Conducted training for RCI professionals on a topic that is very dear to me ' Why cognitive approach is equally important in Autism?'.
There are few myths I would like to discuss through this post -
👉🏼ABA or any behaviour therapy cannot be a substitute for Remedial Therapy provided by a Special Educator.
👉🏼Remedial Early Intervention is highly recommended
👉🏼Parents should be guided by all professionals to start Remedial Therapy when the child enters a preschool(around 3- 3.5yrs) and not to wait post 5 years or development of speech or a perfect sitting tolerance.
'Autism and Special Education'
A story of hope and perseverance.💫💫💫
Activity- Read and colour
About the child - 7year old, selective mutism.
Mother's feedback on a home assignment. "Very reluctant to colour the sun orange. He said it's yellow".😃
As an educator I am very proud of the verbalisation of his observation and his honesty made me laugh too.
Otherwise it's hard to extract verbal answers from him😃😃
By the way we are still not sure if he knows all 26 letters so I decided to move forward by testing his comprehension skills and this is how he is surprising us. So proud!!💫
Life is full of surprises and I experience the same while working with my children in the Spectrum..They are full of surprises too.😮😮😮😮
As an educator never give up because of things they can't do now, try exploring and exposing them to new areas.
If there is onething we always have is Hope.😊
'Autism and Special Education'
To my eyes this is not just a drawing but a sign of Independence and thinking and the most vital sign of *self expression*.
This is *precious*.💫💫💫💫💛💛
Mother wanted him to draw a spider instead he chose to draw a face and this was his first time Independent work. The proportion ,the placement is just so perfect.
"Autism and Special Education"
Concept - Time of the day.
Objective- The child should be able to state the time of the day based on the position of the sun.
Method: Pictures + Experiential Learning
Draw pictures, help your child understand that suns position changes throughout the day. Compound it with Experiential learning and Internalization of the concept becomes easy and fun!!
One of my favourite pictures!
I find peace and joy whenever I look at it.. This picture is a reminder that hardwork, hope and perseverance always pays off.
It speaks volumes about the journey of a mother with her 13-year old Neurodiverse son..
Mother's message:
"Just sharing a picture of him writing on the whiteboard. I can't tell you how happy I am to see him write confidently . This same activity used to be very difficult for him 3 months back.
The phonics part whenever he says a sound it is like music to my ears because I had waited for years to hear him speak and now he is in matter of seconds able to say the sounds without a prompt that is indeed an achievement for us.❤️❤️"
When one works with the Neurodiverse population, and specially Autism, one can feel and celebrate the joy of every word in the mother's message.Isn't it?
Let's start celebrating not only the big achievements of our lives but even the tiniest ones...
&SpecialEducation
A must use mnemonics to help remember Roman Numerals!!
For the first part of my week started with attending Intensive training on practices of NEP 2020 from the lens of a Special Educator. It talks about Inclusion and Equity in Education*.. Very hopeful to see our schools and society becoming truly Inclusive.
'Autism and Special Education'
The journey of reading the book ' A Very Hungry Caterpillar' started 3years ago but the educator and her student still share the same enthusiasm for the book.🐛❤️
The huge achievement is, earlier I narrated the story and now it's my student.. 💛
How I wish I could capture these precious moments to share how beautifully he narrates the story!!
What worked with this child?
As I always say-Early intervention ,parental training and guidance and super committed mother💫
'Autism and Special Education'
This young fellow and his work fills my heart with joy everytime that I see his work.
It's hard to believe few months ago when we started consistently writing all A-Z 's correct all the time was a challenge, to this day when he is so excited to draw and then self motivated to describe the picture.
What worked for Remediation?
Giving him opportunity to express without any rules of a perfect drawing. Just pure self expression.
Working on his Perception skills.
Once his passion was discovered it was easy to work with him and also to teach concepts.
Also what worked in this case was an extremely supportive mother who is determined to work with him almost like a therapist.
'Autism and Special Education'
Guess the rhyme?
'Autism and Special Education'
Learning generalization of shapes followed by descriptive writing.

As this year comes to an end, I have the book 'The Reason I Jump' in my hand and as I read it I discover something new about my self.
I always thought that I am an intutive educator but now I am getting to understand that one of my strengths is being emotional and that helps me understand my students better.
The more I reflect on how my current year went, the more I clearly see that my first love is working with and for Neurodiverse children. Also when I go through my work I can see that it revolves mainly around Autism.
I am very proud and at the same time very happy to share that this year we created multiple short and long term courses to empower therpaists and parents working with children in the spectrum.
2024 is going to be a new year and I can already feel a wish shaping up in my heart to transform the Remediation Experience for a Neurodiverse child.
Looking forward for 2024!!
Wishing everyone a very Happy New Year!!✨️✨️
Excerpt from a book 'The Reason I Jump'.
Such a vital thing to keep in mind when we Neurotypicals work with Neurodiverse..
Topic: Types of Triangles
Working with a child in
Grade - 6
Diagnosis - Learning Disabilities.
I had already practiced teaching him types of triangles in details once and he got it then but somehow Retention looked difficult.
Then I devised this plan and thought of clubbing angles and triangles explanation on the same page.
I was surprised to see that he volunteered to draw Right angled triangle for me , with no prompts.
He also found two stickers of an equilateral triangle and a right angled triangle.
Really happy to see the INTERNALIZATION happening for him.
Next Step: He will get this sheet color printed and laminated for future reference.
Incase you need pdf of the same feel free to leave a message on WhatsApp.
Our New Initiative!!✨️✨️✨️
For parents and professionals who like to learn at their own pace.

the right seed !! Thankyou dear participants for attending!!
Autism and Special Education
My heart swells with joy when at the end of the day my WhatsApp messages are filled with such beautiful updates from amazing parents on the assigned homeprogram.
A parents role in Remedial Therapy is equally important. A good partnership between parents and Special Educator can expedite the effect of therapy.
