HAND of HOPE

A picture began circulating in November.

It should be "The Picture of the Year," or perhaps, "Picture of the Decade"
It won't be. In fact, unless you obtained a copy of the U.S. paper which published it, you
probably would never have seen it..

The picture is that of a
21-week-old unborn baby named Samuel Alexander Armas, who is being operated on by surgeon named Joseph Bruner. The baby was diagnosed with spina bifida and would not survive if removed from his mother's womb.

Little Samuel's mother, Julie Armas, is an obstetrics nurse in Atlanta.

She knew of Dr. Bruner's remarkable surgical procedure. Practicing at
Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, he performs these special operations while the baby is still in the womb.

During the procedure, the doctor removes the uterus via C-section and makes a small incision to operate on the baby. As Dr. Bruner completed the
surgery on Samuel, the little guy reached his tiny, but fully developed
hand through the incision and firmly grasped the surgeon's finger. Dr. Bruner was reported as saying that when his finger was grasped, it was
the most emotional moment of his life, and that for an instant during
the procedure he was just frozen, totally immobile.

The photograph captures this amazing event with perfect clarity. The editors
titled the picture, "HAND OF HOPE"

The text explaining the picture begins, "The tiny hand of 21-week-old fetus Samuel Alexander Armas emerges from the mother's uterus to grasp the finger of Dr. Joseph
Bruner as if thanking the doctor for the gift of life"

Little Samuel's mother said they "wept for days" when they saw the picture. She said, "The photo reminds us pregnancy isn't about disability or an illness, it's about a little person "Samuel was born in perfect health, the operation 100 percent successful. Now see the actual picture, and it
is awesome...incredible...."

KISS OF LIFE. In 1968, the author received the Pulitzer Prize for this photograph - one of the most prestigious awards in the United States, which is awarded for achievements in music, cinema, theater and journalism.
The picture shows two electricians, Randall Champion and Jay Thompson, hanging from a power pole. That day there was a strong heat and nothing foreshadowed trouble. The hum of air conditioners in July 1967 was heard throughout the state of Florida. Because of them, in the city of Jacksonville, there was an overload of power lines, and this caused a power surge.
Randall and Jay were doing routine maintenance on a live line when Randall accidentally touched one of the wires. A discharge of 4000 V passed through the body and his heart stopped. For understanding: during the ex*****on in the electric chair, a voltage of 2000 V is used
Randall's lifeless body hung from the harness. But his partner Jay did not lose his head, realizing that every second is precious, he began to give him artificial respiration right on the pole. It was very inconvenient, but there was no other way out. In such a situation, it is difficult to conduct a normal resuscitation, but Jay still tried to start his friend's heart until he had a weak pulse.
Only after that he unhooked his partner's insurance and, throwing him over his shoulder, went down to the ground. By the time the rescuers arrived (they were called by professional photographer Rocco Morabito, who happened to be at the scene), Champion was already conscious on the ground.
Not only was he saved, thanks to Thompson, but he lived another 35 years. The electrician died in 2003 at the age of 64.
Thompson is alive today.

Delhi doctor dies by su***de, was treating Covid patients in ICU

"This again brings into focus the tremendous emotional strain that doctors and health care workers are undergoing while handling the Covid-19 crisis. This death of a young doctor is nothing short of murder by the system which has created frustrations due to shortage of basic health care facilities," Dr Ravi Wankhedkar, former national president of the Indian Medical Association said.

36-year-old doctor who had been attending to Covid-19 patients for nearly a month in the ICU of a private hospital in Delhi, has died by su***de.

Dr Vivek Rai was a resident doctor at the hospital. He hailed from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, one of Dr Rai's colleagues said he was on Covid duty for the past one month and was dealing with ICU patients.

"He would provide CPR to about seven to eight patients every day. Despite efforts, not many would survive," he said, adding that Dr Rai was "frustrated" with the prevailing situation and the condition of patients.

Dr Rai's colleagues said as a frontline Covid warrior, he saved hundreds of lives during the pandemic.

He got married last November and is survived by his wife, who is two months into her pregnancy.

Dr Rai's body was taken to AIIMS New Delhi for postmortem.

In a statement, the police said Dr Vivek Rai died by su***de at his residence in Malviya Nagar.

"Thorough search of the room was made and a su***de notice was found wherein no allegation were made against anybody by the deceased," the police said.
