Diastasis recti is the partial or complete separation of the re**us abdominis, or โsix-packโ muscles, which meet at the midline of your stomach. Diastasis recti is very common during and following pregnancy. This is because the uterus stretches the muscles in the abdomen to accommodate your growing baby.

"HEEL DIPS"
This is an important exercise to build up your core muscles strength and improve your diastasis recti postnatally.
โซ๏ธAssume Crook lying as your starting position.
โซ๏ธEngage your core (lower abdominal muscles & pull your ribs down towards the floor), keep breathing.
โซ๏ธ Engage your perineal muscles.
โซ๏ธLift your legs one by one to assume table top postion (Hip-Knee:90-90).
โซ๏ธKeeping the core and perineal muscles engaged, drop your right heel down slowly and take it back up.
โซ๏ธDo this for 10 counts and repeat for the other leg.
โซ๏ธ Once this is mastered with optimal core contraction, you can do alternate Heel dips.
โช๏ธThis exercise has to be done only after you learn to engage your core properly alternated with breathing.
We at helps the mothers to build their core strength with great precautions.
Join us for the Postnatal exercise sessions to train your core with a varied range of exercises๐

I joined Birth N Beyond prenatal yoga classes when I was in the 4th month of pregnancy. I found out about the classes via internet. Out of the couple of classes that I had enquired about, this one sounded to be the best. The entire team is really well equipped with knowledge. Not only are they extremely supportive but also make it a point to address each and every query of moms-to-be. Their continuous guidance through each phase of pregnancy and the various asanas and breathing exercises taught in the class were extremely beneficial for me to have a safe normal delivery. Also, the Lamaze series by Dr. Dhwani proved extremely beneficial for both my husband and me. We learnt a lot about labour and birthing, which came in handy while I was in the hospital. Will definitely recommend and advise my friends to join prenatal classes with Birth N Beyond. .
MYTH 11: Eating spicy food brings on labor. Fact! The exact cause of labor is unknown. One reason some women stand by their chili pepper theory is that spicy food is known to irritate the digestive system in most people, and might be followed by diarrhea. Diarrhea dehydrates your body and one of the known side effects of dehydration in pregnant women is contractions. Therefore it may seem like your spice did the trick. However this may not always be true. # prenatalfitness # prenatalyoga

I enrolled for prenatal classes with at around 15 weeks
Before pregnancy I was actively doing pilates, yoga and walking. During pregnancy a mix of yoga, strengthening exercises , aerobics, squats and kegels helped me get through the entire period with ease thanks to ๐๐
But now that Iโm in my 39th week, my motivation to continue exercising or in fact doing just about anything has dropped a bit๐. The waiting has made me impatient and while everyone is awaiting the baby, I know it will take itโs time and be out only when he/she wants to. ๐๐
Till then Iโll keep continuing my duck walks and squats to help me through an easy delivery process.

Different views and real life experiences by our BNB moms on breastfeeding - Part TWO
Rohini Banerjee's Breastfeeding Journey
(BNB Mom)
My story is like most other struggling mothers. What we don't realise when we step into motherhood, especially as first time mothers is that we aren't the only ones struggling and that breast feeding struggles are very real for most of us. What has always seemed so organic and natural to us with breastfeeding women around us over the years suddenly seems like an epic task to us that is nothing short of frustrating and overwhelming. We start to feel like failures and question our parenting skills and instincts when our bodies are already storms of raging hormones post-partum.
We feel like our entire lives have boiled down to this moment as failures in breastfeeding and let that define ourselves as bad mothers. There is far more to parenting than breastfeeding. It takes a lot of persistence and an immense support system to see us through the tide of emotions, not to mention the sheer exhaustion we grapple with on account of the sleeplessness playing a number on our already fragile minds and recovering bodies. Happy mothers make happy babies.
Honestly, I just put so much pressure on myself to breastfeed that I was functioning on pure auto pilot mode. I was literally living in my pyjamas and refused to see a single visitor, including family because my baby would literally be latched to my b**b for what seemed like 24x7 and I didn't have the bandwidth to make conversation with anybody else. To make matters even more overwhelming, I was pumping after every feed which was literally every 2 to 3 hours over 24 hours, unrelentingly and exhausted for the first 3 months, gradually dropping the pumping sessions over the next few months. Breastfeeding was an extremely isolating experience for me so I totally understand how post partum depression could quickly escalate and cause the most confident women to crumble and get to a point of no return. Self assured women who've always invested in themselves and been in control of their lives are suddenly caught in a situation that seems like they've lost the plot completely and that they just can't cope with this new life that doesn't seem like their anymore.
I have always been fiercely independent and here I was reduced to tears at my incompetence at not having the slightest semblance of a normal life. New moms hitting the gym, wearing make up and stepping out to malls and catching up with friends, going to the movies and enjoying motherhood was what was normalised in my mind. Everything that I had decided to do post partum went out of the window and it seemed like a terribly lonely road. I wasn't going to be the cool momma I hoped to be.
My baby had a very poor latch and seeing multiple lactation consultants couldn't really address the problem. Our paediatrician had said that at 4 months if my baby's latch hadn't got better, it wasn't about to get any better and I was just frustrated with the mind numbing pumping sessions by then. There seemed no respite from the pumping, the cracked ni***es, having pumped milk go red from bleeding ni***es on a few occasions, dropping an hour's worth of pumped milk several times in the middle of the night because my brain and reflexes were just too exhausted to function coherently, the engorement issues.... I felt like I was a cursed mother. Then thankfully, the introduction of solid meals began and my fellow landed up being a great eater over a few weeks and absolutely fuss free. Therafter, his latch also got better and breastfeeding slowly and steadily got easier and kinder on me. I stopped the formula feeds that I supplemented with breast milk once we began with the solids. When I started off with formula when my baby was 4 wks, I felt horrible about not being able to sustain my baby with my milk alone despite having been following the healthiest meals of my life. I was mindful of everything I ate and yet I wasn't enough for my baby. How wrong I was!!! I was everything and more to my baby. I was his world. I'd have been a happier mother in my initial days if I was kinder on myself and less critical of myself. I gave birth to a gorgeous healthy boy at 3.4 kgs and I weighed less post partum than I did before my pregnancy and yet, I felt ugly in my tattered clothes, struggling to even find the luxury of time to bathe! Those images of mothers with blow dried hair and fabulous clothes, out and about with their babies in prams seemed like stuff straight out of fantasy.
Today, I am glad I persisted with breast feeding and I pumped for a whole year. Hanging up my pump was the most liberated I felt in over a year! My gynaecologist had asked me to take some medication to stop lactation because of recurring engagement issues that could lead to mastitis. Consulting a very supportive lactation consultant on time has enabled me to continue with my breastfeeding journey. At almost 18 months today, I breastfeed four times a day. We have night weaned and my fellow sleeps through the nights, unless wet diapers wake him up. When I desperately waited for the nights when my baby would sleep through the nights so I could get some desperately needed sleep, I now find myself looking for me time with watching movies online instead.
My life is no longer like I once knew it. To top that, the pandemic just burst our bubble of what raising our baby in this world would look like. The power of now is all we have so it's one day at a time. I feel empowered and blessed to be bestowed with so much strength I never knew I possessed. I've been an avid trekker and have climbed a few mountains and here I am, climbing our own Everest everyday, one step at a time. It hasn't been easy but the view is gorgeous and looking ahead, I see immense pride in myself for this wonderful creation of life, an extension of myself who I call my son.
