This event provided her with a global platform to showcase the rich cultural heritage of Patachitra art and engage with an international audience.

Originating from Bengal and Odisha, Patachitra has been a cherished part of our cultural heritage for centuries. Before television, Patachitra artists captivated audiences door-to-door with their vibrant scroll paintings and mesmerizing Pater Gaan performances. Using organic colors derived from nature, these artisans continue to preserve tradition while adapting to modern times.
Today, they create a diverse range of products and use their craft to shed light on social issues, keeping this rich tradition alive and relevant.
পটের গান : বেহুলা মনসামঙ্গল
এই পটকাহিনীতে চাঁদ সদাগর ও মনসার কাহিনী বর্ণিত হয়েছে। এইখানে ভারতীয় নারীত্বের এক ধারক-চরিত্র বেহুলার প্রসঙ্গ অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করছে। কাহিনী শুরু হচ্ছে বণিক চাঁদ সদাগরের সঙ্গে সর্পদেবী মনসার দ্বন্দ্ব দিয়ে, এবং কাহিনীর শেষে সেই চাঁদ মনসার একনিষ্ঠ ভক্ত হয়ে উঠছেন। চাঁদসদাগর ছিলেন শিবের উপাসক। কিন্তু মনসাদেবী চাইতেন যে চাঁদ তাঁরও অর্চনা করুক। কিন্তু চাঁদ মনসাকে দেবী হিসেবে গণ্য করতেও অস্বীকার করলেন। চাঁদের সাত পুত্র ছিলো, তাঁদের মধ্যে ছয়জনের বিবাহ সম্পন্ন হয়েছিলো। ক্রুদ্ধ মনসার মনে প্রতিশোধ স্পৃহা জেগে উঠলো। তিনি সিদ্ধান্ত নিলেন যে সেই সাত পুত্রের প্রাণনাশ করবেন। চাঁদের সপ্তম পুত্র লখীন্দরের বিবাহ হয় সায়বেন বণিকের কন্যা বেহুলার সঙ্গে। বিয়ের রাত্রে লৌহবাসরে লখীন্দর সর্পদ্রংষ্ট হলেন। নববধূ বেহুলে প্রতিজ্ঞাবদ্ধ হলেন লখীন্দর ও তাঁর ছয় ভাইয়ের পুনর্জীবিত করে তুলবেন। তাঁর চরিত্রবল, সাহস এবং গভীর ভক্তির সামনে সর্পদেবী নতিস্বীকার করলেন। জীবন ফিরে পেলো চাঁদের সাত পুত্র।

Sayera has established herself as one of the leading artists of Patachitra, a visual storytelling tradition accompanied by Songs. Sayera has exhibited her exquisite paintings and enthralled audiences with her captivating performances of Pater Gaan in various cities across India. From Delhi to Mumbai, Chennai, Goa, and even the enchanting landscapes of Kashmir, Sayera has left an indelible mark with her artistry.
Sayera Chitrakar has been honored with a district award for her extraordinary contribution to the world of Patachitra. Now, for the first time ever, Sayera Chitrakar is taking her artistry beyond national borders, as she will demonstrate and represent the rich cultural heritage of Patachitra on an international stage.
From June 12th to June 15th, 2023, Bama Prasad will be performing at An International Seminar and Festival of Nusantara Oral Traditions (LISAN XII) at Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM), Jakarta. The seminar is being organised by the Association of Oral Traditions (ATL) in cooperation with the Local Government of Jakarta and The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology.
This international visit is supported by the Rural Craft and Cultural Hubs project of the Department of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises and Textiles, Government of West Bengal and UNESCO, New Delhi.
An International Seminar and Festival of Nusantara Oral Traditions (LISAN XII) is being organised by the Association of Oral Traditions (ATL) in cooperation with the Local Government of Jakarta and The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology at Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM), Jakarta from June 12 to June 15, 2023. The seminar will focus on "Oral Traditions Through Pandemic, Conflicts, and Latest Post-Pandemic Technologies in Caring for Nature and Life".
During the seminar, there will be cultural demonstrations where the Patachira artist Sayera Chitrakar from Chandipur, East Medinipur, will showcase her Patachitra work and perform the Pater Gaan. Additionally, Atahar Fakir from Nadia, West Bengal and Bama Prasad Singha from Birbhum, West Bengal, will present Baul songs.
Artist participation is supported under the Rural Craft and Cultural Hub Project of the Department of MSME&T of Government of West Bengal and UNESCO.
From September 7th to 28th the artists from Purba and Paschim Medinipur are coming to Banglar Tanter Haat in Central Park, Mela Ground, Karunamoyee, Bidhannagar, Kolkata to represent their Cultural Heritage by demonstrating the process of making Patachitra and provide an immersive experience to the visitors at Khadi Theme Pavilion. Apart from that, the visitors will get an opportunity to explore a variety of handmade products and purchase directly from the artists.
From 7th to 17th September meet Jaba Chitrakar (8509477383)and from Pingla and From September 18-28 Bablu Chitrakar (9775536559) from Chandipur, who are coming with their experiential journey of making Patachitras and authentic products.

Patachitra: Where colours and Songs Meld
Patachitra is a unique folk tradition of visual storytelling accompanied by songs. In Patachitra, stories are painted as frames on long scrolls and the Patuas gradually unfurl them while presenting the story through their songs.
