A one-stop-store for the best in biking from Indian & International Brands!! He was the first & largest importer of bicycles. At Nareshchandra & Co.
A man with a vision, a man with an immense passion for 2 wheels, a man who could foresee how things would eventually take shape - Late Shri Dahyabhaiji Sutaria. He was the one who anticipated the need & significance of one of the simplest modes of transport - The Bicycle. Perceiving the future, Late Shri Dahyabhaiji Sutaria was one of the very few who had to his credit a lot many 'firsts' as we
may call it today. He was also the first to import British brands of Motor Cycles from Royal Enfield, Wilier, Norton, BSA, AJS, & Matchless till 1950. He was also the first re-seller of the very first Indian manufactured bicycle from - Hind Bicycles, which were followed by Atlas & Hero. Going forward with this vision, he was one of the handfuls of 'Visionaries' who ventured into the bicycle business & set up "The Bombay Cycle Store" way back in the year 1929. The story of being one of 'firsts' did not stop here, Shri Sutaria was one of the very few & leading importers of bicycles. Brands such as Raleigh, Robinhood, Rudge, Humber, Hercules & Phillips (all manufactured in the U.K.) were ordered from the U.K. & would arrive in huge wooden boxes, each consisting of 25 bicycles. This inventory used to reach Indian shores in 21 days at Mumbai port. A majority of us today don't even know most of the brands of bikes which were available in those days & such was the build quality of these bikes that they were a revolution in itself. Buying and owing one of these masterpieces from U.K. was a matter of utmost pride for their owners. With the passage of time Late Shri Sutaria felt the need for shifting & setting up a store which was more so within the city limits. Such was the foresight of this man that he acquired the location at Sitabuldi in the year 1955 & started business by the new name of Nareshchandra & Co. - as we know it even now. We could credit Late Shri Dahyabhaiji Sutaria for being one of the very few & one of the firsts to play a pivotal role in making Sitabuldi one of the biggest & most sought after commercial destinations of Nagpur even today. It has been the third generation of the Sutaria family who are still nurturing, living, fulfilling & successfully continuing the dream which Late Shri Sutaria had envisaged. The present owner of Nareshchandra & Co. - Shri Nikhilji Sutaria shares the same vision & foresight as his ancestor. Shri Nikhilji Sutaria is one the first to re-introduce International Brands of bikes again into India as well as in Nagpur by becoming the first dealer of the world renowned Raleigh & Scott brand of bikes since 2008 & 2010 respectively. Many objected & questioned Shri Nikhilji Sutaria's decision of re-introducing foreign brands especially in the city of Nagpur & that too when business & economy of the city was in its infant stages. But as is with most business visionaries & legends, Shri Nikhilji Sutaria could clearly see the winds of change & acted likewise. And today, as Shri Nikhilji Sutaria had envisaged almost a decade ago, the biking scenario is already on its way to turn a new leaf. Demand for international brands & the need for cycling as one of the best forms of exercise is fast taking shape. But, continuing with the great legacy, upholding the name & still taking decisions which will stand the test of time & that of consumers was not an easy task at all. A lot of farsightedness, anticipation of how the masses will respond & an element of risk is involved with regards to Brand selection. Moving forward after taking into consideration & using all the experience which has been inherited Shri Nikhilji Sutaria chose to join hands with Brands which share the same ideology as his. And as a result aspiring cyclists in particular & the biking community in general, today can rely and go by the word of people working with Nareshchandra & Co. that they will get the best advice on product selection keeping in mind every individual's needs & expectations. we always tell people that whenever they come to the store, you won't be incurring an Expense but you would be making one of the best investments with regards to your health, society & environment when you decide to invest in a bike!
