Prof. Devavrat Shah is currently working as a professor at the Department of EECS and is the Director of Statistics and Data Science Center at MIT. Hope you are having a good summer so far! EnPoWER, UGAC brings to you the first edition of the Curriculum Oriented Research Experience, C.O.R.E 2022. This program gives students a unique opportunity to apply the concepts learned from academic courses to real-life, practical research. C.O.R.E gives students a chance to explore research and while doing so, not get demotivated by a lack of understanding/knowledge of higher-level concepts. While we are hard at work on SURP 2022 and expect to release it by the last week of May, C.O.R.E 2022 gives students an opportunity to spend their summers fruitfully on a research project under their professors while also eliminating or minimizing the time spent on literature review or any other preparation for the project since it is a direct derivative of an academic course that students have already completed. Additionally, the project does not have a cap on the number of applicants and no cpi requirements! You must have either completed the course that the project is based on or must be willing to go through the same for the purpose of the project. Since this is the very first edition of C.O.R.E, it is currently open exclusively for UG second year students(students in the summers between their fourth and fifth semesters).

The login and registration process is as follows:

Step 1: Go to the portal and click on the ‘PROJECTS’ tab which will take you to the page where you can find the details of any project by clicking on the ‘View More’ option.
Step 2: Click on the ‘APPLY NOW’ button on the top right corner. You will be redirected to a google form.

Step 3: To apply for projects you will need to fill in your preferences along with a drive link for the SOP (Statement of Purpose). You can apply for a maximum of three projects.

Step 4: The drive link containing the SOP in the form of a PDF is to be submitted for each project. Please do not forget to give viewing access to the SOP submitted.

Step 5: A print of your external ASC portal home page is to be submitted in the form of a PDF uploaded on Google Drive as proof of whether or not you have completed the courses the projects are based on.

Now you are ready to register for the program!

The Invention Factory, IIT Bombay program is an exciting opportunity for IITB students to explore the inventors in them. It is a six-week, intensive summer program in which 20 teams of 2 students each will conceive inventions, prototype them, pitch them, file a patent application for them and ultimately compete for the Best Invention prizes of up to INR 2 Lakhs. The applications for the same are open till 27 March, 2022.

EnPoWER in collaboration with Koita Centre for Digitial Healthcare, IIT Bombay, and Thoughtworks Pvt. Ltd. brings to you interesting in-semester project opportunities to put your sharp minds to work.

As part of the current initiative, a joint collaboration between IIT Bombay/KCDH & Thoughtworks, we would like to invite applicants to participate in OCR Integration with Bahmni (wiki). Bahmni enables the users to upload scanned patient documents (e.g. lab reports, prescriptions, etc) and attach them to the patients' dashboard. Though the documents are always available for the doctors to view, the fact that the documents can be viewed only as an attachment has its disadvantages. It is desirable that the data from the documents be extracted and converted through OCR and recorded as observation/indicators against the patient's medical history. This will make it easier for Bahmni to chart data and for these to be used in reports/analytics (since these are no longer just textual data).

Rajat Daga, a graduate from the Chemical Engineering Department, IITB, is pursuing a PhD at the University of Minnesota’s Chemical and Material Science Department. Throughout his stay at IIT Bombay, he explored culturals, sports but most importantly he tried his hand at research. He shares his experiences with regards to questions such as ‘MS v/s PhD’ and how he went about making a decision. For all the research enthusiasts out there, EnPoWER in collaboration with the Department Research Coordinator Team (DRC Team) of UGAC brings to you the In-Semester Summer Undergraduate Research Program 2021 (iSURP 2021) through which any undergraduate student can get a chance to be a part of a research project under the professors of IIT Bombay during the semester.

There are 90+ projects floated by 60+ professors spanning over 18 different departments. This program is not just limited to the parent department but also provides an opportunity to inter-departmental projects from your fields of interest.

Login and Registration Process:

Go to the website. Click on the ‘Login via SSO ’ button on the top right corner and login through your LDAP credentials.

Go to the projects tab on the Top Right corner of your laptop. On a mobile phone go to the projects tab by clicking on the three horizontals on the top right corner. You can now navigate through the projects from different departments.

To register for any project click on the “Register for this Project” tab on the bottom right corner of the project description.

It will redirect you to the registration page where you will need to submit your preference and SoP. (Please provide a drive link with viewing access)

Fill the CPI verification form and attach the google drive link containing your external ASC portal home page print in PDF format as proof of your CPI. (This form can be found on the “My applications” tab )

You can apply for a maximum of three projects in the program with a preference order of 1-3 with one being the highest preference.

Based on your registration professors will make their selections. Professors may call you up for interviews. In case you get selected for more than one project, you will be allocated the one under the highest preferred category.

A student can only be selected for a single project, based on the selection procedure decided by the professors.

This program is an opportunity to be a part of industrially relevant projects in the fields of Robotics, Mechatronics, Medical Product Design, Prototyping, and Programming(stipend included)

On My Own Technology® (OMOTEC®) is a dynamic Innovation and Research Lab that brings STEM learning to students of all age groups.OMOTEC® with its 6 research labs has been recognized with 4 patents and 17 published Research Papers which are the backbone of path-breaking innovation work being done with Students for creating products that shall solve problems of today and tomorrow.

Project Profiles: (Specific details will be given after the selection)

Profile 1: Project Head, Research-Oriented Projects
These are projects based on developing products based on real-life applications and contributing to various research papers based on product development. These projects aim to solve various real-world problems in fields like healthcare, supply chain, transportation, and many more.
Pre-requisites: Exposure to Python/ Image Processing and Machine Learning. A bit of skill of hardware to coding orientation.
Time Commitment: 7 hours a week till End-semester examinations and full commitment during the winter break
Work Outcome: Take part in research and prototyping of various products, teach them to various team members as project lead.

Learning outcomes and Benefits:
Co-Authorship of a Research Paper
Monthly project funding of 12000 Rs per individual
Hands-on prototyping experience along with mentorship to students exposure

Profile 2: Project Head, Game Teams
These are projects based on developing gaming and robotics models for various international competitions. You will get hands-on opportunities to develop various robotic and game models which will compete in various events.
Pre-requisites: Mechanical with a bit of electrical background. Have experience in modeling and machine design.
Time Commitment: 7 hours a week till End-semester examinations and full commitment during the winter break
Work Outcome: Game Design / Robotics Competition / Working under pressure / teaching / game robotics essential

Learning outcomes and benefits:
International Coach Certificate for the student team
Monthly project funding of 15000 Rs per individual
Hands-on modeling experience along with mentorship to students exposure
