IICD, Jaipurs, is an innovative, first of its kind Institute set up by the Government of Rajasthan, to develop human resources for the craft sector. Presently it is being managed by the Ambuja Educational Institute (AEI) under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model. Human resource development for the craft sector is important because such development impacts the life and livelihood of artisans
Dr. Kingshuk Mukherjee participated in HEPHAESTUS (Heritage in EuroPe: New tecHnologies in crAft for prEServing and innovaTing fUtureS), an Itinerant Symposium on the Economy and Organization of Craft in Sweden, 2-4 May. The symposium was held in 'Röhssa Museum of Design and Craft', Gothenburg on May 2nd and in 'Open Wood', Dals Långed on May 3rd and in 'Not Quite', Fengersfors on May 4th.
Dr. Mukherjee presented a paper on May 3rd. The title of the presentation was 'A surviving folk tradition of Bengal: Kalighat Paintings (From early 19thcentury to present) -
Transformation from traditional Pattachitra to contemporary Kalighat paintings'.
The Horizon Europe project HEPHAESTUS is funded by The European Union and was organized by University of Gothenburg, Sweden in collaboration with Copenhagen Business School, Denmark.
The aim of this project is to research, preserve and, at the same time, innovate craft sectors to deliver a cutting-edge, creative, and sustainable technology-driven economy based on cultural heritage.
Indian Institute of Crafts & Design has launched its Incubation project for 2024. Clay, being one of the oldest materials used by humans, terracotta craft is one of the major contributors to unraveling the evolution of human society. Humans have used the craft of making fired clay products for their day-to-day needs set in their cultural environment. Fired Material Design course at IICD explores all those materials that require processing through high
temperatures to be formed in aesthetically pleasing functional products.

This unique craft involves the fusion of 23k gold onto a glass base, resulting in magnificent jewelry pieces. In the Pratapgarh district of Rajasthan, skilled artisans have passed down this craft through generations, preserving its legacy. Understanding customer preferences in purchasing Thewa jewelry, especially in Jaipur, is the central focus of this study. By delving into the factors shaping customer behavior, this research aims to uncover popular designs, styles, and colors among buyers. Employing purposive sampling and questionnaires, primary data is collected, complemented by secondary data from various sources. This study serves as a valuable tool for Thewa jewelry makers and retailers, offering insights into customer preferences.
This knowledge enables the creation of jewelry and accessories tailored to customer liking. Moreover, understanding consumer preferences facilitates the development of new products, improvements in existing items, enhancing overall quality, consumer satisfaction, and confidence.
