Retinal detachment is a dreaded eye complication that can lead to sudden blindness. It’s a medical emergency where immediate surgery can help in preserving and restoring vision. We are honoured that patients across the globe trust us with their eyes. Sharing a good surgical outcome for one such happy patient from the United States, operated for retinal detachment at our centre (posted with the patient’s consent).
The warning signs for retinal detachment include eye floaters, flashes of light, decreased vision or the sensation of a curtain falling in front of the eye. If you have risk factors for a detachment such as a high glass power, similar problems in a family member, diabetes or any of the above complaints get a retina check up done at the earliest.

Diabetes is a silent killer of the eye as it causes ‘diabetic retinopathy’, with most patients experiencing no symptoms until advanced damage sets in. Routine screening becomes essential to avoid needless blindness.

Conjunctivitis or pink eye is on the rise this season, if you’re suffering from the symptoms listed below follow a few simple precautions to prevent the spread to your near and dear ones:
Wash your hands frequently
Sanitize commonly touched surfaces such as door handles etc
Don’t share personal items such as napkins, pillows etc.
Don’t use cosmetics or contact lenses
Wear dark glasses if you’re experiencing light sensitivity
Don’t self medicate, consult an eye specialist

Grateful to receive such an encouraging note from our patient.
She has an age related retinal problem in both eyes called wet age related macular degeneration (ARMD) or choroidal neovascular membrane (CNVM). This needs treatment with multiple retinal (intravitreal anti-VEGF) injections, a process which can be quite troublesome for patients. We are glad we could make this procedure more pleasant for our patient.

Endophthalmitis is a severe reaction / infection that can rarely occur following cataract surgery. This complication is an eye emergency and can be efficiently managed if treated on time. I will be speaking on the management of this complication.
Go to your retina specialist / ophthalmologist for an eye check up immediately incase of pain, redness, decreased vision or eye swelling following cataract surgery
