Everyone needs a little art in their lives!

Quiien Banerjee has been providing the strays with food since 2002. She started with feeding 8 dogs but presently feeds 650! She has been in animal welfare for almost 18 years now, mostly feeding and providing spot treatments. She aims to provide for these strays in their natural habitat and believes in very few adoptions, "I feel humans can’t really be trusted, they say the right things when asked but it is very difficult to judge how they’d keep an animal! I prefer feeding and settling them where they are instead of looking for homes."
I think the most fulfilling thing is when I see them eat their food. I think it’s just a mom thing... whether your kids have fur or not. My mom’s first question as soon as I’m awake is what will you have for lunch? Thankfully I don’t have to tell my kids that! Their wagging tails and their belly full with a good meal is what lifts my spirit like nothing else", says Quiien.

What do you enjoy the most about your work as an environmentalist?

Pooja has been working in the field of environment for the past 6 years now.
"It started out as concern and curiosity. But, I'm glad to be making a difference by providing environmental solutions in the field of wastewater.

Staying in the coastal area since childhood, I had a strong connection with water. Moving to a city and traveling around the country made me look at our rivers in a different way.

As a Co-founder and director at Lemnion Green Solutions Pvt Ltd, Pune, I have met and come across many incidences where spreading awareness on treating water using plants and microbes and then reusing it, is still not known to many. So teaching, reaching out, and spreading awareness became important. But, as a mother who teaches it to her children without giving up, I have done it with the same level of enthusiasm every day. As my mom says, "Scolding or simply proving your point doesn't always help. When you have to get your work done, make sure you understand the need and problem of the person and then address it." This made me strong as a person and this has helped me make them understand the importance of wastewater treatment and recycling better.

I have become a conscious user of cleaners, shampoos and other washing agents as it pollutes our rivers. I also urge others to do the same. Using minimal plastic, encouraging others to use more reusable and upcycled stuff has always been my favorite activity. I am on it like every mother is after their child until they learn the best of habits. Let's see how far my love for Mother Earth takes me.

Spending more time with Mother nature has helped me understand the problems. In the most natural way, I am helping people to treat and recycle the wastewater as much as possible."

What is the best part about being a special educator?

"Being with the kids" says Anita who is a special educator at an NGO in Kolkata for more than a decade. She helps children with various disabilities of different age groups; "I try my best to be by their side and help them take one step at a time so they can climb the ladder of success. Their innocence brighten up my days!" This picture was taken in 2019 winter when times were happier... She never could have imagined learning and teaching will be online, where interaction with the children would only be via the digital media.
Hoping for a better future where such unconventional moms can reunite with their cubs!

This is Me a few a years back, all posed as the saviour trying my best to protect my grannies from whatever I felt at that time. Just a reminder at tough times like this - wear a mask, maintain social distance & sanitise and you will be bigger than a saviour now!

She has the ability to make me laugh hard like this even today with her sense of humour. She has played an important role in all the big life changing decisions I've made be it my education, marriage, career and raising my child and Aantorik of course.
