World Hepatitis Day is observed each year on 28 July to raise awareness of viral hepatitis, which causes inflammation of the liver that leads to severe disease and liver cancer.
Globally, most people who need treatment have not been treated, largely due to a lack of awareness, and access to hepatitis treatment services.
Over 90% of people with hepatitis C can be completely cured of the virus within 3–6 months.
Appropriate treatment of hepatitis B and C can prevent the development of the major life-threatening complications of chronic liver disease: cirrhosis and liver cancer.

Nothing says summer like basking in the sun—but this quintessential seasonal activity could be putting your eyes at risk. The sun brings outdoor fun but also damaging ultraviolet (UV) rays. To help educate adults and teens about the risks of UV rays, each July we recognize UV Safety Awareness Month.

Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation is the leading cause of skin cancer. There are 2 types of UV radiation:
1) Ultraviolet A (UVA). UVA radiation can pass through glass. Research suggests that it may:
Cause premature aging and wrinkling of the skin
Play a role in causing basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma
2) Ultraviolet B (UVB). UVB does not pass through car windows or other types of glass. UVB radiation:
Is more closely linked with the development of skin cancer and melanoma
Causes sunburn
It is important to protect your skin from both UVA and UVB radiation.

Most sarcomas do not have known causes. The following factors may raise a person’s risk of developing sarcoma:
Previous radiation therapy. People who were treated with radiation therapy for a previous cancer, usually more than 5 years ago, have a slightly increased risk of later developing sarcoma in the area where the radiation was directed.
Genetics. People with certain inherited diseases have a higher risk of sarcoma. These diseases include neurofibromatosis type 1, also known as von Recklinghausen’s disease; familial adenomatous polyposis, also known as Gardner syndrome; Werner syndrome; tuberous sclerosis complex; nevoid basal cell carcinoma syndrome; Li-Fraumeni syndrome; and retinoblastoma.
Immune system abnormalities. People with problems with their immune system have a higher risk of several types of cancer, whether from infections such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), cancers such as chronic lymphocytic leukemia, or autoimmune conditions such as lupus or psoriasis.
Lymphedema. People who have surgery or radiation therapy for other reasons may have swelling of an arm, leg, or other part of the body as a side effect of the treatment. This is called lymphedema. For example, lymphedema can happen after breast surgery when lymph nodes are removed from the armpit area. People can also be born with lymphedema. Sarcomas, such as angiosarcoma, occasionally form in areas where lymphedema had developed.

When a bone tumor grows, it presses on healthy bone tissue and can destroy it, which causes the following symptoms:
Pain. The earliest symptoms of bone sarcoma are pain and swelling where the tumor is located. Most bone sarcomas in children appear around the knees and can be misdiagnosed as "growth pain," leading to a delay in diagnosis.
Joint swelling and stiffness. A tumor that occurs near or in a joint may cause the joint to swell and become tender or stiff. This means a person may have a limited and painful range of movement.
Limping. If a bone with a tumor breaks, or fractures, in a leg, it can lead to a pronounced limp. Limping is usually a symptom of later-stage bone sarcoma.
Other less common symptoms. Rarely, people with a bone sarcoma may have symptoms such as fever, generally feeling unwell, weight loss, and anemia, which is a low level of red blood cells.

Although there are more than 50 types of sarcoma, there are two main forms: soft tissue sarcoma and bone sarcoma, or osteosarcoma.
1) Soft-tissue sarcomas (STS) are a group of cancers that begin in the connective tissues that support and connect the body, including:
Blood vessels, Fat cells
Lining of joints
Lymph vessels
Muscle
Nerves
Tendons
As a result, STS can occur almost anywhere in the body. When an STS begins and is small, it can go unnoticed because it usually does not cause problems, such as pain. However, as an STS grows, it can cause pain or interfere with the body's normal functions.
2) Bone sarcoma
Cancer can start in any part of any bone. Cancer begins when healthy cells in the bone change and grow out of control, forming a mass called a tumor. A bone tumor can be cancerous or benign.
A cancerous tumor is malignant, meaning it can grow and spread to other parts of the body. A malignant tumor can destroy the bone and spread to nearby tissue. If these bone tumor cells get into the bloodstream, they can spread to other parts of the body, especially the lungs, through a process called metastasis.
A benign tumor means the tumor can grow, but it will not spread to other parts of the body. Even though a benign tumor does not spread outside the bone, it can grow large enough to press on surrounding tissue, weaken the bone, and cause the bone to fracture.
There are different types of connective tissue cancers of the bone.

A sarcoma is a rare kind of cancer. Sarcomas are different from the much more common carcinomas because they happen in a different kind of tissue. Sarcomas grow in connective tissue — cells that connect or support other kinds of tissue in your body. These tumors are most common in the bones, muscles, tendons, cartilage, nerves, fat, and blood vessels of your arms and legs, but they can also happen in other areas of your body.

Kidney cancer is cancer that begins in the kidneys. Your kidneys are two bean-shaped organs, each about the size of your fist. They're located behind your abdominal organs, with one kidney on each side of your spine.
In adults, renal cell carcinoma is the most common type of kidney cancer. Other less common types of kidney cancer can occur. Young children are more likely to develop a kind of kidney cancer called Wilms' tumor.
Symptoms
Kidney cancer usually doesn't have signs or symptoms in its early stages. In time, signs and symptoms may develop, including:
Blood in your urine, which may appear pink, red or cola colored
Pain in your back or side that doesn't go away
Loss of appetite
Unexplained weight loss
Tiredness
Fever
June is Men’s Health Month, a time when we focus on increasing awareness of preventable health problems to encourage men to take more active roles in preventing disease and detecting and treating problems early.

Cancer immunotherapy, also known as immuno-oncology, is a form of cancer treatment that uses the power of the body’s own immune system to prevent, control, and eliminate cancer.
Immunotherapy can:
Educate the immune system to recognize and attack specific cancer cells
Boost immune cells to help them eliminate cancer
Provide the body with additional components to enhance the immune response
Quitting smoking lowers the risk for 12 types of cancer: cancers of the lung, larynx, oral cavity and pharynx, esophagus, pancreas, bladder, stomach, colon and re**um, liver, cervix, kidney, and acute myeloid leukemia (AML).
The bladder is an organ that holds urine before it leaves the body. More than 90 percent of bladder cancers start in the cells that make up the innermost lining of the bladder wall. Bladder cancer can be treated with surgery, chemotherapy, intravesical chemotherapy, immunotherapy or radiation therapy.
What are the symptoms of bladder cancer?
Many people with bladder cancer can have blood in their urine but no pain while urinating. There are a number of symptoms that might indicate bladder cancer like fatigue, weight loss, and bone tenderness, and these can indicate more advanced disease. You should pay particular attention to the following symptoms:
blood in the urine
painful urination
frequent urination
urgent urination
urinary incontinence
pain in the abdominal area
pain in the lower back
Bladder cancer most often begins in the cells (urothelial cells) that line the inside of your bladder. Urothelial cells are also found in your kidneys and the tubes (ureters) that connect the kidneys to the bladder. Urothelial cancer can happen in the kidneys and ureters, too, but it's much more common in the bladder.
Most bladder cancers are diagnosed at an early stage, when the cancer is highly treatable. But even early-stage bladder cancers can come back after successful treatment. For this reason, people with bladder cancer typically need follow-up tests for years after treatment to look for bladder cancer that recurs.
If your family has a history of hereditary cancer (breast, endometrial, prostate, melanoma, pancreatic, colorectal, gastric or ovarian) make sure you know your potential risk. By doing this, you will increase your chances of preventing life threatening cancer and get ahead of any uncertainty.
Some of the cancers that most often affect women are breast, colorectal, endometrial, lung, cervical, skin, and ovarian cancers. Knowing about these cancers and what you can do to help prevent them or find them early (when they are small, haven't spread, and might be easier to treat) may help save your life.

Observed annually on the second Monday in May, National Women’s Checkup Day is a holiday that reminds women everywhere of the importance of regular healthcare visits.
Many illnesses can easily be treated if they’re caught early enough and if the person takes proactive treatments. Properly regular healthcare visits include going over family history with a doctor, getting screened for common illnesses, and setting health care goals. If this is done regularly, a woman can take control of their health and extend their potential lifespan.
The ovaries are part of the female reproductive system. They produce a woman's eggs and female hormones. Each o***y is about the size and shape of an almond.
Cancer of the o***y is not common, but it causes more deaths than other female reproductive cancers. The sooner ovarian cancer is found and treated, the better your chance for recovery.
To diagnose ovarian cancer, doctors do one or more tests. They include a physical exam, a pelvic exam, lab tests, ultrasound, or a biopsy. Treatment is usually surgery followed by chemotherapy.
Melanoma, the most serious type of skin cancer, develops in the cells (melanocytes) that produce melanin — the pigment that gives your skin its color. Melanoma can also form in your eyes and, rarely, inside your body, such as in your nose or throat.
The risk of melanoma seems to be increasing in people under 40, especially women. Knowing the warning signs of skin cancer can help ensure that cancerous changes are detected and treated before the cancer has spread. Melanoma can be treated successfully if it is detected early.
5 Facts about Melanoma
Melanoma spreads quickly
Melanoma can spread in the body more quickly and earlier than many other forms of cancer.
Melanoma strikes young
While the average age for other cancer diagnoses is around 65–70 years old, the average age for a melanoma diagnosis is 50.
There are many risk factors
Red hair, more than 50 moles, a family history of melanoma, sunburns in childhood, and use of a tanning bed are all risk factors for the disease.
Melanoma is very treatable
While it’s true that melanoma can be deadly, it can be treatable if caught early — immediate detection is critical.
Stay out of the sun for lower risk
The most impactful way to lower your risk of melanoma is simple — practice sun safety and avoid being in the sun for long periods of time!
Testicular Cancer Awareness Month is observed annually in April to encourage men between the ages of 20 to 35 to get tested for testicular cancer. The month also doubles as a time to reflect on advancements in research, treatment, and progress.
Testicular cancer remains one of the most treatable cancer types, with over 95% of those diagnosed surviving the past five years.

Increasing awareness during National Cancer Control Month also stresses the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, as well as promoting cancer screening in order to prevent the various types of this disease.
India ranks third among nations in terms of the highest number of cancers. Over 13 lakh people in India suffer from cancers every year, as per the National Cancer Registry Programme report. Sedentary lifestyles, an increase in urban pollution, in addition to rise in obesity, to***co and alcohol consumption, are said to be the reasons behind the rise.
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) estimates that there will be a 12 percent rise in cancer cases in India by the next five years. The most common forms of cancer affecting the people of India are breast cancer, cervical cancer and oral cancer.

Esophageal cancer is classified according to the type of cells that are involved. The type of esophageal cancer you have helps determine your treatment options. Types of esophageal cancer include:
Adenocarcinoma. Adenocarcinoma begins in the cells of mucus-secreting glands in the esophagus. Adenocarcinoma occurs most often in the lower portion of the esophagus. Adenocarcinoma is the most common form of esophageal cancer in the United States, and it affects primarily white men.
Squamous cell carcinoma. The squamous cells are flat, thin cells that line the surface of the esophagus. Squamous cell carcinoma occurs most often in the upper and middle portions of the esophagus. Squamous cell carcinoma is the most prevalent esophageal cancer worldwide.
Other rare types. Some rare forms of esophageal cancer include small cell carcinoma, sarcoma, lymphoma, melanoma and choriocarcinoma.

The esophagus is the muscular passage that food and liquids use to reach the stomach. Esophageal cancer results when abnormal cells grow out of control in esophageal tissue. Eventually the cells form a mass called a tumor.
The two main types of esophageal cancer are squamous cell carcinoma (which starts in the cells of the lining) and adenocarcinoma (which starts in the tissue that helps you swallow).
What are the symptoms of esophageal cancer?
Esophageal cancer may have no obvious symptoms in its early stages. The symptom people notice first is difficulty swallowing. As the tumor grows, it narrows the opening of the esophagus, making swallowing difficult and/or painful. Other symptoms of esophageal cancer can include:
Pain in the throat or back, behind the breastbone, or between the shoulder blades
Vomiting or coughing up blood
Heartburn
Hoarseness or chronic cough
Unintentional weight loss

Oral, head, and neck cancers refer to many types of cancers, including those that arise in the nasal cavity, sinuses, lips, mouth, thyroid glands, salivary glands, throat or larynx. Cancers of the oropharynx (tonsil and base of tongue) are increasing in incidence, particularly in younger nonsmokers, due to their association with the human papillomavirus (HPV).
