If you ever visit Shivaji Park, there is a round about road and sitting in a peaceful corner is this *Pollinators Stop*
Conceived by Breathingroots, this is one of the rare garden islands in the city that invites butterflies and other pollinators like bees, moths and insects to stop over to rest during migration and also reproduce many more. The plants selected here are special, as they are conducive for this purpose. Our director pareshchuri used his knowledge of the subject to built this along with his partner Jayesh, under the aegis of We4o2foundation.
Recognising the need to have biodiversity and ecological conservation in the city, this garden provides a haven for these pollinators and ensures that they can safely continue their migration and life in conjunction with nature.
Photos show how it survived over the years blossoming into exactly what was envisaged as a little special garden.
Don't miss this event... Look forward to see you there!

World Rainforest Day *
*WHY WORLD RAINFOREST DAY?
Rainforests are vital for the survival of life on Earth. They absorb our carbon dioxide, stabilize climate patterns, and are home to half the world’s plant and animal species.
Yet every minute, we lose 40 football fields of rainforests, which threatens our biodiversity and imperils our planet’s health. Deforestation causes 15% of global carbon dioxide emissions that accelerate climate change—more than from all cars in the U.S. and China combined. Natural climate solutions like protecting and restoring forests, however, could reverse global emissions by a third.
World Rainforest Day celebrates this precious natural resource and encourages action to preserve it. Your efforts, together with the actions of others, will have a positive impact on rainforests and the climate worldwide.
Greetings of 'World Oceans Day'! Every Human beings life relies on Ocean in great many ways. Help Save Oceans from getting ravaged by few simple steps like 1) Avoid Single use plastic,
2)reduce-reuse-refuse-recycle-refurbish- rethink your trash
3) consume sustainably
4) save water.
World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5 every year to remind people about the importance of nature. It is celebrated across the globe to tell people that nature should not be taken for granted and must be respected for its values.
*2021 Theme: Ecosystem Restoration*
The theme for World Environment Day 2021 is “Ecosystem Restoration” and will see the launch of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. Ecosystem restoration can take many forms: Growing trees, greening cities, rewilding gardens, changing diets or cleaning up rivers and coasts. This is the generation that can make peace with nature.
What is Ecosystem Restoration?
Ecosystem restoration means assisting in the recovery of ecosystems that have been degraded or destroyed, as well as conserving the ecosystems that are still intact. Healthier ecosystems, with richer biodiversity.
🐝🐝*World Bee Day 2021 is on Thursday, 20 May 2021.*🐝🐝
Bee Day celebrations raise awareness about the threats to pollinators like bees by human activities.
In December 2017 UN approved this day and the First World Bee Day was celebrated on Sunday, 20 May 2018. In the current year, the fourth observance of this event is taking place.
The purpose of the bee day is to acknowledge the role of bees and other pollinators for the ecosystem.
*Theme of World Bee Day*
World Bee Day theme 2021 is * #“Bee engaged: Build Back Better for Bees”*🐝
There are almost 20,000 different species of bees in the world. Bees live in colonies. In each colony, there are three types of bees, the queen bee, the worker bee, and the drone. The worker and the queen bee both are females, but only the queen bee can reproduce. All drones are male. Worker bee’s tasks are to clean the hive, collecting pollen and nectar to feed the colony and taking care of the offspring. The drone only mates with the queen. The queen’s job is to lay eggs only.
Some well-known types of bees are as under,
Types of Bees 🐝🐝🐝
🐝*The Honey Bee*
Honey bees are classed as ‘social’ bees, as they live in big colonies usually of around 50,000 – 60,000 workers. There are 10 types of honey bees across the world.
Colony Collapse Disorder or the ‘missing bees’ phenomenon is the major problem of Honey bees. Honey bees are also a source of crop pollination and to put food on our plates in the form of honey.
🐝*The Bumble Bee*
Most bumblebees keep small colonies, from 50 to 400 workers.
Bumblebees are excellent pollinators of flowers. Their furry body shape reduces their efficiency of pollination a little bit, but they also have the ability of ‘buzz pollinate’.
🐝*Leaf Cutter and Mason Bees*
These types of bees are buzz bees. These are also solitary bees. Usually, a single female mason bee constructs a nest alone and provides for the egg cells that become larvae.
🐝*Digger Bees and Carpenter Bees*
The solitary and good pollination are the qualities of digger bees. These bees usually make their nests in the soil. Their body is hairy and can be up to 3 cm long.
🐝*Mining Bees*
Andrena is the name of Mining Bee.
These bees have a huge family, consisting of thousands of types of bees. These bees are solitary, and female bees usually build nests quite close to each other.
Bees not only contribute to the pollination of wildflowers, but also to the pollination of agricultural crops. According to an estimate, bees and other pollinators pollinate almost 90% of flowering plants and “70% of the world’s main crops. Without bees, these numbers would fall to decline.
The government of Canada shares a formula in which you can calculate the monetary benefit of bee pollination in relation to a specific crop.
The contribution of honey bee pollination to agricultural production can be estimated by this formula,
🔴V x D x P
Where;
🔺V= Value of crop
🔺D= Dependency of the crop on insect pollinators
🔺P= Proportion of effective pollinators of the crop that are honey bees
The estimates used for D and P are 2000.
Although Bees provide invaluable services as well as monetary advantages through pollination, yet they also contribute to the economy through honey.
🐝Reasons for Endangered Bees:-
There are many different reasons due to which bees are endangered, including habitat loss, pesticides, and other anthropogenic causes. Declining numbers of different species of bees have been noticed around the world, which means that there is a real risk of additional species. In seven years span, the United States saw approximately 1.6 million bees die off each year.
🐝Impacts of Climate Change upon Bees:-
Climate change is the root cause of many environmental issues. For example, the Gourd Bee has a decline in numbers in recent years. The gourd bee lives upon vegetables such as squash or pumpkins. However, climate change has reduced the production of these vegetables, which has an impact on the growth of gourd bees.
At the moment, a lot of factors including climate change are creating danger for bee species, and scientists are under pressure to find out ways to mitigate these deleterious effects on bee populations. If emergency steps are not taken now, then additional species of bees may be on the endangered list.

*10 Ways to Celebrate Earth Day From Home*
Every April 22, we celebrate Earth Day!
The 51st Anniversary of Earth Day
Here at The Old Farmer’s Almanac, we believe that nature, plants, and the land are integral to our own health and that individual responsibility lies with each of us.
Ever wonder how Earth Day began? The first Earth Day was held on April 22, 1970,
Earth Day 2021 will mark the 51st anniversary of this holiday. Typically, Earth Day is assigned a different theme or area of focus each year; this year’s theme is “Restore Our Earth.”
Today, not only is Earth Day a day meant to increase awareness of environmental problems, but it is also becoming a popular time for many communities to gather together to clean up litter, plant trees, or simply reflect on the beauty of nature. Further down the page, we’ve provided a list of activities and projects that you can do to improve your local environment!
*1. Support Our Pollinators!*
Bring native bees and other pollinating creatures to your garden. One way to do this is by selecting the right plants.
Find a beauty or two from our list of plants that attract butterflies and plants that attract hummingbirds.
Learn more about native bees (the super-pollinators!) and make a native bee house (much like a bird house!). Or, see how to make a bee-friendly garden habitat including bee-friendly plants.
Here are more ways you can help pollinators in your backyard.
*2. Clean Up Plastic in Your Neighborhood or Local Park*
One of the best ways to connect with the Earth is through cleanups! Go on a walk with a trash bag and help to clean up any plastic that you find.
*3. Swap Out Your Kitchen and Household Products!*
*4. Plant a Tree!*
We love our trees! They capture carbon, cool overheated places, benefit agriculture, support pollinators, reduce the risk of disease transmission, and boost local economies.
*5. Use Wildflowers and Native Plants*
Wildflowers and indigenous species are not only beautiful but also attract native and beneficial insects that improve both pest control and pollination—meaning bigger flowers and bigger harvests. Try to simply add a couple of native plants to your garden each year, and you’ll be amazed at the difference—they’ll bring in pollinators as well as birds!
*6. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle in the Garden*
*7. Stop Pesticides and Chemicals in the Garden*
Most of the beginner gardeners whom we meet want to start growing without chemicals or pesticides—in a way that works and even saves money. Much of this is simply about focusing less on the plant and more on the health of the soil that supports the plant. If it’s nutrient-rich with organic matter, plants thrive.
*8. Conserve Water!*
We waste a lot of water. Avoid overwatering your plants and improve their health by knowing how much your garden really needs. Avoid watering your garden vegetables and plants from overhead, which invites fungal disease. Water at the soil level.
*9. Think About Your Diet!*
About one-third of the food that we produce every year goes to waste annually! Usually, this happens after we buy the food. How do we avoid waste in our own lives (and save money)? Also, how can we improve our diet so that it’s healthier for ourselves (and the planet)? One way is to care about your “foodprint,” which is the result of everything that it takes to get your food from the farm to your plate.
*10. Get Kids Involved!*
Pass down a love of nature and plants to kids. There are lots of opportunities for hands-on learning experiences outside.

Kalanchoe
Most are shrubs or perennial herbaceous plants, but a few are annual or biennial. The genus Kalanchoe includes more than 100 species of plants, but only a few are regularly seen in cultivation. The largest, Kalanchoe beharensis from Madagascar, They are a slow-growing varietal, on average taking between two and five years to reach mature size. Kalanchoe flowers are divided into 4 sections with 8 stamens.
*Golden tree (Cassia fistula)*
Class: Dicotyledonae
Order: Fabales
Family: Fabaceae
Subfamily: Caesalpinioideae
Genus: Cassia
Species: Cassia fistula
Cassia fistula is a medium sized deciduous or semi-deciduous tree, 10 to 15 m tall with a straight trunk to 5 m in height and 1 m in diameter.
Cassia fistula is a multipurpose tree. It is widely grown as an ornamental plant in tropical and subtropical areas due to its profuse flowering. The flower of the golden tree is Thailand's national symbol and the state flower of the Kerala state in 🇮🇳 India.
Cassia fistula is thought to have originated from South-East Asia, and was introduced throughout the tropics.
