Economic Nobel winner Angus Deaton's message for India "Our work highlighted that malnutrition is not just about a lack of calories, and certainly not about a lack of cereal calories, but is more about the lack of variety in the diet—the absence of things like leafy vegetables, eggs, and fruit."
Janta Meals is humbled to be able to be playing a role in trying to solve the problem.
Economics Nobel Winner Angus Deaton Has a Message for India I am thrilled to have been awarded the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel 2015. I am even more thrilled that the Nobel Committee highlighted the work that my collaborators and I have done on India. My work shows how important it is that independent researchers
Janta Meals is exploring the idea of mobile food trucks for last mile service
Janta Meals provides wholesome, hygienic and nutritious meals at affordable prices to the working class. To make the meals more accessible to them, Janta has created various point of sales like outlets, factory canteens, construction sites, schools, NGO’s etc. The team is constantly on the lookout to explore new avenues that could lead to greater pe*******on of the meal services to the working class.
The company is exploring the possibility of starting mobile food trucks in Gurgaon region. The food trucks will have an added advantage of moving deep into the areas inhabited by the low-income group. Aptly called “Janta Food Vans”, these trucks will collect the food from the depot and move to station themselves at locations where the concentration of working class is higher. Residential colonies and factories are major target areas of the proposed food trucks.
The company is seeking out for prospective entrepreneurs who are willing to venture into the food truck business and serve affordable meals to this large segment of the society. Quite a number of entrepreneurs have shown interested in the business considering its potential size and potential to pe*****te deep into the low-income areas. The company expects the first truck to be operational by the end of this year in Gurgaon.

Hello! Janta Meals was recently covered in Dutch media - De Financiele Telegraaf. Attached is a clipping of the article.
For those that are new to Janta Meals, though it is based in India, it partly holds its roots in the Netherlands! The CEO, Jesse van de Zand is Dutch and Janta Meals was initiated in association with Enviu - Innovators in sustainability, a Dutch social enterprise incubator. Enviu continues to remain a shareholder. Our recent crowdfunding campaign also saw quite some donations from the Netherlands.
It's great to have the support from citizens of two nationalities!

Exaclty why Janta Meals is around.. .hopefully soon in Delhi too
Junk food is feeding a malnutrition epidemic in Delhi's slums Poor parents are turning to junk food not only because their children like its taste but also because it is less expensive than a full meal.
Janta Meals featured in the Business Line on April 11. Thank you for the article Rashmi Pratap. Some readers left quite some encouraging comments below the article while also drawing a comparison between Janta Meals and the Amma's Canteen model in Chennai. For us at Janta Meals, the basic difference and hence the benefit of our model is that it is not based on subsidies or grants, but is in fact a self-sustaining business model. Do have a read and let us know what you think. :)
