happytrips.com The 'Door to Hell' is a crater which is formed on a gas vent. Lit by soviet prospectors over 40 years back, the crater mysteriously continues to burn. Add to that the bizarre coincidence of it's proximity to 'Darvaza,' village (which literally means door) and the site has spawned all sorts of dark t…

Kolkata City Tour - Nakhoda Mosque: The Nakhoda Masjid is the principal mosque of Kolkata, India, in the Chitpur area of the Burrabazar business district in Central Kolkata, at the intersection of Zakariya Street and Rabindra Sarani. The mosque was built as an imitation of the mausoleum of Mughal Emperor Akbar at Sikandra, Agra by Kutchi Memon Jamat, a small community of Sunni Muslim community from Kutch. Abdur Rahim Osman, a leader of the Kutchi Memon Jama'at, who funded the building was a shipping prince. The mosque was named Nakhoda meaning Mariner. The foundation stone was laid on 11 September 1926. The total cost incurred for the construction was 1,500,000 Indian rupees in 1926. The mosque's prayer hall has a capacity of 10,000.The masjid has three domes and two minarets which are 151 feet high. There are an additional 25 smaller minarets which range from 100 feet to 117 feet high. The gateway is an ersatz of the Buland Darwaza at Fatehpur Sikri. For this purpose granite stones were brought from Tolepur. Inside is a superb exhibition of exquisite ornamentation and artistic extravaganza.
Kolkata City Tour - Park Street Cemetery: The Park Street Cemetery was one of the earliest non-church cemeteries in the world, and probably the largest Christian cemetery outside Europe and America in the 19th century. It is now a heritage site, protected by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). The cemetery was opened to relieve the pressure on the old burial ground in the heart of the city. The road leading to the cemetery came to be known as the Burying Ground Road but was subsequently renamed Park Street after the park around Vansittart's garden house. By the year 1785 the burial ground had been extended on the northern side of Park Street and by 1840 a vast new cemetery was opened to the east of the Lower Circular Road. The Europeans started to disuse it in the year 1790. It has been confirmed by a marble plaque at the gate which reads "South Park Street, Opened: 1767, Closed: 1790". The Notable Tombs here are:
• Rose Aylmer (died 1800)
• Elizabeth Barwell (died 1779)
• George Bogle (1746–1781), diplomat
• Lieutenant-General Sir John Clavering (c.1722-1777), army officer
• Augustus Cleveland (d. 1784), colonial administrator
• Henry Louis Vivian Derozio (1809–1831), teacher and poet
• Sir Elijah Impey (1732-1809), judge
• Sir William Jones (1746–1794), Indologist, founder of the Asiatic Society
• Colonel Robert Kyd (1746–1793), botanist
• Lieut. Col. Colin Mackenzie (1754–1821), Surveyor General of India
• Sir John Hadley D'Oyly, 6th Baronet (1754–1818), politician
• Major-General Charles Stuart (1758–1828), army officer and Indophile popularly known as "Hindoo Stuart"
Why the Airlines ticket price fluctuates?
To understand why airlines change their prices, we need to look at things from their perspective. First of all, they have to consider operating costs. The most volatile of which is oil prices - the price of oil in 2008 went from $90 to $147 to $40 a barrel. Changes in the price of crude oil lead to changes in airfare. Some airlines avoid higher prices by entering into agreements (called fuel hedging contracts) that freeze prices for a certain time, but generally higher oil prices means higher flight prices. The recent increases in oil prices will most likely trickle down to consumers.
On top of this volatility, airlines have to fill up their planes and make a profit. They do this by price segmentation, meaning that for the same flight they will charge different prices. For the early bird who books well ahead the price is low, because they are still concerned with filling the plane. As the flight date approaches, the price increases as there are less and less seats available. Airlines also know that business travelers, who often book very late (the red zone), are not concerned about the price they pay - because ultimately their employer pays. Occasionally, if it's proving difficult to fill a plane, airlines may offer cheap last-minute tickets, but this happens very rarely on busy routes. Special events that create excess demand drives the prices up. Anybody who has tried to get a flight to a sporting event or around bank holidays will have experienced this.
Another factor is the constant competition among the Airline operators. If Airline A starts a lightning sale, Airline B has to respond or risk not being able to fill their plane and cover costs. This usually leads to price wars that are great for us consumers. With many travelers choosing to book online, airlines can monitor demand by the minute. All these factors are fed into an algorithm and a computer outputs price points. Sometimes the prices change many times in a day.

The Writers' Building, often shortened to just Writers', is the secretariat building of the State Government of West Bengal in India. Today it houses the office of the Chief Minister of West Bengal. It is located in West Bengal's capital city of Kolkata.
The Writers' Building originally served as the office for writers of the British East India Company, hence the name. Designed by Thomas Lyon in 1777, the Writers' Building has gone through several extensions over the years. In 1821, 128 long verandah with ionic columns, each 32 feet high, were added on the first and second floor.
