🦚 Mellario’s Peacock Aigrette 🦚
An antique diamond and peacock aigrette, Mellario Dits Meller -
Rose-cut diamonds, blue, green, yellow and golden brown enamel, 18k gold, signed Mellerio dit Meller, Paris. Circa 1905.
A great connoisseur of the French art de vivre and culture, Maharaja Jagatjit Singh of Kapurthala discovered this magnificent ornament in the Mellario boutique.
It was worn by the Maharaja on his turban for the royal wedding of King Alfonso XIII and Princess Victoria Eugenia of Battenberg in Madrid, where he met his fifth wife, Anita Delgado later to be known as Maharani Prem Kaur Sahiba of Kapurthala, after their marriage. Symbolic to their initial encounter, the aigrette is now part of a private collection.

Pannajhar 🪷
A classic from the archives.
The 'jhar' which survives after the Emrald is cut, has illuminance of the gem and ombré from different layers.
The design is inspired by the neoclassical tambour embroidery done during the Napoleonic era in France. The green is offset with a touch of pink, keeping in mind Emeralds look the best with pink.
Beautifully donned by our dear patron and friend Sumiran Annamaria Kashayap

Ever so elegant Shloka Mehta 💫
Styled by her sister, Diya Mehta for the opening of NMACC.
“I decided to raid our mother’s closet and chose a saree which is around a 100 years old from a royal family in Rajasthan” - Diya Mehta
This particular design is called Pushp Jaali design which takes it’s inspiration from bed of flowers surrounded by bamboo lattice which was first made my the legendary Harishchandra of Bombay, for the royal family of Gwalior. There it caught the fancy of ladies of taste and this became a staple for many a fashionable trousseaus across Royal India. We at Shikaarbagh applaud the discerning eye of the Mehta family to preserve this heirloom which was worn by shloka Mehta for the NMACC opening ceremony.

Vogue, 1938. “A streamlined Christmas” by June Platt. Vogue considered this modernist display the flipside to the overblown ostentation of the traditional Victorian Christmas tree.
However, restraint came at a price: the fabrication of
“homemade cornucopias of shiny paper, filled with nuts & decorated with paper cut-outs, little lace bags, filled with shiny red peppermints hung here & there” was, despite the composure of this tree decorator, labor intensive.”
Maharaja Yadavindra Singh, Mahendra Bahadur, Maharaja of Patiala, circa 1938 ~ One of the many jewels worn by the Maharaja in these images is the famous Patiala necklace created by the house of Cartier.
Between 1925 and 1928, on the orders of his father, Maharaja Bhupinder Singh, most of the crown jewels of Patiala were redesigned by the firm; it was their single largest commission by any client.
The finished necklace incorporated some 2,930 diamonds, including the world’s seventh largest diamond, the 234.69 carat “De Beers”, along with seven other diamonds which ranged from 18 to 73 carats, and a few Burmese rubies. Twenty years after its completion, this amazing item seems to have disappeared. The likely story is that, over time, the more important stones were removed and sold. Eventually, the “De Beers” reappeared and was sold in 1982 for over three million dollars. The remains of the original setting were found in London in 1998, and Cartier purchased the very incomplete necklace and spent four years restoring it.
The missing stones have been replaced with carefully chosen copies.
