होली हिंदुस्तान की गहरी प्रज्ञा से उपजा हुआ त्योहार है। सभ्य मनुष्य के मन पर नैतिकता का इतना बोझ होता है कि उसका रेचन करना जरूरी है, अन्यथा वह पागल हो जाएगा। पुराण इतिहास नहीं है, वह मनुष्य के जीवन का अंतर्निहित सत्य है।हर 'आज' 'बीते कल' के खिलाफ बगावत है। वर्तमान अतीत से छुटकारे की चेष्टा करता है।हिरण्यकश्यप और प्रह्लाद दो नहीं हैं - प्रत्येक व्यक्ति के भीतर घटने वाली दो घटनाएं हैं।जब तक मन में संदेह है, हिरण्यकश्यप मौजूद है।
संदेह की क्षमता सिर्फ विध्वंस की है, सृजन की नहीं है। संदेह मिटा सकता है, बना नहीं सकता। संदेह के पास सृजनात्मक ऊर्जा नहीं है।आस्तिकता और श्रद्धा कितनी ही छोटी क्यों न हो, शक्तिशाली होती है, अग्नि सिर्फ अशुभ को जला सकती है, शुद्ध तो उसमें से कुंदन की तरह निखरकर बाहर आता है। इसीलिए आग की गोद में बैठा प्रह्लाद अनजला बच गया।
साइकोथेरेपी का अनिवार्य हिस्सा होता है मन में छिपी गंदगी की सफाई। उसके बाद ही भीतर प्रवेश हो सकता है।
उस परम विजय के दिन को हमने अपनी जीवन शैली में उत्सव की तरह शामिल कर लिया। फिर जन सामान्य ने उसमें रंगों की बौछार जोड़ दी। बड़ा सतरंगी उत्सव है। पहले अग्नि में मन का कचरा जलाओ, उसके बाद प्रेम रंग की बरसात करो। यह होली का मूल स्वरूप था। इसके पीछे मनोविज्ञान है अचेतन मन की सफाई करना। इस सफाई को पाश्चात्य मनोविज्ञान में कैथार्सिस या रेचन कहते है होली जैसे वैज्ञानिक पर्व का हम थोड़ी बुद्धिमानी से उपयोग कर सकें तो इस एक दिन में बरसों की सफाई हो सकती है।।
