Gone unnoticed but even though Celebrate and make a commitment for more Greener n Clean Sri Amritsar!
In 1577,On Haarh Vadi 13, Sri Ramdas ji laid the foundation of the city of Amritsar. It was known as Chak Ramdas and later became popular as Amritsar. This city has shaped the history, culture, and life of all South Asians. This is where a light of freedom spread during the Mughal times and also during the Colonial times. The city is visited by over 100,000 people of all faiths from all over the world every day. Every longs for and daily prays for Ishnan of Amritsar.
This is facing tremendous challenges. Air is polluted, water table is going down and green space has decreased significantly. Natural habitat is negligible. It is our collective responsibility to make sure that the dwindling natural resources like water is used and handled with care. We all need to make sure that the city becomes sustainable and eco-friendly and its glory survives for generations to come!
Make a commitment to waste less water!
Make a commitment to use transportation which causes less pollution!
Make a commitment to plant trees and spread greenery!
Be committed to create awareness and to engage every citizen and admirer of Amritsar to join.

The Harsahahi or mool pothi (first written book) is claimed to be the one carried by Siri Guru Nanak Sahib and then passed on to subsequent Sikh Gurus till the fourth Guru Sahib. It then fell into the hands of Pirthi Chand who refused to share it with his younger brother Siri Guru Arjan Sahib.
The descendants of Pirthi Chand were from then on referred to by Sikhs as meenas - meaning charlatans or scoundrels as they had set up a fake shop as the false guru. They settled in Guruharsahai village (near Ferozepore) and hence the pothi is referred to as Harsahai pothi. It had 3 parts bound into one volume with baanis upto third Guru Sahib and some Bhagat bani. It was passed along the Harsahai family that also claimed to have a maalaa (necklace), and padam (shell) dating back to the first Sikh Guru (there is no independent authentication of this claim).
I remember as a kid once looking at the pothi since Jaswant Singh Sodhi was my father's Nanaji. In the 1960s Giani Gurditt Singh came to examine the pothi and tore a few pages from it as Jaswant Singh Sodhi went to the restroom (as per my Chachaji). In 1970, the pothi was stolen in a train robbery while Jaswant Singh Sodhi and his wife Harbans Kaur (daugther of Baba Khem Singh Bedi) were travelling from Faridabad to Ferozepore. The thief probably thought the decaying manuscript was money and once saw it probably threw it away. Jaswant Singh Sodhi died in 1971.
When later Giani Ditt Singh published his book "Sikhan di Bhagatmala", he included several photos of this pothi and copies of the pages he stole from the pothi. These are the only surviving evidence of this mool pothi. I have reproduced below photos from this pothi from the published book.
Caution: Jawant Singh Sodhi referred to himself as guru and was referred to Guru Jaswant Singh Sodhi and is still referred to as Guru Sahib. This is highly objectionable for Sikhs.

*International Nurses' Day* marking birth-anniversary of Florence Nightingale.
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
International Nurses' Day is celebrated on 12th May every year across the world to recognise and praise the contributions of nurses to protect the patients even in unfavourable circumstances.
This date was chosen to commemorate the birth event of Florence Nightingale, social reformer, British nurse & foundational philosopher of modern nursing, was born on 12th May,1820 in Florence,Italy in an era when middle class women were expected to simply make marriage and to raise a family.
On reaching the age of 16,it was clear to her that the nursing was her calling and divine purpose. During Crimean War (1954-56), she, alongwith other 34 nurses, improved the unsanitary conditions of a British base Hospital reducing the death count. Her night rounds to aid the wounded , established her image as "The Lady With The Lamp".
She died on 13th Aug,1910 in London. No doubt, she was the mother of modern nursing, but her greatest achievement was to transform nursing into a respectful profession for women for which she will be revered for ever.

It all started when Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata bought a ten-acre piece of marshy land from the Nagpur king and set up Empress Mills in 1877.
Jamsetji did not want his employees to work in the squalid conditions that he had seen in Lancashire’s cotton mills. So, at Empress Mills, he ensured proper ventilation and had an apparatus installed for humidifying air. Sprinklers were installed to reduce damage by accidental fires.
He also set up a provident fund scheme, the first of its kind in India, and an accident compensation fund. The Tatas (under JRD Tata) would go on to be the first employers in India to introduce the 8-hour working day (1912), free medical aid (1915), and workmen's accident compensation schemes, which were later, adopted as statutory requirements in India.
