Community Services:
o Enormously engaged in patient’s care as approximately 10 – 12,000 patients
visit the OPD per month from the neighbouring 9 states and this is the
single largest OPD in the country, eventually benefiting all across the
society
o Striving to prevent Diabetes in Chandigarh, the national capital of
diabetes for the last 12 years, through door-to-door survey, awareness camps
and workshops, this has eventually led to a decreased in new onset diabetes
o Established 1st ‘DIABETIC FOOT” Clinic in INDIA (2010), which
immensely has provided a relief to thousands of patients with diabetic foot
by preventing LEG AMPUTATIONS
o Innovated STEM CELL THERAPY in patients with diabetes for the first
time in the World, heading towards the CURE of diabetes, and this may
prove beneficial to the society in future. o Established “ADITI” (Association of Diabetes in TRICITY, 2012)
foundation for awareness of diabetes in children, free delivery of insulin
and diabetes education program, leading to improved control of diabetes
and prevention of complications in these children. o Annual Marathon for awareness about diabetes on World Diabetes Day
since 2000. o Initiated School Health Program since 2010 to curb obesity and prevent
diabetes in adolescents, which has resulted in reduced intake of junk food
and increased physical activity among the children. o Discovered Iron deficiency rather than iodine deficiency as the cause of
“GOITRE” in children, surveyed among the Chandigarh population (10,000
children, 2010), which strengthened the initiation of Iron supplementation
program in school-going children as a government health policy. o Chandigarh Urban Bone Study (CUBES) was initiated in 2014 to assess the
burden of osteoporosis in the elderly population, and eventually preventing
the occurrence of fractures. o Established the Growth Chart for Indian children aged between 5-18 years in
2007, which is now considered as a gold standard for the assessment of
height and weight for the Indian population.
