Burkinabè Rising showcases creative nonviolent resistance in Burkina Faso. A small, landlocked country in West Africa, Burkina Faso is home to a vibrant community of artists and engaged citizens, who provide an example of the type of political change that can be achieved when people come together. It is an inspiration, not only to the rest of Africa but also to the rest of the world.

Crackle of time – Christoph Schlingensief and his Opera Village in Burkina Faso is a documentary about the development of his opera village in Burkina Faso.

Christoph Schlingensief envisaged a village with a school which held film and music classes. The village was also intended to have a medical clinic and naturally also an opera house or theatre, a banquet hall or a community centre, as he liked to call it, in addition to apartments and guest accommodation, a cantine, and even a football field.

He really wanted to bring together in one place, in one village, everything you could need in life. And the film wanted to narrate how the village grew – slowly, without any pressure, starting with the search for the ideal location, right through to its opening. At the heart of the film is Christoph Schlingensief, the artist from Germany, and Diébédo Francis Kéré, an architect and chief’s son from Burkina Faso, as well as the very people who fill the village with life.

But things turned out very differently.

Let's meet with the man who shuttles three roles exceptionally well, as a humanitarian, an author and an administrative officer (IAS) Sri Burra Venkatesham.

You are cordially invited to the book reading of his very popular and highly acclaimed book: Selfie of Success.

Write Club founder, Sravanthi Talluri will be in conversation with Sri Burra Venkatesham IAS.
