The recent news of an IIT-IIM graduate and McKinsey employee’s su***de due to work pressure raises a critical question:

Who is responsible for this? ⁉ The company? 👩‍🏭 Or the individual’s inability to cope?

As Dt Anuradha Sharma, who has interacted with numerous clients over the past 12 years, these are the common factors that contribute to such situations:

👩‍💼Parental Pressure: From a young age, children are under immense pressure to excel. Parents’ desire for their children to succeed often leads to stress. Children find it hard to express their inability to cope and explore other avenues that bring them joy.

😢Workplace Stress: The pressure parents put on their children often translates into the workplace. Superiors expect their subordinates to not maintain a work-life balance, even when they themselves struggle to do so.

🥫Work-Life Imbalance: This imbalance leads to irregular eating patterns, cravings, reduced and less peaceful sleep, and no time to exercise. These can lead to depression or other health problems like obesity, diabetes, hypertension, irritable bowel syndrome, liver diseases, heart diseases, etc.

Consumerism: High-paying jobs provide the means to afford luxuries like houses, cars, and exotic travel. However, these investments can trap individuals in their jobs. If the job causes stress, they might feel that su***de is the only solution.

It’s important to maintain a healthy work-life balance and seek help when feeling overwhelmed.

Cardiac Diseases Dietitian In Kolkata | The Basic Meals 12/01/2024

How many of you did not know about the following facts?

1. India is one of the leading countries in Heart Disease. So much so that one of the Cardiologists became a billionaire. That doesn't reflect his hard work, it reflects our ignorance on the part of our health.

2. Most of the time, Heart disease is caused by diet and lifestyle factors and is avoidable.

3. High fat, sugar, calorie diet, inactivity, improper sleeping patterns, unresolved stress, lack of time management, and excess intake of processed food are major causes of heart disease.

4. Heart disease is also caused as a secondary disease to other chronic diseases like Diabetes, Kidney Failure, etc. Most of the time, the reason for getting those primary diseases is also diet and lifestyle factors.

5. Another emerging reason for heart disease is very low carbohydrate diets (less than what is required by the human body), and excessive exercise (reaching heart rate which is harmful for our Heart).

6. Indians tend to have a higher fat percentage as compared to other races.

If you think obesity causes heart disease, think again. I am sure you have seen heart patients around you who are not obese. But does that mean we should not treat obesity?

Another question, do you want to avoid heart disease or if you have one, avoid further complications? Connect with a dietitian. Prevention is better than cure.

Yes, I do agree that cardiology in India is very successful and mostly they do not let the patient die.

But a painless life is always better than popping 15 pills a day, having surgery, and experiencing side effects of those medicines now and then.
