എനിക്ക് ആറു വയസ്സുള്ളപ്പോള്‍ ഞാന്‍ ഒരു പ്രൈമറി സ്കൂള്‍ വിദ്യാര്‍ഥി ആയിരുന്നു.
ഒരു ദിവസം എന്റെ അദ്ധ്യാപകന്‍ ഗോപാല പിള്ള സാര്‍ ക്ലാസ്സില്‍ വന്നു.
''ക്രിസ്ത്യാനികള്‍ എല്ലാം എണീറ്റ് നില്‍ക്കട്ടെ '' എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു
അപ്പോള്‍ പീറ്റര്‍ എണീക്കുന്നത് കണ്ട് ഞാനും എണീറ്റ് നിന്നു . ക്രിസ്ത്യാനി എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞാല്‍ ആരാണെന്ന് എനിക്ക് അറിവില്ലായിരുന്നു.
ഞാന്‍ ഏറ്റവും സ്നേഹിച്ചിരുന്നത് പീറ്ററിനെയാണ്'.
അതുകൊണ്ടാണ് ഞാന്‍ അവനൊപ്പം എണീറ്റത് .
എന്നാല്‍ ഗോപാല പിള്ള സാര്‍ അല്പം പരുഷമായി എന്നെ നോക്കിയിട്ട് ഇരിക്കാന്‍ പറഞ്ഞു.
കാര്യം മനസിലാകാതെ ഞാന്‍ ബെഞ്ചില്‍ ഇരുന്നു.
പിന്നെ അദ്ധേഹം '' മുസ്ലിങ്ങള്‍ എണീറ്റ് നില്ക്കൂ '' എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു. അപ്പോഴും ഞാന്‍ എണീറ്റ് നിന്നു. സുലൈമാന്‍കുട്ടിയും , മീരാന്‍കുട്ടിയും എണീറ്റത് കൊണ്ടാണ് ഞാനും എണീറ്റ് നിന്നത്.
എന്റെ പേരിന്റെ കൂടെയും 'കുട്ടിയെന്ന്' ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു .
ഇപ്രാവിശ്യം ഗോപാല പിള്ള സാർ ശരിക്കും ക്രൂദ്ധനായി എന്നോട് കടുപ്പിച്ച് പറഞ്ഞു
'ഇരിക്കടാ അവിടെ '.
"ഇനി ഹിന്ദുക്കള്‍ എണീക്കട്ടെ..''
സാറ് ആജ്ഞാപിച്ചു. ഒരിക്കല്‍ കു‌ടി മണ്ടനാകെണ്ടെന്ന് കരുതി ഞാന്‍ എണീറ്റില്ല. അപ്പോള്‍ അലറിക്കൊണ്ട്‌ ഗോപാല പിള്ള സാര്‍ പറഞ്ഞു ''എണീക്കെടാ കഴുതേ - നീ ഹിന്ദുവാണ് '' ഞാന്‍ എണീറ്റ് നിന്നു.
അങ്ങിനെ ഞാൻ ഹിന്ദുവായി, ഒപ്പം കഴുതയും.
