MANGALORE GROVE : BEFORE/AFTER
With sustainability at its root, the story of Mangalore Grove begins with a brief attempt to salvage the existing structure, extending the life of the building and minimizing the use of resources that go into building from scratch.
With sloping roofs clad in evergreen Mangalore tiles, pristine white walls, wooden rafters and abundant natural light, the essence of Mangalorean culture is seamlessly integrated into this home – reminiscent of the family’s hometown. The entrance foyer is extended using a set of repurposed columns from the family’s ancestral home in Mangalore to create an inviting porch that mirrors the welcoming spirit of a Mangalorean home. Finding new life and meaning here, these traditional columns adorn the front porch and are complemented by intricately crafted soffit and wooden rafters.

This is one of our favourite spaces in Villa Amor. 🤩
This infinity pool is planned around one of the existing magnificent trees, almost emerging from its midst and serving as the focal point of the entire architectural composition. For guests, it is a go-to spot to soak in the crisp Goan air and dip their feet in the pool on a sunny day. 🍹

Repost from .india
The Mangalore Grove is a 150-year-old ancestral villa that has now been turned into a holiday home, designed by SAGI Architects.
Seamlessly blending tradition, simplicity and sustainability, The Mangalore Grove transforms from a dilapidated ancestral villa into a serene holiday refuge away from the chaos of urban life.
“The family wanted this to be a simple, humble and serene holiday home that would allow them to reconnect with their Mangalorean roots, which gave us a unique opportunity to weave together tradition, simplicity and sustainability within the bustling heart of Mumbai,” explains Akash Dudhe, founder and principal architect of Mumbai-based multidisciplinary architecture and interior design practice SAGI Architects.
The colours and hues across the tropical home are soothing, with shades of white and earthy tones being paired with ethnic patterns, such as Ikat, on natural materials like rattan, which were all chosen to create a harmonious blend of simplicity.

We are bringing nature, calm and local architecture together at our upcoming holiday home. And here’s the first peek into the design. 🌴🏡
Spread across 8250 sq ft, this villa is everything our clients dreamed of. True to its brief, we designed the villa to seamlessly incorporate the surrounding landscape, creating a haven that connects with its environment.
Stay tuned for more updates on the project.

If you love north Goa for its peaceful bylanes, Portuguese architecture and unexplored villages like we do, you’ll love Villa Amor. 🌴🥥
The design is inspired by the surrounding, traditional Goan homes. The site overlooks the picturesque paddy fields and brings nature indoors with its full-height French windows.
A small door on the boundary wall provides access to the verdant paddy fields, to invite visitors to venture into the paddy fields. As the sun sets, chandeliers and cane lighting fixtures illuminate the house, exuding warmth and perfectly complementing the white walls. ☀️

The site office on Terminal 3, Delhi for J. Kumar Infra Projects Limited () is one of our many projects and explorations with shipping containers. 🟨🟧
Why choose a composite construction using prefabricated steel and shipping containers?
✅ Efficient offsite production, reducing environmental impact.
✅ The flexibility to relocate structures after use – means less environmental disruption.
✅ Both materials are highly recyclable.
✅ The controlled offsite environment minimizes possibilities for construction errors.
✅ Shorter construction times mean less disruption and quicker project completion.

Sienna House: raw, earthy and rooted in nature 🌱
Taking inspiration from its backdrop – the Western Ghats, the weekend home is exactly what you would imagine – in hues of reds and browns. ⛰️
Our design philosophy was all about creating an open and inviting space for a family that loves spending time with each other as much as hosting their loved ones.
Thank you for featuring our project.

What if we told you this was a site office?
We designed and built this site office for J. Kumar Infra Projects Limited () during the pandemic. The structure is a composite of prefabricated steel and shipping containers. (More details about this coming 🔜)
We wanted to create a workspace that was energy-efficient, sustainable and comfortable to work in.
Here’s how we did it:
🌿 By bringing in natural light through skylights and full-height windows.
☀️ By introducing plenty of indoor plants, bringing nature inside.
🟨 By adding hints of the brand colours – yellow and orange, infusing life and creating interesting contrasts with the greys and blacks.

We are so excited about our recently completed weekend home, Villa Amor.
Tucked away in the serene bylanes of the tranquil village of Assagoan, Villa Amor is an escape into the relaxed and laid-back way of life that is Goa. 🌴🏖️
The design embraces the lush surroundings with its harmonious blend of Goan-Portuguese architecture and the pristine white walls with Mangalorean tiles that make it feel like it's always belonged here.
Can’t wait to share more about this beautiful holiday home. Stay tuned!

Our weekend home project in Mahagaon is shaping up and we cannot wait to show you more.
This 5000 sq ft villa has some breathtaking views of the Sahyadri range and is designed closely with nature. 🏡
Villa Amor, Assagao, Goa
Inspired by Goan-Portuguese architecture, the villa harmoniously blends with its neighbourhood, giving the impression that it has always belonged in this idyllic locale – with its pristine white walls, locally-sourced red Mangalorean roof tiles. The design concept takes an approach to ‘building around nature’ – preserving all existing trees on site.
Villa Amor,Assagao,Goa
Tucked away in the serene bylanes of this tranquil inland village known for its leafy streets and elegant colonial villas, Villa Amor is an escape into the relaxed and laid-back way of life that is Goa.
Overlooking the picturesque paddy fields and enveloped by traditional, charming Goan houses, the plot of the land is situated ten feet above the paddy fields. This rectangular plot is flanked by these fields on one side and traditional Goan houses interspersed with tall palm trees on the other three sides.
