Electric vehicles (as they are manufactured now) are not environmentally "friendly." They are dependent on electric power grids which are already being pushed to their limits. Not every problem can be solved easily with technology alone.

We need less mining and more recycling of materials. Hydrogen-powered engines or salt-based batteries could provide "cleaner" solutions, but will need further development. Less commuting and more trains would be helpful.

Most promising is the idea of making our economies more circular, regenerative and localized. If a majority of our food and resources were grown, refurbished or recycled locally there would be much less need to transport goods and products half way around the planet.

Global economics benefits large multinational corporations, making the rich richer and poor poorer. Localized economics is about producing more of what we need locally, increasing the quality of our lives and consuming less. This benefits communities and small businesses. It also benefits other species and Mother Nature.

Tata Group's Tata Technologies will form a joint venture with BMW, a German luxury car maker, to establish an automotive software and IT development hub in Pune, Bengaluru, and Chennai.

The primary development and operations activities will be centred in Bengaluru and Pune, while Chennai will focus on business IT solutions.

Initially, Tata Technologies will incorporate the company as a wholly-owned subsidiary.

Once both parties meet the closing conditions, including merger-control approval, BMW will invest in the company, acquiring a 50% stake in the post-investment equity-share capital of the entity.

The joint venture will deliver automotive software, Software-defined Vehicle (SDV) solutions for BMW Group's premium vehicles, and digital transformation solutions for its business IT.

It will start operations with 100 innovators and "plans to expand rapidly to a four-digit number in the coming years."

India celebrated a significant milestone in its space exploration endeavors with the successful landing of its ambitious project, the reusable launch vehicle (RLV) nicknamed "Pushpak" or "RLV LEX-02." The winged rocket, comparable in size to an SUV, touched down on a runway in Karnataka after a meticulously planned test flight.

Praising the mission's precision, S. Somanath, Chairman of ISRO, lauded the "excellent and precise" outcomes achieved by the space agency, marking yet another success for India's space program. In this latest achievement, the "Pushpak" was dropped from an Air Force helicopter in a real-world simulation to practice returning from space orbit.

Demonstrating remarkable autonomy, the vehicle approached the runway and made necessary adjustments before landing accurately using its brake parachute, landing gear brakes, and nose wheel steering system. This successful test, marking Pushpak's third flight, signifies India's steady progress towards making space launches more affordable and sustainable.

With each accomplishment, India moves closer to its goal of revolutionizing space activities, potentially enabling tasks like satellite refueling and satellite retrieval and repair, which could address issues such as space debris.
