(ഡോ.) കെ. ജയചന്ദ്രൻ നിർവ്വഹിച്ചു. ലിനക്സ് അധിഷ്ഠിത സ്വതന്ത്ര ഓപ്പറേറ്റിംഗ് സിസ്റ്റമായ ഉബുണ്ടു 24.04 പുറത്തിറക്കിയതിന്റെ ഭാഗമായുള്ള പരിപാടിയാണ് IIRBS ഓഡിറ്റോറിയത്തിൽ വെച്ച് നടത്തിയത്. സ്വതന്ത്ര സോഫ്റ്റ്‌വെയർ അവബോധം സർവ്വകലാശാല സമൂഹത്തിലേക്ക് എത്തിക്കുക എന്നതാണ് പരിപാടി ലക്‌ഷ്യം വെച്ചത്. ചടങ്ങിൽ ഡോ. അനസ്, ജോയിന്റ് ഡയറക്ടർ, IIRBS അധ്യക്ഷത വഹിച്ചു. ഡോ. വിമൽ കുമാർ വി. ഉബുണ്ടു 24.05 സ്വതന്ത്ര ഓപ്പറേറ്റിംഗ് സിസ്റ്റത്തിന്റെ പ്രത്യേകതകൾ പരിചയപ്പെടുത്തിക്കൊണ്ടു മുഖ്യപ്രഭാഷണം നടത്തി. വിഷയത്തെ അധികരിച്ച് ചർച്ചയും നടന്നു. ഡോ. ബിജു ലാൽ, ഡയറക്ടർ, IMPSS, ലത അരവിന്ദ്, യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റി ലൈബ്രേറിയൻ, ഡോ. ഷൈനി ഗോപിനാഥ്, അസിസ്റ്റന്റ് ലൈബ്രേറിയൻ എന്നിവർ ചടങ്ങിൽ സംസാരിച്ചു.

Ubuntu 24.04 Release celebrated.

The Ubuntu Release Party organized by Mahatma Gandhi University Library, IMPSS and IIRBS inaugurated by University Registrar Prof. (Dr.) K. Jayachandran. The event was held at the IIRBS auditorium as part of the launch of Ubuntu 24.04, a Linux based Free operating system. The programme aims to bring Free Software awareness to the university community. Dr. Anas, Joint Director, IIRBS, presided over the function. Dr. Vimal Kumar V. presented the features of the Ubuntu 24.05. There was also a discussion on the topic. Dr. Biju Lal, Director, IMPSS, Lata Aravind, University Librarian, and Dr. Shiny Gopinath, Assistant Librarian, spoke on the occasion.

“In today’s context, it’s connection that matters more than collection,”- accentuates Fr. John Neelankavil, while speaking on the transformative vision he has brought to library environments. This philosophy has guided the recent successful renovation of the MGU library, which now stands as a testament to innovative design principles aimed at attracting patrons.



Fr. John, a CMI priest serving as the librarian at Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram, Bengaluru, has been instrumental in implementing creative concepts for over 90 libraries across educational institutions nationwide. With a Ph.D. in Space Management focusing on selected university libraries in South India, Fr. John has been actively involved in shaping modern library spaces since 2003.



In the contemporary context, the focus should shift from merely accumulating books and shelves to crafting inviting and comfortable environments that foster sustained engagement with knowledge. Fr. John underscores the importance of recognising libraries as fertile grounds for cultivating ideas, advocating for their prioritised development.



The newly revitalised atmosphere at the MGU library is anticipated to attract more students, according to Fr. John. This sentiment was echoed during an academic audit programme held to evaluate current library facilities and solicit suggestions for further improvement.



During the event, Vice-Chancellor Dr. C.T. Aravindakumar extended honours to Fr. John and architect Ajith Jose Kurian. Syndicate members Dr. Biju Pushpan and Dr. A. Jose, Exam Controller Dr. C.M. Sreejit, IQAC Director Dr. Robinet Jacob, Dr. Beena Mathew, Senate member M.S. Suresh, and representatives Latha Aravind, C.T. Sunny, and Siju Jose also contributed their remarks.

Academic Audit : Renovated University Library, Dated : 05.04.2024

University Library Renovation - Academic Audit on April 5,2024

The University Library will be undergoing a comprehensive academic audit to assess its effectiveness in supporting the academic needs of our faculty and students with special regard to recent renovation taken place in our University Library. This audit is a valuable opportunity to evaluate the newly renovated university library's strengths and weaknesses, and to identify areas for improvement.

The academic audit is on 5th April 2024, 11 AM at Infinity Hall, University Library in the presence of Prof. (Dr.) C T Aravindkumar Hon. Vice Chancellor. During this meeting, we will discuss the newly renovated library's services and facilities, shortcomings in the present structure, suggestions for the future expansion etc.

All are cordially invited to this program and this will be vital in shaping the future of the University Library.

About the workshop

This workshop will empower the researcher to systematically identify, capture, organise, and use the scholarly literature. The researchers will also be able to learn how to properly manage the numerous PDF files they already have and how to add notes and annotations to them. Further, it will also provide insights about how to use its bibliographical information to generate the references/citations and insert them in MSWord / Open Office during the paper/thesis writing process in the required citation style.

Workshop Components:

– Installation and customisation of reference software Zotero.

– Capturing and organising references/citations and full text.

– Managing literature, including notes and annotations

– Referencing/citation – styles

– Integration with Word Processor for citing and generating bibliography

Internship Programme for Advanced Certificate in Digital Library Applications

VuFind.org, USA and HealthNet, Nepal, in association with Mahatmatma Gandhi University Library, organise an internship programme for participants of the Advanced Certificate in Digital Library Applications (ACDLA) programme. VuFind is an Open Source library search engine project initiated by Villanova University, USA. HealthNet Nepal is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) that serves the Nepalese health community by providing affordable Internet service, access to health information, and technical support for several regional information-sharing initiatives. This programme aims to provide practical experience and enhance the theoretical knowledge gained by the participants.

To provide ACDLA participants with hands-on experience in various aspects of digital library applications (Koha ILS, WordPress, DSpace, VuFind, Subject Plus).
To bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application of digital library skills.
To contribute to the professional development of librarians and equip them with skills relevant to the evolving library landscape.
To foster collaboration between the Mahatma Gandhi University Library and the ACDLA programme.
To share knowledge and skillsets amongst Mahatma Gandhi University Library professionals and other academic institutions.

ACDLA programme participants and Library professionals at Mahatma Gandhi University Library.
Library professionals at other institutions can join the add-on workshops during the internship program by paying the registration fee.

Internship activities:

Koha is a Free and Open Source Integrated Library Management System (ILMS) that includes Acquisition, Cataloguing, Circulation, Serials control & Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) with many other advanced features. Koha supports international library standards and protocols, which ensures interoperability between Koha and other software & tools in library services. It supports bibliographic data standards (MARC 21 Format for Bibliographic Data, UNIMARC), authority data standards (MARC 21 Format for Authority Data), the bibliographic data model (FRBRized editions), distributed cataloguing (Z39.50 client & server), protocols to support RFID integration, and seamlessly compliant with Unicode, Web 2.0, REST, ILS-DI etc. The software is fully customisable and includes all modules generally expected in any standard fourth-generation library management system.
