Cervical cancer occurs in the cells of the cervix — the lower part of the uterus that connects to the vagina.
Various strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV), a sexually transmitted infection, play a role in causing most cervical cancer.
When exposed to HPV, the body's immune system typically prevents the virus from harming.
You can reduce your risk of developing cervical cancer by having screening tests and receiving a vaccine that protects against HPV infection.
There’s more than one kind of cervical cancer.
Squamous cell carcinoma. This forms in the lining of your cervix. It’s found in up to 90% of cases.
Adenocarcinoma. This forms in the cells that produce mucus.
Mixed carcinoma. This has features of the two other types.

1) Myth: You need a Pap test every year. Fact: If your Pap test and HPV test are both normal then there is no need to get a Pap test every year. There are some cervical cancer guidelines for women who have gone for Pap and HPV test previously with normal test results:Ages 21-29: Pap test every three yearsAges 30-64: Pap test and HPV test every five yearsAges 65 and older: Consult your doctor about whether you need to continue for any test or not. 2) Myth: HPV is not common, and it only affects people who have multiple partners, so I should not worry about the HPV vaccine or Pap test.Fact: HPV infection is widespread, it affects 80% of men and women approximately. 3 Myth: HPV infection gets clear from the body on its own.Fact: In a few cases, HPV infection clears up on its own without ever knowing they were exposed. However, the infection can persist and can lead to serious health problems such as genital warts and many types of cancer. Myth 1: Only sun exposure causes skin cancer. Sun exposure is the primary cause of skin cancer, but there are other causes like UV radiation exposure, family history, and increasing age. Myth 2: When it comes to sunscreen, the higher the SPF the betterSPF protection doesn’t increase proportionately with the designated SPF number. SPF 30 absorbs 97% of the sun’s burning UV rays, while SPF 50 absorbs just slightly more – 98%. A higher SPF does give you a little extra protection, but it's still not a perfect block. Your best protection is to stay out of the sun, especially between the peak hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., and to wear protective clothing if you have to be in the sun. Myth 3: We need sun exposure to get vitamin D. You get enough of this essential nutrient from typical daily exposure and from food. Skin cancer — the abnormal growth of skin cells — most often develops on skin exposed to the sun. But this common form of cancer can also occur on areas of your skin not ordinarily exposed to sunlight. There are three major types of skin cancer — basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma.Skin cancer begins in your skin's top layer — the epidermis. The epidermis is a thin layer that provides a protective cover of skin cells that your body continually sheds. The epidermis contains three main types of cells:Squamous cells lie just below the outer surface and function as the skin's inner lining.Basal cells, which produce new skin cells, sit beneath the squamous cells.Melanocytes — which produce melanin, the pigment that gives skin its normal color — are located in the lower part of your epidermis. Melanocytes produce more melanin when you're in the sun to help protect the deeper layers of your skin. For appointments: +91 93071 89964.For queries: [email protected]#oncology #cancer #oncologia #cancerawareness #health #cancersurvivor #breastcancer #chemotherapy #cancercare #medicine #cancertreatment #cancersucks #healthcare #cancerfighter #cancermyths #reelsofinstagram #reelitfeelit

Radiation therapy uses high-energy waves to destroy or damage cancer cells. These waves may be x-rays, gamma rays, electron beams, or protons. Radiation works by breaking the DNA in cancer cells which helps keep them from growing and can cause them to die.People getting external beam radiation do not have radiation in their bodies and are not radioactive. People getting internal and systemic radiation can give off radiation for a short time. With internal radiation, you may need to avoid touching the patient until the implant is removed or limit the time you spend very close to them. With systemic radiation therapy, you may also have to avoid the person's bodily fluids for a few days after treatment. For appointments: +91 93071 89964.For queries: [email protected]#oncology #cancer #oncologia #cancerawareness #health #cancersurvivor #breastcancer #chemotherapy #cancercare #medicine #cancertreatment #cancersucks #healthcare #cancerfighter #cancermyths
You probably know that breastfeeding can give your baby a healthy start. But that’s not the only health benefit. In addition to lowering a mother’s risk for type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure, breastfeeding can also lower a mother’s risk of breast and ovarian cancers. How does breastfeeding lower the risk of breast and ovarian cancers? One reason may be that when a woman is breastfeeding, she experiences hormonal changes that may delay the return of her menstrual periods. This reduces her lifetime exposure to hormones such as estrogen, which are linked to an increased risk of breast and ovarian cancers. For appointments : +91 93071 89964.
