For this, we have to go deep down in the production chain, educate the farmers about the need for transformation (into organic farming), and empower them with efficacious product options. We must instil in them the knowledge that the world of the future will prefer organically grown products, and if they have to continue to be in the reckoning, they better change their ways of farming. And we must expose them to the fact that organic farming will yield better economic rewards in the long run. But to be realistic, the day of comprehensive Organic Living has not yet dawned upon us. Until such an ideal time comes, we will have to continue to use Chemicals-based Fertilizers and Soil Nutrients. But we must choose and use them very selectively.

One of the objectives of the project was to create a protocol on organic fertilizer production which makes the soil rich in fertilizer without using chemicals. Another objective of the project is to be able to produce a quality organic fertilizer that will be used by farmers as an agribusiness venture.

Organic fertilizers contain besides nitrogen and phosphor other minerals which can have a beneficial effect on the planton growth. Organic fertilizers have a very beneficial effect on the pond bottom. The adsorption capacity will be greatly increased (higher potential buffer capacity) and the microflora will be enhanced.

Organic fertilizers contain protein, fat and fiber. Fertilizer particles coated with bacteria can be used directly as food by the cultured species. Artemia, a non selective filter feeder obtains part of its food in this way.

Organic fertilizers often float (chicken manure). Therefore the loss of pHOsPHArUS is reduced.and decrease Odour of Manure. By using organic fertilizers one usually recycles a waste product, which otherwise would have been dumped.and also reduced ground water contamination.

BENEFITS OF ORGANIC MANURES :

Contains micro and macronutrients, such as Nitrogen phosphorus and Potassium and a fair amount of Manganese, Zinc, Carbon, Nitrogen and Iron. These are simultaneously added to the soil. Besides, it increases the microbial activity. Carbon as an energy source and othe nutrients are provided to soil microbes, which results in augmentation of their population. They in turn help in decomposition of organic matter, biological nitrogen fixations, solubilization on insoluble phosphates and availability of plant nutrients. There is improvement in Soil structure, water holding capacity, drainage, exchange capacity, seed germination and reduction of soil erosion. Humic substances realeased as byproducts of soil microbial activity, increase the efficieny of bio and chemical fertilizers. Proliferation of plant parasite, soil nematodes are checked. Resistance of plants to pest attack is increased.

NEED FOR ORGANIC MANURE :

Some Indian soils being very poor in organic matter and major plant nutrients, addition of regular doses of organic manures in requisite quantities can help restoration of soil health and also compensate the loss of basic nutrients of every year from soil, due to uptake of crops. Therefore, use of organic manure is extremely essential for better productivity of crop and maintaining the fertility of soil to ensure sustainable production.

The environmental problems facing the agricultural industry cannot be solved by pesticide free zones in periphery areas by improved spraying equipment. If environmental degradation is to be avoided & pollution must be stopped. When it is understood how soil to be treated to become a “living” entity the need of easily absorbable artificial fertilizers disappears and when it is grasped how to achieve bio-diversity in farming the need of hazardous chemicals in agricultural production also disappear
