Wipro GE Healthcare on Tuesday said it has joined hands with medical device maker Boston Scientific, to provide end-to-end innovative interventional cardiac care solutions in India. The first of its kind collaboration between the two global medtech companies in India, will offer advanced medical devices and capabilities from Boston Scientific, coupled with GE Healthcare's strong medical imaging systems like cardiac catherization lab and related software, support diagnostics through treatment and monitoring of the cardiac patient-care pathway.

Genes2Me | Advanced Genetic Testing & Diagnostics Lab, IVD manufacturers, announced the development of the Real Time PCR-based kit for quick detection of monkeypox virus with a fast turnaround result time of less than 50 minutes.

The diagnostic company informed that the kit is available in both the standard version for any commonly available Real Time PC instruments as well as Point-of-Care format on Genes2Me Rapi-Q HT Rapid RT-PCR device. The Point-of-Care solution can be used for screening at multiple sites including hospitals, airports, diagnostic labs, health camps, etc.

After more than 16,000 cases being reported from 75 countries and territories, World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared the rapidly spreading monkeypox outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC).

How can you tell if your growth plates have closed?

Sometimes, during the adolescence, our body growth is incomplete. This is during this phase when the growth plates are closed and are replaced by solid bone. However, it is difficult to say exactly when each growth plates close because different bones stop growing at different times.

The growing plates at the long bones have an average time when they stop growing. Most of the children after the completion of their pubertal growth stage grow for an average of another two years. The age at which the puberty begins is quite erratic and it depends on many elements including race, gender, and body habits.

Generally, females stop growing at the age 12 to 14 years while males stops growing at around age of 14 to 16. However, some children continue growing in height till their late teens but most of the growth in them stops by these ages.

The APCCC Andhra Pradesh Comprehensive Cancer Care (APCCC) project has proposed to set up the country's largest cancer hospice centre with 100 beds in Tirupati.

This is apart from the centre of excellence proposed at SVIMS, in the name of 'Balaji Institute of Oncology', which will specialise in paediatric cancer care, bone marrow
transplantations and cancer genome research. The Balaji Institute will also act as an international cancer care centre. Overall, the project has planned to develop Tirupati into a medical tourism hub.

The 95 field hospitals that are being constructed across Maharashtra to create a parallel infrastructure for Covid-19 will take another couple of months to start functioning, this means if districts in the rest of the state start seeing a rise in cases now, they cannot bank on these upcoming facilities.

Though conceptualised almost 10 months ago, the hospitals coming up in seven administrative circles of Akola, Aurangabad, Nagpur, Nashik, Pune and Latur are still in different stages of construction and planning. The idea of Covid field hospitals was born after the second wave when health authorities realised that Covid could reappear in waves, and every time it did, the functioning of regular hospitals could be disrupted, affecting non-Covid patients. A senior state official said around 25 of the 95 proposed are in the final stages of construction. "However, they would be ready to operate only after 40-60 days," said the official, admitting these centres won't be ready in time if districts see a surge in the coming weeks.
