Centre for South East Asian Studies, Gauhati University signed MoU with Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies (MAKAIAS), Kolkata.

The Director, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies (MAKAIAS), Dr. Sarup Prasad Ghosh signed the MoU on behalf of MAKAIAS while Dr. Hemanta Kumar Nath, Registrar, Gauhati University and Prof. Nani Gopal Mahanta, Director, Centre for South East Asian Studies, Gauhati University signed the MoU on behalf of Gauhati University.

17th Anita Baruah Memorial Lecture delivered at Gauhati University. Internationally acclaimed academician and poet Dr. Rukmini Bhaya Nair delivered the lecture titled " From Colonial Attitudes to Post Colonial Aspirations".

Gauhati University shines in the 37th National Inter University Youth Festival winning 15 national prizes held at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana under the aegis of Association of Indian Universities from 28th March to 1st April 2024.

Gauhati University is the winner of North East Zone Inter University Youth Festival in 2024 and thereafter participated in the said national festival.

In Theatre section, Gauhati University bagged 2nd position in One Act Play, Skit & Mime and 3rd prize in Mimicry competition. In Music section, G.U. won 2nd position in Folk Orchestra, Classical Instrumental (Percussion) & 3rd position in Western Group Song. Also G.U. won 2nd position in Classical dance in Dance section and in Fine Arts Section G.U. bagged 1st position in On the Spot Painting, Cartooning, Poster Making and Rangoli. G.U. also won 2nd position in Cultural Procession, Overall 3rd Best Team in Theatre section and 3rd Best Team in Fine Arts. The GU team led by Dr Debashis Saikia and Dr Irani Hazarika under the guidance of Dr Ranjan Kr Kakati, DSW, GU. Prof. Pratap Jyoti Handique, Vice-Chancellor, G.U., Dr. Hemanta Kr Nath, Registrar, G.U. , Dr Jagadish sarma, Secretary University Classes, GU & Dr. Ranjan Kr. Kakati, Director, Students’ Welfare congratulated the entire GU team for bringing glory to the state of Assam and the university.

The Department of Zoology, Gauhati University organizes 1st Prof. T.C. Deka Memorial National Oration and Award Ceremony, 2024. Prof. Pratap Jyoti Handique , the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor , Gauhati University, inaugurated the lecture program. The Memorial Oration was delivered by Padma Shri Prof. Aditya Prasad Dash, Vice-Chancellor of Asian Institute of Public Health University, Bhubaneswar, Odisha (former VC of Central University of Tamil Nadu and Regional Advisor, World Health Organization, SEAR).

It is also found that the miscreant is communicating with many people which may lead to unpleasant and unwanted situations. As such, all are requested not to the whatsapp messages in any matter that might be connected to the University and the Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, G.U.

On the occasion of 13th Anniversary celebration of Radio Luit 90.8 F.M (community Radio), a program "Parikroma 2024" was organized by the Centre for Distance and Online Education, Gauhati University.

The 4th Debo Prasad Barooah Memorial Lecture was held on 9th of February, 2024 at Gauhati University.
The welcome address was made by Professor Dr. Dhruba Pratim Sharma of the Department of Political Science. The programme was inaugurated by Professor Dr. Jogen Chandra Kalita, Dean, Faculty of Science, and chaired by Professor Jayanta Krishna Sarmah, Dean, Faculty of Arts. Professor Dr. Nani Gopal Mahanta, Education Advisor to the Government of Assam, was the Guest of Honour. In his address, Prof. Mahanta highlighted Prof. Barooah’s commitment to the cause of indigenous people who were being disentitled to land, resources, and development, which was the root of secessionism.
The memorial lecture titled ‘The Working of Indian Democracy: Some Reflections’ was delivered by Prof. Sandhya Goswami, former Head of the Department of Political Science, Gauhati University, and a member of the Lokniti wing of the Centre for Study of Developing Societies (CSDS), New Delhi.

The Department of Bodo, Gauhati University, organized a Two Day National Seminar on Folklore and Ecology in North East India from 8-9th February, 2024. The programme was sponsored by the ICSSR, New Delhi.

The Indian Library Association has conferred ILA – Dr. L. M. Padhya best university library award for the year 2023 to Krishna Kanta Handiqui Library , the Central Library of Gauhati University in recognition of its outstanding contribution in promoting teaching, learning and research to its user community and providing very distinguishing library services to its members of Gauhati University.

The Award was received by the Librarian of Krishna Kanta Handiqui Library at the 69th Annual Conference of Indian Library Association taking place at Gauhati University, Guwahati, Assam.

The H.K. Barpujari memorial lecture, organised by the Gauhati University Institute of North East India studies was held at Gauhati University today, before an audience of academics, researchers and students and especially members of the family of Prof Barpujari. Prof. Pratap Jyoti Handique, the Vice Chancellor, Gauhati Univeristy was the chief guest on the occasion and
he inaugurated the event. The speaker was Prof Sarah Ferber, of the University of Wollongong in Australia. The lecture was titled, HISTORY WRITING AND THE POLITICS OF ANALOGY.
