 to success on the program.

If preparation and planning is not done, you end up making poor choices or end up compromising on your taste buds. Food Prep is an absolute must if you would like to enjoy your meals and the journey throughout.👌

Here are some tips for meal prepping:

1. Make sure you invest in good quality re-useable containers

2. Plan out your meals in advance, the great thing about our gut cleanse is we eat real food and the meal plans and recipes are all available when you join!

3. As much as possible, buy fresh produce on a weekly basis, sort, clean the veggies and put them ziplocks so they're ready to use.

4. Meal prep on Sunday for Monday to Wednesday and again on Wednesday for Thursday to Sunday, or if you lack time during the week do it all on Sunday and freeze your meals for later in the week. IT IS POSSIBLE, IT IS DOABLE!

protein is an important nutrient for weight loss. Getting enough protein may support healthy metabolism and reduce your appetite. It may also help you lose body fat without losing muscle. For weight management it is very important to reduce our calorie intake but that does not meant that we need to reduce our quantity of food, All it need to readjust your portion where you need to increase amount of protein and decrease the amount of carbohydrates.

Protein Reduces Appetite and Makes You Eat Fewer Calories
In other words, you end up eating fewer calories without having to count calories or consciously control portions.
Protein is extremely important in building muscle because the amino acids (the building blocks of protein) help repair and maintain muscle tissue. After a workout, protein helps you recover from workouts because muscles slightly tear during exercise.
A person can meet their daily protein needs by eating animal and plant-based protein sources.
Animal-based protein sources include:
• lean meats (beef, pork, or lamb)

Life rules to live by - after the program

So you have done a round or few of the program and now you think… what do I do??!!

✅ Remember the 80/20 rule.

Your body is now in love with the clean foods you feed it, so making healthier choices should be somewhat easier than they were in the past.

So when going out after the program, YES you can have those foods we avoided while on program…. 20% of the time.
What does that look like??? In my head …. That looks like a weekend treat.

Eat clean and Whole Foods most of the time (80%) and enjoy the sometimes foods/drinks once a week… this will keep your body in the shape and condition you worked so hard to get it too.
