On 8th May 2024, a special Moot Court class was organised by NEF Law College for the students of 10th sem BA.LLB/BBA.LLB/BCOM.LLB as a part of their final sem practical paper.

The class was conducted by the students of NEF Law College themselves who had represented the college in various moot court competitions. Through the class, the students explained the basics of moot court and also demonstrated how moot court is done.

On 27th April, 2024 and on 4th May, 2024, the NEF Debate Forum has organised debate workshops on developing debating skills for the students of 5years BA/BBA/B.Com LLB (hons) and 3years LLB/LLB (hons).

The workshop was conducted by Mrs. Joyeeta Rajkhowa (In-charge NEF debate forum) and the members of the said Forum- Mrs. Nisha Sharma, Mrs. Banani Adhikari and Ms. Namie Saikia, as well as the student members Mr. Denzel Albano Serenge (BA LLB Hons 8th sem) and Mr. Aryadutta Goswami (BA LLB Hons 10th sem)of the Forum who enlightened the student participants with PowerPoint presentation.
In the workshop a preliminary session was conducted wherein the student participants could demonstrate their oratory skills.

As a part of annual placement for final year students an interactive session was conducted with students from 5 years 10th Sem BA/BBA/BCOM.LLB and 3years 6th Sem LLB. This Session highlighted on the Placement prospects for the final year students and briefed them how to prepare their Resume for the same. The Session was conducted by Dr. Parveen Islam (In- Charge), Mrs. Mafuza A. Saikia (Dept. In- Charge), Mrs. Hema Gogoi ( Member).

On 29th April 2024, Tinsukia Law College organized the 2nd P Khaitan Memorial Moot Court Competition 2024 at their college premises. A total of almost 10 teams participated in the competition.
A team from NEF Law College comprising :
Farhan Masood Zaman (BA.LLB 8th sem)
Zachariah Jeffrey Ryngjah (BBA.LLB 8th sem)
Puranjan Mahanta ( BBA.LLB 6th sem)
represented the college in the aforesaid competition.

The NEF Law College team performed very well and garnered heaps of praises from the spectators as well as from the organizers and judges .

Moreover, Zachariah Jeffrey Ryngjah was adjudged the BEST ORATOR amongst all the participants and for the same he was given a trophy award.

The students were accompanied and guided by Mr. Saptarishi Prasad Sharma, Assistant Professor, NEF Law College. They were also supervised by Mrs Satavisa Bora, Dr. Pankaj Choudhary and Ms. Modhu Chanda Dey, Assistant Professors, NEF Law College.

TOPIC- A SPECIAL TALK ON LEGAL RESEARCH: AN INSIGHT AND RELEASE OF SEVENTH VOLUME OF JOURNAL OF JURIDICAL AND SOCIAL SCIENCE OF NEF LAW COLLEGE

SUMMARY REPORT

The event commenced with a warm welcome to the eminent dignitaries of the day, Justice (Retd.) Biplab Kumar Sharma, former Judge of the Gauhati High Court (Chief guest), Prof (Dr.) R.C. Borpatragohain, former Advocate General, Assam and former Dean, P.G. Dept. of LawG.U. (Guest of Honour) and Dr.AparajitaBaruah, Head, Dept. of Law, G.U. (Resource Person), along with Dr. Manashi Kalita, Principal, NEF Law College, and Mrs. Farhana Ahmed, Assistant Director NEF Law College and all the faculty members, administrative staff and students by the Host of the event, Miss. Tapashree Moitra, Assistant Professor,NEF Law College.

The program started with enlightening of the lamp followed by Saraswati Vandana and felicitation of the dignitaries by the students of NEF Law College.
The programme was then proceeded with the welcome address and speech delivered by Dr. Manashi Kalita, Principal, NEF Law College/ Chief Editor of the Journal of Juridical and Social science. Extending warm welcome and thankfulness to the dignified dignitaries’ for making their kind presence for the event Dr Manashi Kalita talked about the theme of the event. She also appreciated the members of the journal committee for their untiring works for the successful publication of the journal. Thereafter Mrs. Farhana Ahmed, Assistant Director of NEF Law College, by welcoming the esteemed guests spoke about the importance of the event and also greeted the journal committee members for successful publication of it’s Volume 7.

Dr. Parveen Islam, Assistant Professor, NEF Law College gave an insight on the agenda and objectives of the program. She threw light on the importance of research in the field of academics and advocacy. She also stressed that a researcher mind should be free from preconceived notion during carrying out research.

Chief Guest ,Justice (Retd.) Biplab Kumar Sharma, then graced the session with his valuable knowledge and deliberation. He opened his deliberation with a famous quote that is Nothing succeed like success by citing the life history of Sir Alfred Bernhard Nobel. He further opined that research is a never-ending process and it should be free from presumption. He also highlighted the importance of Supreme Court cases in the field of advocacy and legal research and inspired the students to employ themselves with research from the beginning of their legal education.
Guest of Honour, Prof (Dr.) R.C. Borpatragohain, then laid emphasis on the research process and very categorically explained that research is that process which continues for the entire life. He pointed out that since Constitution is the passage of law, it cannot be static and therefore it should address recent precepts of globalisation, privatisation and industrialisation. He also reiterated about Upholding the San Francisco Promise: The Roadmap to a Constitutionalised United Nation,by reflecting upon the recourse to the constitution and dynamic interpretation by the courts. Through his deliberation he prods into different areas aligned with recent developments that needs to be addressed for research such as Article 21, Article 141, Article 143, Article 253, Article 367, Public Interest Litigation, etc. He has further appealed to the audiences to review the language of the constitution on the basis of interpretation rule of mimansa and Nyaya. He also opined that Artificial Intelligence should not prevail over the intelligence of human being. It should be used as an instrument only. His intellectual deliberations motivated the students.
Resource Person, Dr Aparajita Baruah, thereafter took over the session. She stated that legal research should be related to the interest of a person. She further stated that researcher’s interest of the topic is the starting point of the research. Through PPT she highlighted different aspects of research such as study of human behaviour, interaction, attitudes pertaining to any law, social and behavioural phenomena etc. She mentioned about the steps involved in legal research which are as follows- identification of the problem, study of problem, survey or literature review, enumeration of objectives, scope, ambit, significance, adoption of methodology, scheme of study, analysis of legal rules, resolution to legal problems, conclusions, finding and solutions. She also discussed about the rationale and the spirit behind some of the recommendation in the NEP 2020, in the field of multidisciplinary legal research. Her scholarly deliberations motivated the students to prepare their course material of legal research methodology in a systematic way.
Thereafter the program proceeded with the release of Volume 7 of the Journal of Juridical and Social Science. Before release of the journal, Editorial note was delivered by Dr Rehana Sultana Choudhury, Assistant Professor/ Editor of the Journal of Juridical and Social Science, wherein she introduced about the contents of the journal and the contributions made by authors by highlighting the publication policies and detailed guidelines. Thereafter the eminent dignitaries formally released Volume 7 of Journal of Juridical and Social science, July -December, 2023, ISSN NO- 312231-4636.

The session was concluded by the Vote of Thanks proposed by Mrs. Nisha Sarma, Assistant Professor, NEF Law College. The rapporteurs for the session were Mrs. Sarmistha Das and Mrs. Moushumi Sarmah, Assistant Professors, NEF Law College.

The program was organised by the members of Journal Committee under the co-ordination of In-charge of Journal Committee of NEF Law College Dr. Rehana Sultana Choudhury. The Journal committee members namely Dr.Parveen Islam, Dr. Pankaj Choudhury, Mrs. Sarmistha Das, Dr. Sumita Gope, Mrs. Moushumi Sarmah, Mrs Mahfuja Anjum Saikia, Ms. Pinky Bora, Mrs. Joyeeta Rajkhowa, Mrs Purba Goswami, Mrs. Nisha Sarma , Ms. Priyanka Saikia, and Mrs. Mitali Sarma were actively involved with the program to make it a success.

On 22nd April, 2024 the IQAC Cell & ECO Club of NEF Law College has organised a cleanliness drive on the account of Earth Day in collaboration with Auxilium Provincial House, Christian Basti, Guwahati in the GMC Hostel Road.

Ms. Pinky Bora (In-charge, ECO Club) along with the members of ECO Club: Mrs. Sarmistha Das, Mrs. Moushumi Sarmah, Mrs. Sudarshana Roy, Mrs. Rashmi R. Phukan, Mrs. Upashana Goswami and Mrs. Tapti Bora, Assistant Professors with some students under the guidance of Principal, Dr. Manashi Kalita, and the members of Auxilium Provincial House headed by Sister Lydia Komuhra along with some of their students has actively participated in the drive.

Nowgong Law College had organised the 1st National Moot Court Competition 2024 in hybrid mode from 16th-31st March 2024.

There were around 15 teams in the online preliminary rounds which gradually reduced as the rounds proceeded.

A team from NEF Law College comprising of Ujjaini Borthakur (BA.LLB 9th sem), Phurpha Lhamu (LLB 6th sem) and Naina Konwar ( BA.LLB 8th sem) had also participated in the same.

On the last day of the competition ie. 31st March 2024 when the finals were conducted offline in the premises of their esteemed institution at Nagaon, the NEF Law College team were adjudged the 1st Runners-up.

Moreover Naina Konwar was also jointly given the Best Mooter Award.

The teams were given certificate and trophies for their win.

The students were guided and accompanied by Mr. Saptarshi Prasad Sharma and Ms. Modhu Chanda Dey, Assistant Professors, NEF Law college. The students were also supervised by Mrs Satavisa Bora and Dr. Pankaj Choudhary, Assistant Professors, NEF Law College.

On 30th of March, 2024 the Quiz Forum of NEF Law College has conducted an Intra College Quiz Competition among the students of B.A./ B.B.A/B.Com. LL.B(H) , LL.B/ LL.B(H) & LL.M. on the occassion of celebrating 'Chatra Divas' (the Birth Anniversary of Bodafa Upendra Nath Brahma on 31st March, 2024) at the seminar hall of NEF Law College.

On 28 March 2024, NEF Law College observed the Advocacy Programme in Assam, organised by the Competition Commission of India(CCI) under the State Resource Person (SRP) Scheme in collaboration with the IQAC Cell of NEF LAW COLLEGE, Guwahati.

The Resource Persons were Mr. Umesh Kumar, Retired DGP Government of Assam and Mr.Tanuj Goswami, a State Civil Service Officer of Assam retired as Addl Secretary, Secretariat Administration Department.

The programme was conducted in a hybrid mode.

Dr Manashi Kalita, Principal NEF Law College, along with the students and faculty members of the college were present during the programme. Ms Tapashree Moitra, Faculty of Law, Nef Law College hosted the event and also delivered the Vote of Thanks.

On 7th March, 2024, the Women's Cell of NEF Law College has undertaken a special initiative as a part of pre-celebrating the the International Women's Day on 8th March, 2024 by distributing sanitary pads, snacks and refreshments to women and girls of Harijan Colony, near GMCH area. The members of Women's Cell and other faculty members participated in this enthusiastically and spent the day well with those women educating them about menstrual hygiene.

Along with the above-mentioned initiative, the Women's Cell of NEF Law College also inaugurated a First Aid Section of the Legal aid Clinic at NEF Law College. The inauguration was done by Respected Assistant Director of NEF Law College Mrs. Farhana Ahmed, Respected Principal Dr. Manashi Kalita and Mrs. Hema Gogoi, In-charge of Women's Cell in the presence of other faculty members.

A special thanks goes to the Dr. Manashi Kalita, Principal NEF Law College for her support for the event and members of Women's Cell, namely, Mrs. Hema Gogoi(In-charge), Mrs. Amrita Chetia, Mrs. Mahfuja A. On 28th February, 2024, World Wide Fund (WWF) India Assam- State Office organized a Training for the students of NEF Law College on Plastic Pollution and how they can take part in the Tide Turners Plastic Challenge. UNEP’s Tide Turners Plastic Challenge is a global youth-led movement on plastic pollution implemented by WWF- India. Since 2019, the campaign focuses on educating young minds to mark community awareness and finding innovative solutions to plastic pollution. As part of phase 5 in 2023, Tide Turners is flagging a new chapter by reaching the institute in the State of Assam as in other States of India by encouraging them to learn about the issue of plastic pollution, engage in the challenge and take action with the students on the cause.
In the training, it was alarmed that how our planet is under the threat of plastics. Every year worldwide 400 million tonnes of plastic are produced. Around half of all this plastic produced is meant for single use which is almost the same as the weight of the entire human population. Also, every year 11 million tons of plastics end up in our oceans. By 2050, there will be more plastic than fish in our oceans. Further, an activity was also conducted for the students where they selected a topic and shared their opinion on whether it should be a concern, influence or control. The students were also guided about how the tide on plastics can be turned by joining the challenge by registering themselves as an individual on www.tide-turners.org and begin their journey.

Around 150 students comprising of LLM, 5yr B. A/B.B.A/B. Com. LLB(H) and 3yr LL. B/ LL. B(H) actively participated in the Training. The Teacher- In- Charge for the programme was Ms. Moushumi Sarmah, Assistant Professor, NEF Law College.

A Legal Aid Camp was organised by NEF Law College on 27th February 2024 for the students of B.A./ B.B.A./ B.Com. LL.B (H) 9th sem & LL.B/ LL.B (H) 5th sem in collaboration with District Legal Services Authority, Kamrup (M), Assam. The students were taken to Khetri, a small village in Sonapur where special guests, Mrs. Sujata Dutta, Secretary, DLSA; Dr. Neelotpol Deka, Advocate Gauhati High Court and Mr. Tridip Dutta, Officer In-charge of Khetri Police Station enlightened the students with true meaning of Legal Aid and also encouraged them to create an awareness for the same.

Further, Spandana Kalita of LL.B. 5th Sem spoke on the topic Assam Healing (Prevention of Evil) Practices Bill,2024; Hridisthita Pathak of LL.B. 5th Sem spoke on Cruelty on Women; Kasturi Chakravarty of B.A. LL.B 9th Sem spoke on Domestic Violence and Niranjan Deka of LL.B. 5th Sem spoke on the F.I.R.

Then, the students went to nearby houses to survey and created awareness among the village people. The village people shared the problems they face towards the access of legal aid the to which the students enlightened them about the access of free legal aid. They were accompanied by a few village localities who guided them for the same.

A seminar on "Privacy Concerns and Expectations of Citizens with Respect to DPDP Act 2023" was held at Don Bosco Institute of Management, Guwahati, on February 26, 2024. The aim of the seminar was to generate academic discussion regarding data privacy and citizens' concerns. The first session was conducted by Shahnawaz Khan, Principal Lead, Ecosystems - HCLTech. He discussed the DPDP Act and its impact on improving the data governance regime in India, emphasizing the rights and obligations of data principals and data fiduciaries. This was followed by a session from Dr. Mukulesh Barua, Member Secretary, SLET Commission, Assam and NE Region, who focused on the importance of research and ideation in developing privacy policies. Dr. Barua also deliberated on research methodology, specifically the importance of a mixed research approach. Lastly, Dr. Nanndi Borah from Don Bosco Institute delivered an insightful session on the importance of awareness and dialogue regarding privacy concerns of citizens. She also shared her research findings on privacy policy and citizens' concerns.

On 6th February 2024, the first ever NORTHEAST LIVE CONCLAVE 2024 was held to celebrate 6 years of glory of the very English & Hindi Satellite channel - NORTHEAST LIVE. The venue for the event was Vivanta by Taj, Guwahati.

Some students from NEF Law College attended the event comprising of 5 years B.A., LL.B(H) 9th semester; LLM 1st semester & LLM 3rd semester.

The First session was on Pressure and Politics while the Second Session was a light interactive session with Temjen Iman Along, the tourism minister of Nagaland. The third and the final session was on Vision Northeast where various CMs of the North Eastern States spoke.

The sessions conducted were multidimensional in nature and overall it was an enriching learning experience for the students.

On 8th December 2023, University Law College, Gauhati University organized a one day Extempore Moot Court at their premises as a part of their annual fest LEGULEIAN 4.0. There were around 10 teams from colleges all over Assam who had participated in the competition

Two teams had participated from the college. The two teams were
Team 1:
Phurpa lhamu (5th sem, LL.B), Naina Kowar (7th sem, B.A.,LL.B(H)) and Nilanjana Chetry (7th sem, B.A.,LL.B(H))

Team 2:
Puranjan Mahanta (5th Semester B.B.A., LL.B(H)) Farhan Masood Zaman (7th Semester B.A., LL.B(H)) and Denzel Albano Sereng (7th Semester B.A., LL.B(H))

The Team 2 comprising of Puranjan Mahanta, Farhan Masood Zaman and Denzel Albano Sereng won the Competition for which they were awarded trophy, certificates and cash awards.

The teams were supervised and guided by the Moot Court Committee of NEF Law College comprising of Mrs. Satavisa Bora, Mr. Saptarishi Prasad Sharma, Ms. Modhu Chanda Dey and Ms. Tapashree Moitra (Assistant Professors of NEF Law College). Further the teams were also helped by Dr. Pankaj Choudhary and Ms. Barkha Agarwal.

On 1st December 2023, the Freshman Social for the 5 years 1st semester B.A./ B.B.A./ B.Com.,LL.B(H) was organized by the 5 years 7th semester B.A./ B.B.A./ B.Com.,LL.B(H) students of the college.

The event was graced by Dr. Manashi Kalita, Principal In-Charge of the college and all the faculty members of the college.

The faculties in-charge of the program were Mrs. Bhaswati Borah (Cultural Forum In-Charge), Mrs. Abhilekha Kakoti, Ms. Sudarshana Roy, Ms. Pinky Bora and Mrs. Nisha Sharma (Members of Cultural Forum) who monitored the whole programme. It was an extravagant event which included a number of cultural programs by the talented students of the college.

A ramp show was also organized for the Mr. & Miss Fresher's title. The winners were Mr. Fresher - Mahmudul Hasan Bhuyan [B.A., LL.B(H)] 1st semester (Sec B) and Miss Fresher - Anamika Roy [B.Com.,LL.B(H)] 1st Semester.

The show was judged by Mr. Kailash Pawdel, Mrs. Banani Adhikari and Mrs. Deiji Kalita, Assistant Professors of NEF Law College.

On 25th November, 2023 to commemorate the Constitution Day, a team of 3 years LL.B students of NEF Law College presented a 'street play' in the Streetza campus and Children's Nehru Park. The group performed on the sprawling roots of Child Abuse in India, which are generally ignored and not confronted by the society as whole. It was meant to bring awareness to the audience regarding the contemporary issues faced by the child in the society. The play was interwined with very heart wrenching and ironic moments infused with entertainment . The programme was organised under the guidance of Dr. Manashi Kalita, Principal In-charge and Mrs. Hema Gogoi, In-charge of Women Cell.

Our Story

NEF Law College, established in the year 2006 is one of the finest centers of Legal Education of Eastern India. The College stands to fulfill the long-standing need and dream of a ‘Law college of Excellence’ in this part of the country. It is a one of a kind ‘Centre of Law Education’ set up in uniformity with other reputed National and International Law Colleges. The College runs Five Year Integrated Courses in three streams i.e. BA LLB (Hons), BBA LLB (Hons) and B Com LLB (Hons). It addition to it the College also runs Three Year LLB and Masters of Law (LL.M.) course under Gauhati University. The College is duly approved by Bar Council of India (BCI), New Delhi .

The ‘Competition Success Review (CSR)-GHRDC Law School Survey 2018' has ranked the NEF Law College as the Topmost Law School in the State of Assam and 10th Position in the category of ‘Top Law School of Excellence’ among the Law Schools in India
