Munin Barkotoki Memorial Trust

The award money was handed over to the powerful short story writer and the winner of the Munin Barkotoki Literary Award 2023, Dr. Nayanjyoti Sharma, by senior Addaghar member and writer Ms. Suniti Sonowal, at Addaghar on Friday, 9th Feb. 2024.

Besides members of Addaghar, past awardees Apu Bharadwaj and Mridul Haloi were also present as guests as was singer Dorodi Patar. It was a very beautiful session including interaction with the awardee, a beautiful reading of one of his stories by Mridul Haloi and a melodious recitation plus singing of a Mridul Haloi poem by Dorodi Patar. The next award meeting will be held early in 2025 when the awards for the years 2023 and 2024 will be formally given away.

On the occasion of the Adyashraddh of respected Professor Birendranath Dutta Sir who has been a constant source of support and guidance to the Trust, we pay our respects and homage to the memory of the departed soul. We convey our sincere condolences to Sir's family, especially Baidew, and hope that they find the strength to cope with their loss. Their loss is also ours...

Our Trust, in collaboration with the Department of English, Cotton University, is organising a day-long memorial event to honour renowned poet Jayanta Mahapatra on Friday, the 13th October, 2023 at Cotton University. About 50 poets and scholars are expected to attend.

Entry is strictly by invitation.

The great Indian poet Jayanta Mahapatra who was also a great friend of the Northeast and of the Munin Barkotoki Memorial Trust passed away on the 27th August 2023. Besides being a poet of very high acclaim, Jayantada was a beautiful and sensitive human being who lived and loved everyone who came his way. He has left a deep impact on the lives and in the growth as a poet of many.

We pay our respects to his memory in gratitude and hope that we can keep his memory and his work alive.

Like every year since 1995, entries are invited for consideration for the Munin Barkotoki Literary Award 2023.

The Munin Barkotoki Literary Awards 2021 and 2022 will be given away at an event starting at 4:30 pm on Saturday 25th Feb. 2023 at the Vivekananda Kendra Auditorium, Uzanbazar, Guwahati.

The chief guest of the meeting, distinguished writer, academic and Sankardev scholar Professor Ranjit Kumar Dev Goswami, will give away the awards.

On the occasion, our Guest of Honour and invited speaker well known social activist, writer and journalist Padmashri Patricia Mukhim, editor of the Shillong Times, will deliver a public lecture titled 'The power of words'.

Pradyumna Gogoi, one of our recent awardees, has just been awarded the Saahitya Akademie Yuva Puraskar, for the year 2022. We are very proud of your achievement, Pradyumna. You have done us all proud. Congratulations! This is very happy news!

It is my proud privilege to announce the winner of the Munin Barkotoki Literary Award 2022: young and promising short story writer Upasana Saikia wins this year's award for her manuscript titled 'Halodhiya Jota'. Our heartiest congratulations to Upasana.

Finally, we could manage to have a small get together at Panchabati yesterday evening (29.1.2022) at which Renuka Devi Barkataki's biography written by Binoy Mohan Saikia was released by Padmashri Ajay Dutta, and a painting based on the cover sketch by Chandan Chutia was also unveiled. At the same event the cheque was also presented to the Munin Barkotoki Literary Awardee for the year 2021, Pradyumna Kr. Gogoi.
In his speech, Padmashri Ajay Dutta gave a vivid account of his association with Mrs. Barkataki and spoke of her indomitable energy and courage. We record our gratitude to all who came, especially historian Rajen Saikia, Addaghar members, the publisher Purbayon, past Munin Barkotoki awardees, and others who knew, admired and respected the Barkataki couple.
