*शारदीय नवरात्रि*
*नवरात्रि Day 9* is dedicated to *माँ सिद्धिधात्री*।

On the *9th Day* of Navaratri, also called *Maha Navami*, *माँ सिद्धिधात्री* is worshipped. She is the 9th manifestation of Devi also known as Mahishasura Mardini which she took to destroy Mahishasura. The goddess’s name is derived from *Siddhi* meaning *Supernatural Powers* and *Dhatri* meaning *giver* and she is said to bestow all kinds of knowledge upon her worshippers. She is the possessor of 26 different Siddhis and Occult Powers which she grants her worshipers. Mata blesses her devotees with wisdom and grants them spiritual knowledge. This Avtar of Maa Durga removes ignorance and provides knowledge to Her devotees. It is said, that apart from we ordinary humans, even sages and Deities also worship Devi Siddhidatri to achieve success. Maa sits on Kamal and rides on the lion. She has four hands and holds a Gada in the lower right hand, a Chakra in the upper right hand, a lotus flower in the lower left hand and a Shankha in the upper left hand.
The feminine half of Shiva in the Ardhanareshwar form is that of Goddess Siddhidatri. Maa Siddhidatri also governs the planet Ketu.
Ayudha Pooja (Shastra Pooja), the worship of weapons, also takes place on this day.

Harsiddhi Mata temple, Rangir in Sagar district, Madhya Pradesh is an ancient temple dedicated to Siddhidatri Devi.
This Temple is one of 51 Shakti Peethas where Sati Devi's thigh is said to have fallen.
Devi takes 3 forms in a day here, Kanya in morning, young lady in noon & evening form of Mother. Maa fulfills every wishes of the Devotees here.
Maha Navami is also celebrated as the victory of good over evil.

*शारदीय नवरात्रि*
*नवरात्रि Day 8* is dedicated to *माँ महागौरी*।

*माँ महागौरी*
is the *8th manifestation* of Devi. She is ardently worshipped by Maa Durga devotees on *Ashtami tithi* i.e. *8th day* of Navratri. She is believed to realize all the wishes and needs of all her devotees. The name 'Mahagauri' implies extremely white as Goddess Mahagauri is believed to be exceptionally beautiful and fair in complexion. As the legend has it, Goddess Parvati underwent harsh penance and firm devotion in order to get Lord Shiva as her husband. Due to the austerity and penance for such a long time, the body of Goddess Parvati turned black. Being pleased with the devotion, dedication, and penance of Goddess Parvati in the form of Goddess Shailputri, at the age of 16, Lord Shiva bestowed the Goddess with a fair complexion and hence she got the name of Mahagauri. She adorns white clothes and white ornaments and is known to ride a white Vrishabha (bull).
Due to her white complexion and white clothes, she is also known as Shwetambardhara. The eighth form of Maa Durga also governs the planet Rahu. The physical form of Goddess Mahagauri has four arms; the right upper arm allaying fear while the left upper arm holds a tambourine, her right lower arm holds a trident while her left lower arm is in the form of a blessing. Her ardent devotees observe a fast on Durga Ashtami or the eighth day of Navratri and worship her to seek her blessings. This day is regarded as highly significant by Durga Maa devotees as some people also end their Navratri fast on the said day.

*नवरात्रि Day 7* is dedicated to *माँ कालरात्रि*।

*माँ कालरात्रि*, another fierce manifestation of Devi, is the destroyer of ignorance & darkness. Asura named Raktabija had a boon that if any drop of blood of his fell to the ground, a clone of him would be created. When Kaalaratri attacked him, his spilt blood gave rise to several clones of him. It became impossible to defeat him, Devi drank his blood to prevent it from falling down in ground. Thus eventually killing Raktabija and Maa Chandi was able to destroy Shumbha and Nishumbha. Devi Kaalratri has a dark complexion like a dark night, open hair, wearing Narmund (human skull garland) and she mounts on a donkey with two hands showing Abhayamudra & Varadamudra and other two hands holding a sword which is curved at the end & vajra ayudha. She is the one, who has gigantic structure with a third eye on her forehead. Devotee's seek her blessings to get relief from negative influences and addictions. The Yogis and Tantriks often worship Goddess Kaalratri to get the Siddhis. They work on activating their crown chakra. Maa Kalaratri governs the planet Shani and people who are suffering from Shani dosha in their horoscope, must worship Goddess Kaalratri to get rid of Dosha.In Southern India, during last 3 days of Navratri, Devi Saraswathi is worshipped. Devi Saraswathi is worshipped from today till Vijaya Dashami.
Kaalaratri Temple is located in Kalika Gali of Varanasi.

*नवरात्रि Day 6* is dedicated to *माँ कात्यायनी*।

*माँ कात्यायनी* is worshipped on *Day 6* who is the daughter of Katyayana Muni. One of the most fierce forms of Goddess Durga is Maa Katyayani. It is in this form that took on the Demon Mahishasura and killed him. This Form of Devi has four hands in which two hands hold lotus and sword, other two hands are in the Abhayamudra Varadamudra. Planet *Brihaspati* is ruled by Maa Katyayani. The blessings of Goddess Katyayani are said to purify the sins of the devotees, drive out evil spirits and remove obstacles. Katyayani devi is worshipped to get relief from doshas relating to marriage. It is believed that Radha Rani worshipped Mata Katyayani here to get married to Shri Krishna.
It is also believed that Maa Katyayani is the Yogmaya power of Lord Vishnu. Katyayani Peeth or uma shakti peeth is one among 51 Shakti Peethas situated within Bhuteshwar Mahadev Temple, Vrindavan. It is said that, Hair of Maa Sati fell here.

*नवरात्रि Day 5* is dedicated to *माँ स्कन्दमाता*।

On *Day 5*, *माँ स्कन्दमाता* is worshipped. *माँ स्कन्दमाता* or mother of Skanda, also known as Lord Kartikeya (or Murugan in South India), rides a ferocious lion along with the baby in one of her hands. The Goddess has four hands. She holds lotus on right hand and the Abhaya Mudra in the lower right hand. She is the goddess of Vishuddhi Chakra. The colour of the day is yellow, which is a symbol of joy and optimism. It is also associated with happiness, cheerfulness and brightness. Wearing yellow on this day bestows Skandamata's blessings of joy, abundance and harmony. Skandamata Temple is located in Jaitpura,Varanasi.
Maa is said to be devi of Prosperity & Wisdom.

*नवरात्रि Day 4* is dedicated to *माँ कुष्मांडा*।

*माँ कुष्मांडा*, the fourth Avatar of Goddess Durga, is worshipped on the *4th day* of Navaratri. *कु* (a little) *उष्मा* (warmth,energy) *अंडा* (cosmic egg). Since *माँ कुष्मांडा* is considered as the creator of the universe she is called *आदिस्वरूपा* and *आदिशक्ति*. She is also known as *देवी अष्टभुजा*. She has eights hands in which she holds Kamandul, bow, arrow, a jar of Amrit, discus, mace and a lotus, and in one hand she holds a rosary which blesses her devotees with the Ashtasiddhis and Navniddhis. *माँ कुष्मांडा* is the ruler of Anahata Chakra (Heart Chakra). People who are suffering from depression, anxiety, fear and past regrets, must perform puja on this auspicious day.

Tritiya commemorates the worship of *माँ चंद्रघंटा* - the name derived from the fact that after marrying Shiva, Parvati adorned her forehead with half-chandra (lit. moon). She is the embodiment of beauty and is also symbolic of bravery. It is believed she eliminates worries, physical n mental pain. She signifies Justice & Dharma in the world. She's worshipped for peace, tranquility & prosperity.

*नवरात्रि Day 2* is dedicated to *माँ ब्रह्मचारिणी*।
*ब्रह्मचारिणी* is the second form of Goddess Durga who is considered as the Goddess of penance. Goddess Brahmacharini holds a kamandal in her left hand and a rosary in the right and she wears white saree. Goddess Bramacharini took birth as the daughter of King Himalaya known as Parvati, she then left her home and strictly penanced to get Lord Shiva as her husband. She is one of the most serene and graceful form of Goddess. She is also called as Devi Yogini and Devi Tapasvini. Devotees who worship Maa Brahmacharini, get blessed with power, strength, wisdom and knowledge.

Navratri *Day 1* is dedicated to *माता शैलपुत्री*।
*शैलपुत्री* is the first form of Goddess Durga and is considered the embodiment of purity and power. The word *‘शैल’* means ‘mountain,’ and *‘पुत्री’* means ‘daughter.’ She is said to be the rebirth of Goddess Sati, the daughter of King Daksha. The significance of worshipping Mata Shailputri lies in seeking strength and purity in one’s life.
