The story of a few millimetres!!!

Presented below are the composite images ( photos) of an otherwise healthy young worker who sustained a penetrating injury. In the first picture ( pre operative) we see a metallic intraocular foreign body ( ) just a few mm away from the fovea ( the part responsible for fine vision) with adjoining sub retinal bleeding.

The second picture, is of the same patient after surgery for removal of intraocular foreign body showing the scar tissue in the area of IOFB lodgement, resolution of sub retinal bleeding and few retinal striae.

The patient underwent with us at Mumbai Eyenretina Centre for removal of . Fortunately for him the vision could be restored back to 6/6 ( normal vision ) despite a potentially blinding injury.

Why I love my work!!

A patient walks in with inability to see the lower half of visual field at 11:30 am yesterday. On examination Is found to have a superior fresh macula ON retinal detachment. We perform a 5 minute procedure called “pneumatic retinopexy” by 2:30 pm.

Today morning 11:30 am, retina is totally attached and the patient’s eye is as good as Unoperated !!
