Singapore is well known for it's thriving food scene, which features a wide variety of dishes with influences from Southeast Asian cuisines such as Chinese, Malay, Indian and others. The following six dishes are a must-try while in Singapore:

Hainanese Chicken Rice: Cucumber slices, chili sauce and soy sauce are served alongside aromatic rice cooked in chicken broth with poached chicken. It is a mainstay of Singaporean cooking and is served in both fine dining establishments, and hawker centers.

Chili Crab: Known for it's spicy, acidic tomato-based chili sauce, Singapore's chili crab is made using fresh crab. It's really tasty, but messy to eat, and it's usually eaten with mantou (fried or steamed buns), so the sauce can soak up.

Laksa: A popular meal in Singapore, laksa is a spicy noodle soup with a base of coconut milk. Rice noodles, prawns, chicken, tofu puffs and bean sprouts are usually included, and all of it is covered in a spicy, savory broth that is created with a mixture of herbs and spices.

Char Kway Teow: Stir-fried noodles, egg, Chinese sausage, prawns, cockles, and bean sprouts are the ingredients of Char Kway Teow, a meal of stir-fried noodles in a dark soy sauce. This is a tasty and substantial dish that is frequently served at hawker centers.

Satay: Served with sliced cucumbers and onions, skewered and grilled meat (often chicken, beef, or lamb) is served with a side of peanut sauce. This street cuisine is quite popular in Singapore and is great as an appetizer, or as a snack.

Kaya Toast: Toasty bread pieces are covered with kaya, a sweet and creamy coconut jam, and frequently served with a slice of butter. Kaya toast is a popular breakfast and snack item in Singapore. Usually, it's served with a cup of tea or coffee and soft-boiled eggs.

These dishes represent just a glimpse of the diverse and delicious cuisine that Singapore has to offer. Be sure to explore further and try as many local specialties as possible duringΒ yourΒ visit!
