Hope you are doing well, Here we are to tell you about a new technology called "Artificial Compound Eye"
Flies are fast-reacting creatures and can sense movement quickly. Researchers have now used flies as their inspiration by developing an artificial insect-inspired compound eye that can sense a moving object and its trajectory with astonishing speed.

The development can be used with a camera for applications like the creation of 3D location systems for robots, self-driving cars, and unmanned aerial vehicles. "Imitating the vision system of insects has led us to believe that they might detect the trajectory of an object based on the light intensity coming from that object rather than using precise images like human vision," said Le Song, a member of the research team from Tianjin University in China. "This motion-detection method requires less information, allowing the insect to quickly react to a threat."
The units of a compound eye act as a visual receptor are repeated hundreds to a thousand times—these units are called ‘ommatidia’.
"This uniform light-receiving ability of our bio-inspired compound eye is more similar to biological compound eyes and better imitates the biological mechanism than previous attempts at replicating a compound eye," explained Song.

Engineer'19 presents tech thursday!

Who doesn't like peacefully in a cold place in burning summers ,but what if you could do it without keeping your Air Coolers on and that too for a long period of time?.. Just surround yourself with nearly perfect insulation material such as aerogel.

An aerogel is a material that’s full of tiny holes. Made by extracting all the liquid from a gel, it can be up to 95 per cent pores. Those pores are so small – between 20 and 50 nanometres – that gas molecules can’t squeeze through them. As a result, aerogels can’t transport heat, making for a material with incredible insulating properties.

The unusual electrical properties of aerogels also make them suitable as lightweight antennae for mobile phones, satellites and aircraft.

Hello folks,
Here we are with yet another mind blowing technology 'An e-skin'

An organic circuit 10 times thinner than a human skin cell, lighter than a feather, and that can be worn on the skin like an electronic tattoo.

Electronic skin is a temperature and pressure sensitive, thin, electronic material that mimics human skin. Just like human skin, it can stretch and also heal itself. It uses stretchable solar cells developed by a Stanford team in February 2011 for power with an accordion-like microstructure that lets them stretch up to 30% without any damage. The e-skin also contains biological and chemical sensors along with pressure sensors. It sticks to the skin because of Van der Waals forces which are based on the attraction between molecules, rather than adhesives.

The e-skin was made by embedding sensors on a thin film and then placing the film on a polyester backing, just like the one used in temporary tattoos. In July 2013, another team at the University of California, Berkeley was able to create an e-skin that lights up when touched and gets brighter as the pressure increases. Among the potential applications of the e-skin are being able to monitor the vitals of a patient. Others are a robot that will be able to detect disease or intoxication in a human and a video that can be played on the back of your hand.
