The movie “Maidaan” might become a sleeper hit as & when word of mouth spreads. This is written & directed by Amit R Sharma who is known for “Badhaai Ho”. The movie is based on the true story of a football coach who gave his last breaths too. The screenplays written by Saiwyn Quadras (known for the movie Mary Kom), Aman Rai, Atul Shahi & Amit Sharma take you to old corridors that are appealing. Dialogues that don't alter the sensitive course are written by Ritesh Shah (known for the movie Pink) & Siddhant Mago. The duo believes in the fact “Say if need be”. The story writers Saiwyn Quadras, Akash Chawla, & Arunava J Sengupta did a superb job of choosing what was necessary. The editors Dev R Jadhav & Shahnawaz Mosani kept the authenticity, rhythm & technicality alive. Gajrao Rao as a sports journo is stupendous! Ajay Devgn as Captain Karim has stirred the audience. He is a remarkable actor who takes less digital space & yet scores 10 on 10 all the time! Priyamani comes across as an ideal wife who doesn't need dialogue or a dramatic scene to make a point. A brilliant movie that was long due. This does justice to Captain Karim’s hardships. On the scale of truth, this wins. It shows that after the Britishers, Bengalis studied Shakespeare, practised arts, played football & politically dominated others with their knowledge & adaptability. Everyone who is a non-Bengali but lived in & around will vouch for Captain Karim’s struggles. No one would have imagined that the country that still celebrates the victory of the “1983 Cricket World Cup” could easily skip that India earned 2 gold medals in the 1951 & 1962 Asian Games. In addition, India's Football Team became Asia’s first-ever football team to qualify for the Semi-Finals of the 1956 Summer Olympics. It was also given the title “Brazil of Asia”. In the end, BOAE says “To all Football fanatics who wonder if we were ever close to winning the cup, this one is for you”. All in all, a movie that comes as a motivator when we are still far from qualifying for FIFA. It silently delivers a social message .

The movie “Chamkila” was watched on Netflix. This is written (along with Sajid Ali), directed & produced (along with Mohit Choudhary) by Imtiaz Ali. The colourful cinematography by Sylvester Fonseca supersedes the controversial songs composed by the original Chamkila. It beautifully matches the greenery with the dupattas showcasing how Chamkila through his work empowered feminism in the 80’s. Not only men but even women inside the thick corridors, window sills, and terrace boundaries found a breathing resource in his songs. Diljit Dosanjh as Amar Singh has taken a memorable room in our hearts. No one could have done it better than this humble actor. He conveyed what was meant to be told. The sheer fact that Amar Singh’s songs were based on his childhood and real-life experiences reveals the irony of every kid who is unaware of the huge gap between good & bad. The sweeping success, the lyrics he wrote, confidence, clarity of purpose, and refusal to bow down in adverse situations were unacceptable to many. The movie has an infinite spiral of colours, music, and dramatic transitions which keeps us captivated. Thanks to Aarti Bajaj for the fine editing. The director hasn’t tried to add his bit or make it. He has rather chosen to stream with truth and acknowledge it. Parineeti Chopra as Amarjyot is a role that will be heeded as rarest for a long time to which an actor dares to say yes. A R Rahman has kept the jewel of Panjabi locals intact. He owes a standing ovation for creating such tracks. Mohit Chauhan’s disguised look combined with his solid yet melodic voice along with Irshad Kamil’s meaningful lyrics has endless recollections. Live performances by singers are the oddest ordeals which makes us wonder how. All in all, a movie that begins with a sad ending that is hard to comprehend including those who know everything about the plot or the characters involved. In the end, BOAE says “Only Imtiaz Ali could have knitted an old forgotten saga so well that it has become a tribute to the entire Panjabi music industry.”

Watching the movie “Bastar” isn’t an easy task. You might feel like running 10 km in the scorching heat to acclimate to what you have just seen. Sudipto Sen-Vipul Amrutlal Shah, the duo is playing truth & dare like a pro here. This has been written by them along with Amarnath Jha. The story revolves around the “April 2010 Dantewada Maoist attack”. The incidents mentioned are all reported or covered by the media. Hence, creativity is used in the style of illustrating & not deviating from what occurred. Ragul Dharuman has shown us crystals through his lens whereas Dev Rao Jadhav has built the momentum. Adah Sharma is luminous when it comes to fitting into a role. Shilpa Shukla’s courtroom assertion has become one of our favourites. It’s fair to find her where she belongs. Anangsha Biswas scared us without a word. Raima Sen’s dominant declaration is as it should be. Yashpal Sharma’s grip on deprivation will move you. Vijay Krishna leaves prints in the very first scene. Indira Tiwari is a phenomenal, old soul wrapped in a saree. Kishore Kadam looks as if he belongs there. Key Takeaways:- 1) This is the end of the Tom & Jerry scenario regarding Bastar as the truth has been told. 2) What aches most is the fact that we usually get enchanted by the use of language & how sharply one curls the fiction. We get lost in different versions. 3) This one will make you repel the theory that “ Ignorance is bliss”. 4) This ain’t targeting any agenda but us that we don’t give a damn until it gets personal. 5) The end isn’t surprising because reality makes you tremble from the very beginning. All in all, this is a precise portrait of the crisis because enough is enough. The screenplays are erratic but intriguing. The story can be attested by the people who have lived or still living in the red corridors only if they are ready to share. In the end, BOAE says this isn’t for the faint-hearted who believe in minding their own life as there is a lot of sensitivity at stake. A huge round of cheering & a standing ovation to the team for giving us yet another tangible watch.

The movie “Laapataa Ladies” was watched in theatres today. This is written by Biplab Goswami, Divy Nidhi Sharma, & Sneha Desai. This is directed & produced (along with Aamir Khan) by Kiran Rao. This is a comic thriller that traverses a week in a village. The story touches on points that haven’t been given a thought for a long time. The creators have highlighted the identity crisis through the “Parda system” irrespective of religion. The tale revolves around multiple daughters who are at different crossroads of life & how they have been beautifully trained not to think beyond which is the biggest fraud or scam. Chaaya Kadam as Manju Mai is a kind of mom or/& guru who teaches how to be bold & at the same time caring. Pratibha Ranta as Jaya has a mind of her own. Nitanshi Goel as Phool has a naive heart. Sparsh as Deepak is an ignorant guy. Ravi Kishan, a shrewd police officer who knows how to close the case. Durgesh Kumar as Dubey ji is sprinkling humour. Many characters exist that are way too meaningful. The big musical team through their creation will give you a nostalgic tour. Key Takeaways:- 1) This talks beyond literacy in girls. The emphasis is to think ahead of being supportive & focus on self-sustenance. 2) Exploring a career in organic farming which is the core of our homeland or being an artist if you have those qualities has been suggested. 3) To redefine the relations as friends rather than those imposed by laws. 4) The idioms like “Jaagte Raho” are uttered to keep us awake mentally through the process of seeing the realities of life. An open and exposed mind is vulnerable to making some sound decisions. 5) The pressure to get married to safeguard parents’ social status is still so common. The threat to harm oneself is running through ages & in blood. 6) Poverty has its ways. The railway station wouldn’t be a go-to place if someone had an option. All in all, a movie that should be watched carefully to cherish how it awakens our minds. In the end, BOAE says this is a beep alert to the daughters of India who are unable to live a life of their choice.

The movie “Article 370” directed by Aditya S Jambhale was watched in theatres. The story has been divided into chapters to cover true events. It starts with a backstory narration so that even an unaware or innocent audience understands why it was such a big deal to nullify “Article 370”. The message is to stimulate the right to know is loud & clear. It strengthens the view that it was never Hindu vs Muslim but always humanity vs inhumanity. Yami as Zooni Haksar resonates that an insider has the right instincts to unfurl the chakravyuh. She is intense, sensitive & will make you truly emotional. Priyamani as Joint Secretary is glorious. She acts and talks with pointers. Our very own Raj Zutsi, the best friend in QSQT makes a solid mark. He is simply brilliant! Divya Seth is humorously cynical as the CM. Vaibhav as Chauhan is affirmative. He did justice in bringing the reality of the Pulwama Attack on screen. Iravati Harshe as a journalist is back with a bang. Kiran Karmarkar has nailed even the finest details. Arun Govil has kept the aura intact. Special applause to Raj Arjun & Sumit Kaul without whom it wouldn't be complete. The screenplay brings lots of intakes & is a mind-opener. You can't lose track even for a minute. The best part is that “No misery or pain has been stressed or played upon”. Like all good things needs a proper method, enactment & a solid strategy, this one too was a mixture of them. This win was for the people of J&K by the people of J&K. Others who truly love justice & believe in parity stood in solidarity to undo what was wrongly forced 72 years ago. The movie or the act of abrogation of the article shouldn’t be regarded as a political move or a religious act but rather an act of humanity to safeguard the border & protect our people who are deprived of normal life in or due to Kashmir. In the end, BOAE says it’s a pleasure to watch dynamic entertainers chipping in bringing a crucial milestone on screen. It made us privileged & happy as if we were watching live. All in all, this one is the epitome of lauding the act of justice.

We watched “Humsafar” on YouTube. This comes straight from the archive which dates back to 2011. The “telenovela” is based on a novel by Farhat Ishtiaq (who also wrote the screenplay) and directed by Sarmad Sultan Khoosat. This was created by Momina Duraid and starred Mahira Khan & Fawad Khan. The story revolves around the destiny of a young girl who wasn’t exposed much to worldly affairs. Her life takes thick and thin turns while she is in marvel about how to handle the ordeals without the notes. The impeccable chemistry she shares with her husband & her diligence while dealing with family is a sort of perfection. Her exquisite nature is a surprise element for all who belong to “Kalyug”. Hence, she has the company of those who are either envious, jealous or insecure. The screenplays are fresh even 13 years after. The dialogues differentiate the sense and respect in the way it has been delivered. The direction won’t let you skip a moment because nothing is causal here. Mahira and Fawad Khan both might agree that this one is still on top of their success chart. Naveen Waqar as Sana not only looks fabulous but she is better than any overdressed or hyper boss lady we have. Key takeaways:- 1) The most difficult confession is telling someone that he/she is far away from seeing the truth. 2) Tough times can make you die, deny or defy like never before. 3) One who can embrace satire, and dilemmas will emerge as the true winner when it’s time. 4) If one has faith in the Universe then one surely witnesses the solving of a most complex problem. If it doesn’t then it’s still incomplete. 5) Love without trust is like a body without a soul. 6) If you can’t stand by the person who truly loves you then you might encounter incidents that will make you regret all your life. In the end, BOAE says go watch this as it’s a beautiful saga of love and hatred. All in all, our writer Farhad Ishtiaq guides us to be courageous & observant while reading between the lines. So, we nail the truth along with the villain & prevent damage even if that person is the favourite of all.

The series “One Day” was watched in anticipation of finding a better adaptation of the fictional novel (written by David Nicholls 2009). This is composed by Anne Nikitin, Jessica Jones, & Tim Morrish. This is much better than any movie based to date. The screenplays will clean bold you. It defines romance & highlights the inhibitions we have had since we were teenagers. The constant tug-of-war of doing or intentionally missing has been reflected. This has a finer take on “What is love”, “Why should we live in the moment”, and “Why we shouldn't look behind for regrets? It tells us to focus on the next move of “life” rather than sit idly & feel guilty or gloomy. We have 2 characters here. First is Leo Woodall who doesn’t get how he can be unattractive to a girl who he likes. Though his charm grows manifold in the passing year, he gets reckless in search of her which he already has. He couldn’t accept that he had been gifted a girl’s emotional presence. He beats around the bush only to take a U-turn with some more baggage for life. Second, is Ambika Mod, the perfect (knows it all) girl in the picture who is high on “It’s ain’t casual”. She is unable to accept that she has been sent a best friend. She keeps struggling until she gets that life isn’t all about working hard to prove that alone I can. She has such high standards that when she stumbles it’s a free fall. She is much messier now but who cares? Isn’t life all about getting some and losing some only if you keep moving? The story has a cliche end and certainly goes by the book but here it means if you lose someone in whichever way possible you have the same pain as if the person has died. We have been shattered many times and what is the best thing to do? Drench yourself one last time & get back where you left off. The purpose will find you only if you are ready like a newborn. Completely unedited! All, in all this series is touchy by all means as it has the right essence, dialogues, rhythm & apt songs to keep you on track. In the end, BOAE says “Watch it with or without your valentine”.

The movie “Teri Baaton Mein…” is a sensible watch with a comic take at the right places. This is written & directed by a fresh duo- Amit Joshi & Aradhana Sah. The movie is a perfect gateway to a Valentine’s Day out. The first half might seem slow but the audience is in for a robotic experience. Our very own Shahid Kapoor is rocking full-on. His looks, acting, dancing and sense of humour get a clear 10/10. The dance credit also goes to the man in charge, Vijay Ganguly. The star couple not only looks fabulous but they sweepingly surpass the Sharukh-Deepika mark. Kriti Sanon, our robotic barbie is in her career-best performance. She doesn’t feel like a human at even a single instance. The storyline is solid with no technical glitches. The creators are trying to show us what to expect and how much to expect from a robot. The second half picks up most unpredictably. There are lots of unsaid emotions of desperation, realisation & acceptance. The editing by Manish Pradhan is impactful. He has contributed to the core messaging. The cinematography by Laxman Utekarm makes the visuals naturally beautiful. Dimple Kapadia is not only looking way prettier than ever but her acting sets new standards. The movie comes with a very strong social message:- 1) You can do what you want but you can’t get it all. 2) The digital or AI life can keep you busy but it cannot be a fulfilling life. 3) The technical glitches in the form of viruses/bugs caused in a computer don’t hit you hard as it’s not personal. 4) We need to trust humans and care for them if we want life to be normal and not programmed. 5) Nothing is perfect be it human or robot so use your battle basis the chaos you can handle neatly. The story doesn’t delve deeper into the AI world, it floats at the mass level and focuses on the outcome. All in all, a must-watch which will uplift your and your loved one's mood! In the end, BOAE says the movie touches your heart and makes you happy. Who wins the crown? Undoubtedly, the directors treated it finely & made it to the finish line! To all the Shahid fans go watch it as this one is here to win.

Bigg Boss 17 has finally come to an end with the live telecast being stopped. This can also be called “The Great BB Mystery” as a dream is going for a reality check. It was all about senses whereas Bigg Boss who was always god-like (since the last 18 seasons including 2 OTTs) was a live judge. He did claim to be biased but he was not. He stood up for the right and called out the bad. He understands the misuse of Digital marketing and Paid PR. Hence, he was adamant in protecting those who deserved to be protected. Salman Khan and Karan Johar’s counselling sessions have life lessons but with different approaches. Salman would go quiet after a point but Karan preferred to make a point till the very end. The thoughtful ones took it as a hint and decoded it. The remaining cribbed for the rest of the season. This marked their exit with a strong sense of disapproval & no scope for improvement. Their lies, manipulations, cheating, poking, beating hiding, blaming etc weighed lighter than a peanut and were frequent visitors like a milkman. The line of respect was violated more than the LoC of any country. They all made one common mistake. They remained in one single loop for a longer period until they turned boring. This led to the decline of their individual TRP. Who had what? Aishwarya had clarity, Neil had energy, Khanzadi had charisma, Jigna had durability, Rinku had conviction, Tehelka had fun, Anurag had the calmness of a wildfire, Sana had vulnerability, Abhishek had sensitivity, Munawar had observation, Mannara had emotions, Vicky had a master plan, Isha had a game, Samarth had entertainment, Ayesha had vengeance, Navid had softness, Aoora had colours, Arun had solidarity, Sonia had style, Manasvi had a voice, and Ankita had a personality. Holding their weapons they came alone to win a war-like game. The show which ran for 105 days will always remain etched in our memories for being original and fresh! This happens only when Bigg Boss himself chooses to be righteous. He was showing a yellow and red card when needed like an impersonal referee. He was a friend, confidante and a company too. So, who are you voting for? May the most endearing contestant win.

The movie “Main Atal Hoon” was written (along with Rishi Virmani) & directed by Ravi Jadhav. His Marathi movie, Balgandharva had won 3 National Film Awards. This story revolves around the 10th Prime Minister of India, Shri Atal Behari Vajpayee. His journey is finely intertwined with the history of a group which aimed to uplift the people of India. We were in awe to have witnessed such a realistic, practical yet interesting story of a young boy. Through his poetry and style, he won the hearts of people in & outside the parliament. He was praised equally by his opponents as he never regarded anyone as “not equal”. There are hidden harsh realities that Gen Z or those who avert politics might not know. The irony is it's our right to know so that we vote wisely once we are 18. The narration and the highlights which are chosen make sense. The mention of S.P Mukherjee, J.P Narayan & Shastry ji gives a stronghold to the movie. Pankaj Tripathi as Atal ji must have been an undebatable choice. When he enters a character he loves, then you appreciate what you see. His oration is completely in sync with the statesman. Piyush Mishra who played Atal ji’s dad is a legend who reassures us that we are going to learn a life lesson. The cinematography by Lawrence D'Cunha & editing by Bunty Nagi is brilliant. The way the real clips have been doused with the shoot clips seamlessly is brilliant. The music, the score by Monty Singh & the song by Kailash Kher will keep you in touch with Bharat Maa. We inferred that his world would have been loveless or bondless until we watched the unbelievable bond he shared with his father and the infallible love life he lived. He was a harbinger of truth and a well-wisher of undivided India who could get revivified through his creative ventilator. He could also be recalled as a fortune teller who knew the value of his life and hence, chose to protect himself, only to deliver more. All in all, a movie which is beautiful beyond imagination and aims to utter plain truth. In the end, BOAE says, “Watch it so that you aren't deprived of reality and the magical captivation by the director”.

The movie “Three of Us” was watched on Netflix. This is written (along with Omkar Achyut Barve, & Arpita Chatterjee) & directed by Avinash Arun. A story of reunion to heal together and find oneself. It's so ironic that we often meet our true selves at the point which we have been trying to evade for years. The half-said dialogues which keep the mystery on are written by Varun Grover & Shoaib Zulfi Nazeer. The editing by Sanyukta Kaza is a zigzag of silence and noise of daily life. It holds your hand till the very end and you don't even feel the need for a background score. The actor who seems to be abruptly chosen to fill the trio space is none other than Swanand Kirkire who has been using our mind shares through his lyrics. The latest one is “Lutt Putt Gaya” from “Dunki”. His presence is like a pain reliever tube. Jaideep Ahlawat is an actor who is blessed with a face which is the core of India. He uses it dramatically making the audience gulp water despite sipping while he shares the darkest phase of his life. Shefali Shah is on her charismatic spree and this one is a diamond cut from the universe itself. We couldn't have imagined anyone else except her. The choice of place and the way of sharing the essence of it will make you long for your happy place aka home town. The story justifies the need for a reunion before we die. It highlights how important it is to say goodbye to each phase of our lives which we have opened hurriedly in excitement when young. Then, there comes the acceptance of a disease called “Dementia” where you are going to forget about who you are. The writer and the director draw a beautiful analogy between the two thoughts. First, when we are born our soul knows who is ours but we don't have a memory to back it up which is very similar to when suffering from memory loss. It's like you are born again. Second, when we are about to not recall anything then people around us & our muscle memory help us to live. We just need to trust the process as we move in our lives trusting the Almighty. Huge applause for 🙌 as it stirs our soul. watch

The movie “Farrey” was watched in theatres on 24-Nov-23 but we just can't get over it. This is written (also by Abhishek Yadav) & directed by Soumendra Padhi. This is an official remake of “Bad Genius” 2017. The Indianised version was much needed to sensitize the issue as it's hurting students. We have been apprised by the rich buying degrees through the poor notion in “3 Idiots” but this goes many levels deeper. Here, poverty, temptation, riches, limitations, manipulation, fear and choice have been taught in the most tricky way. Alizeh Agnihotri is a relatable girl with the strength of a lioness. Sahil Mehta made a mark in “Good Luck Jerry”, & here he comes with a different track. Zeyn Shaw is the shady chocolate boy who is a gamer. Prasanna Bisht is giving us anxiety goals. She is hard to resist. The screenplays are quickly changing while the mind is cracking. The tension builds up like the exam hall and pumps more blood. It exposes the biggest racket which is or will run soon. It will take you back to your childhood days when exams were like horrible horror movies. You want to escape but you can't. This can be misused by nasty brainiacs who will choose to experiment on the idea. The method used for cheating is sharp & set on a stop clock. Hence, there is no chance of goofing up. The story ends with a choice between the right and wrong. It underlines how we choose the abuse. We convince ourselves that whatever we choose, we will end up being unlucky. The story, in addition, questions the sudden exposure of riches to the poor which is deadly. This has many parenting pointers. Hence, should be watched in houseful theatres with friends and family or could have been made obligatory in schools. This should be followed by a counselling session/knowledge sharing on how you think this can be stopped. In the end, BOAE says don't skip this one. Choose the truth over a series of lies, less money over enormous illicit money as one should live light and die light. Our heart goes out to all the kids who are trapped and can't find their way out.

The movie “Dry Day” was watched on Amazon Prime. This is a social issue alert on alcoholism and its blow on our society. The story is written and directed by Saurabh Shukla. The movie starts with an oration & you will sit tight in awe. Jitendra Kumar as Gannu is a challenge conquered. He has grasped the accent and the very first scene is impressive. It is marvellous to see how he washes his old image to paint a new one. With strong supportive screenplays, a whole new setup and unique backdrops, Gannu’s changeover journey begins which is arduous & heart-wrenching. It opens our eyes to apprehend the most important fact of how illiteracy is hurting us. The generations of illiteracy lead to impairment of intellect. How a family who is handicapped by alcohol can concentrate on their children’s education? How the disaster of last night can be kept aside to wake up on time for school? These are a few questions which will linger on. Another strong message comes in the form of Gannu’s wife who is the first torch bearer herself. She fortifies the duty a parent has. She is educated & comes from a family which respects education. The story was aimed to be light with funny punches but once you understand the irony you become touchy and sensitive. Shriya Pilgaonkar is stunning with a stronghold of the character she is playing. Annu Kapoor as Dauji is the most versatile veteran actor we have today. He is currently winning hearts through his FM show “Suhana Safar”. The end is brilliant which reflects how the presence of mind can win a lost battle. What hurts? The articulation and the dialect are so perfect that the majority of the audience will need a Hindi subtitle (Not an English one as it changes the context). All in all, a movie that is well-created and will slowly win souls but currently falls under less understood categories like the movie “Sonchiriya”. In the end, BOAE says the way it has been conveyed by Saurabh Shukla will always be used as a reference and deserves special applause from the critics.

21/12/2023

The movie “Dunki” written (also by Abhijat Joshi & Kanika Dhillon), edited and directed by Rajkumar Hirani comes with a strong social message of staying back on its soil and not seeking the greenest grass on the other side of the border. The story dates back to 1995 when travelling through Dunky mode aka Donkey flights was very different from today’s but equally life-threatening. The story beautifully encompasses the three hells. The first point in time is when you focus on going abroad by all means, The Second is the route to the destination which only a few crosses and the third is life after reaching. The screenplays are not interesting and long. The editing is not good and hence, it seems boring to watch. The audience could hardly laugh when there was so much comedy delivered on screen. Shahrukh Khan delivers his role with the same magic and passion as he does in the movies Chak De and Veer Zara. He isn't ageing anytime soon. Tapsee Pannu is an actor with a solid foundation but she doesn't age well in this one. The acting was off the mark and the makeup looked made up. Vicky Kaushal, the man in special appearance was indeed special. He looked like a hard-core Punjabi Munda which he is and his acting was better than ever. He should have more character roles. It's good to see Boman Irani in a funny avtaar again but this role comes with a Punjabi tadka. Deven Bhojani as Puru is super cute and funny. Anil Grover as Balli will blow your mind. His acting will sink your soul. The scene where Hardy confronts Balli Kukkad about sending true images will deform your heart. Music by Pritam & score by Aman Pant are the saviours. In the end, the story walks back to India and tries to gain all the emotions through turns and twists but fails to create the desired effect. All in all, a movie which is made with a lot of love to create a difference in “Aam Janta’s mind regarding life outside the country. It arouses patriotic feelings and love for our own and ours. In the end, BOAE says “To all those who have made up their mind to live and die in foreign soil whatsoever, we sincerely urge you to rethink and live light.”
