ποΈEYE TRANSPLANT ποΈ
The thrill and joy of gifting vision to someone who was unable to see, is unmeasurable.
This lady had a condition which caused weakness of both her corneas leading her to having nearly no vision in BOTH eyes.
π· She underwent a highly advanced Corneal Transplant procedure called DSAEK in one eye and was absolutely overjoyed at her vision and quick recovery, making her confident after so long.
ππ»Grateful to the Almighty for giving me such opportunities. Grateful to the universe for making it all fall in place.
π₯ Don't hesitate to go for treatment just hearing the word TRANSPLANT.
There are many patients who defer their treatment purely out of fear. Discuss your options with your surgeon and discuss all pros and cons and THEN make a planned decision.
thank you for the faith ππ»
β οΈEMOTIONAL POST ALERT β οΈ
Operating on your friend's .9 parents
comes with a mixed bag of emotions! Especially when that friend is your MBBS buddy π
The scene of Boman Irani
From is extremely true for a person like me - where he says "Once the drape is on the patient - I have no emotional connection any more - it is just me as the Doctor doing whatever is best for the individual under those surgical drapes - whoever that person may be.
βπΌHumbled that both the friends AND their parents trust your skill
πͺπ» Courage to know that you'll deal with it perfectly fine
ππ» Grateful that things go well
The truth is...
We are just here to treat/ operate you- it is HE who heals you ππ»
Grateful to the universe for its unique ways in teaching us so many lessons in life.

What an honour !
I was petrified of Maths as a school kid. I sobbed nearly before all my maths exams. But this gentleman here managed to help me conquer my fears and score a whopping 99/100 in my 12th Boards !

And my clinic/work social media account hence has his birthday as DOB.
So no it's not my birthday today, it's his (what's showing on FB) but thanks everyone who wished me today π
P.S. my birthday is coming sooooooon π¬π¬
TATTOO IN THE ποΈ
This lovely girl had lost her vision to an infection in her childhood, which left her with a white spot on the eye and being untreated back then, caused a lazy eye.
She came to me with the purpose of cosmesis because she was conscious when people kept asking her what happened.
The procedure done was Corneal Tattooing which eliminates the appearance of the white spot making the abnormal eye look similar to the normal.
Can you tell which one has been tattooed? Left or right? Leave your answers below π
Weekend Conference conducted by my alma mater .
"Voice of Refractive Surgery" was an academic feast. Stoked to get to present and learn from stalwarts.

Sunday Seminar
Stoked to present on "Treating Inflammation in Dry Eye" this Sunday in the "Questions in Refractive Surgery" meeting conducted by my very own boss .rohitshetty
Many thanks to for being such a lovely host and .pmk for being the backbone each time !
Thankful to for giving me this opportunity.
Why I haven't been posting off late?!
Coordinating logistics for baby...
Yes you read correctly.
The struggle of having a good and reliable nanny is so so real and hit me in the face so much over the past few months.
Coordinating pick ups and drops to school, having somewhere to keep him in vacations, rescheduling appointments if there's noone to keep him, dragging my working parents to chip in.... I've had my hands full !
So I've been bringing my son to the clinic when there wasn't any other option.
The struggle is real to ensure he remains at his best behaviour-
π₯feed him 3 khakras,
πread to him in between cases and
πlet him "write his own prescription since he was MAIN Doctor for the evening".
I feel like I'm being pulled in all directions and at my wits end now !
Have you faced something similar?!... Oh wait ofcourse all moms do - somehow we are always the ones juggling! - the question should be how often do you face this π
KERATOCONUS !

Super happy with this capture !

Why we all need greens in our lives !
The most soothing sight to my eyes- is the lush greens.
Everyone keeps talking about eating greens for good health and good eyes - SEEING greens is also soothing to the eye !
Most people wake up and start checking their phone ASAP for messages and emails.
Get off your phones and enjoy the view outside !
Focussing at a distant object will relax the strained eye muscles from the fatigue of focussing on a screen all day.
Cheers to a New Year and another chance for us to get it right !
Navroz Mubarak !
Pls note- on account of our Navroz festivities, the clinic will remain closed this morning.
π©Swimming in monsoons ! π©
Our patient went for a weekend holiday and used the swimming pool at a local hotel.
He came back with redness, blurred vision and pain.
Examination revealed these tiny white spots on the eye , typically a presentation of a certain microbial infection.
β οΈNot all red eyes are conjunctivitis!
Visit your nearest eye Doctor ASAP.
Any guesses what this is ?
πSummer holidays are here ! π
Last evening we had a battalion of kids come for their eye check ups βΊοΈ
It's the perfect time for the mums to bring these champs for their annual eye examination.
β οΈ A complete evaluation for kids always involves putting Cycloplegic drops after which you need to assess the number.
Without that, their check up is incomplete and not very conclusive.
β οΈ Because of crazy amount of screen time during the lockdown, a lot of children realized only when physical school started that they can't see the blackboard clearly.
βοΈ While older children may be able to tell you their vision issues, younger kids may not be able to verbalize it too well.
Watch out for symptoms like
βοΈ Going up close to the television to see better /Holding objects too close to the face
βοΈ Headaches
βοΈ Eye rubbing

βͺWhite dot in the eyeβͺ
This gentleman noted that he had progressive blurring of vision in one eye and eventually saw a white dot inside the eye. That's when he came for a check up.
This is now a Mature Cataract (note the 2nd picture ) shows a whitish reflection because of opacification of the lens.
βοΈ Yes this can be treated.
π Cataract surgery with Intraocular Lens Implant
β οΈ No you don't need to wait till it reaches such a stage.
β Cataract surgery can be done whenever the patient finds their symptoms troublesome/interfering with daily activities.
Know anyone suffering from Cataract/ who's been operated? Drop a ππ» in the comments.
π©Dandruff in the eyelashes?! π©
These tiny powdery scales look like dandruff in the eyelashes.
This is called BLEPHARITIS.
The scales can be thicker and associated with bleeding points on the skin, or just like this a milder form associated with itching and irritation of the eyelid skin.
π©βπ¬ Treatment involves lid hygiene and medicated eye ointments on the localized area.
Have you ever noticed these on someone? Leave a π in the comments.
π© NOT A STYE π©
Not every boil like swelling on the eyelids is a stye!
Get immediate attention to rule out malignancy ! Especially when it looks as gory as this.
This lady has been moving around with such a swelling for months, assuming it's a stye and waiting for it to resolve with warm compress.
This one is for my colleagues..
What are your differential diagnosis?

Stumbled upon my Medical College Annual Magazine.
In 2004 I penned a poem dedicated to my late brother "Jehan".
This was 2years after his death and we were still struggling to deal with the loss.
It got featured on a separate special page.
Thanks to my then editor Mary Anne.
As growing kids and teenagers, sibling fights and rivalry is very common. Not until you grow up do you actually realise the value of those bonds or how they sculpt your personality.
At this point in life I regret never having expressed my love for my brother as much as I splash it all over social media today π
I miss him so much.
To all you lucky people who have siblings, hug them more often ! And don't forget to tell them you love them β€οΈ

Navroz Mubarak to everyone...

π₯΅ HEAT WAVE ALERT π©
With temperatures soaring in the city, burning and dryness of the eyes seems to be a common complaint of most patients at the clinic.
What can you do ?
β
Sunglasses - to protect you from the harmful UV rays AND just block the current dusty air from hitting the eyes
β
Moisturizing eye drops to combat dry eyes
β
Make sure you are well hydrated yourself
β
Reach out to an Eye specialist if your eyes are itchy/red/watering
(And not for the eyes, but don't forget your sunscreen!!)
βοΈ π
WHITE SPOT / FLESHY MASS growing on the corner of the eye .
This is called "PTERYGIUM"
(pronounced TE-RI-JI-UM) often called VEL in the local language.
It's a slowly progressive condition where cells from the conjunctiva (transparent thin skin over the white portion) creep onto the cornea. (central circular structure of the eye- often mistaken as the black portion, but is actually transparent)
Commonly seen in
β
Hot dry weather
β
Dusty environment
β
Very common in farmers due to UV exposure
Sometimes the mass is very small and does not grow.
Occasionally it may grow and creep onto the central part of the cornea, causing increase in spectacle number and eventually blocking the vision. This stage may also be accompanied by frequent episodes of redness and watering of the eye.
πβοΈTreatment is a simple surgery- excision of the mass with an autograft ( clear conjunctiva from another part of the eye is placed onto the excised gap)
Chances of recurrence are minimised by the autograft technique.
Done under local anaesthesia.
Know anyone suffering from such a condition?
DM for more details.
π©Do I need to have my kid's eyes tested? π©
One word answer. Yes !
Incase they were born prematurely or had any other issues then of course a screening can be done when the child is much smaller.
But once your child is able to read and is entering pre school, a complete evaluation is advisable.
I finally made time to get my own son to the clinic for the same.
Oh and it's a task ! We need to put drops to examine them. This is in order to completely relax the influence of internal eye muscles (which otherwise may produce a false number reading on the machine)
The drops take around 45mins to act and the whole task of putting them can be a bit challenging.
But they're kids after all...lure them with some snacks/ a toy/ mine got pataod with a khakra !! And finally I got to do a complete assessment for him.
Why you need to get them checked?
β
Underlying spectacle power which maybe missed if not assessed
Screentime has been inevitable for everyone this pandemic, and there is any alarming increase in smaller children with undiagnosed myopia.
β
Underlying squint
β
Assessment of the whole eye for any other disorders
β
Children of parents with glasses often tend to have them too.
Have you gotten your kids eyes checked yet??
Call us on 7045658586 and schedule your appointment today.
STOP. BREATHE. REBOOT β οΈ
Every once in while, life does get overwhelming. The never ending patients, the never ending household chores, the never ending list of things your toddler wants to do with you....and so on.
We all need a break to rest, reboot and refuel, in order to get back to the same never ending grind !
I finally got a much needed break with nature after a very long time. Disconnected from people with no network.
Time to restart βΊοΈ
When was the last time you took some time off to yourself? Let me know in the comments.

CORNEAL ULCER π©
This is a picture of a corneal ulcer.
Basically a bacterial infection has invaded the cornea (front most layer of the eye) and penetrated inside producing a HYPOPYON - thick yellow pus like material in the front chamber of the eye.
This is exactly why not all red eyes are the same. Often, a minor infection maybe aggregated when the patient takes incorrect over-the-counter medications from chemists without any examination by an .
These type of infections are
1-different from a routine one,
2- take much longer to respond, and 3-often are difficult to treat.
