Whitehaven Beach Australia :-
Whitehaven Beach is located in the heart of the Whitsundays. On the coast of Whitsunday Island itself, Whitehaven Beach is the shining gem of the Whitsundays and is one of the most iconic places in the whole of Australia. The sands are mostly void of any of nature's usual beach debris of rocks, driftwood and shells, meaning you can walk the shores in bare feet, enjoying the softly lapping water. The pure white sand seemingly stretches endlessly, an unbroken sea of white on a literal sea of blue. The surrounding islands shelter Whitehaven from large ocean swells meaning it is usually calm, waveless waters, also ideal for swimming, paddleboards or wading.
Where did Whitehaven Beach begin?
Whitehaven Beach is hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of years in the making. It all began when the Whitsunday Islands began to form millions of years ago. Once a mountain range, they are the product of volcanic activity, an ice age and millions of years of changing oceans and land masses. Where Whitehaven Beach lies is simply the most recent shoreline of Whitsunday Island, where the world's most fine and prized sand now calls home. How it came to be the famous beach as we know it, is a little more complicated.
What is it famous for?
Whitehaven Beach is not only famous for its beauty and gorgeous backdrop, but also for its unique sands. There are billions of tons of it, stretching along the 7km shoreline of Whitehaven Beach. Whitehaven's sand is made up of 99% silica sands and are the most pure in the world. They are soft and white, and are of such quality, it is said that the glass on the Hubble is made from them. Their stark white colour and composition means that the sand does not retain heat and remains cool on even the hottest days, keep the feet of its visitors cool and comfortable.
Theories behind creation
It was long thought that the sand was the product of the volcanic activity that created the Whitsunday Islands themselves. For many years, scientists had little to no idea where the sand came from or how it came to be. There are still many theories of where the sand came from, as it is formed from quartz - a rock that is not native to the Whitsundays. So if the sand is made of quartz, but there is no quartz around, how did it come to be?
The newest theory is that the sandy shores of Whitehaven Beach are the byproduct of thousands of years of ocean currents that brought the sands from elsewhere in the world. The islands and headlands are said to have trapped the sand, which was made pure and free of impurities as fresh water leached it out. It is even thought that the sand may have made its way from the interior of Australia, which once had large amounts of exposed granite, which turned into sand as it was broken down. With the rise of the oceans, the sand is said to have shifted to the coast to what is now Whitehaven Beach.
It remains unknown for sure how Whitehaven Beach came to be the beach we know and love today, making a visit here even more special. You can see the mystery and beauty of the beach for yourself with many day tours and overnight tours departing daily.
Egypt :-
Egypt, officially noted as the Arab Republic of Egypt is a transcontinental country linking the two continents - Asia and Africa through the Sinai peninsula. It is a Mediterranean country bordered by the Gaza Strip, Israel to the northeast, the Gulf of Aqaba to the east, Libya to the west, the Red Sea to the east and south and Sudan to the south. Egypt is considered the most tourist-friendly country in the Middle East and Africa because of its travel-friendly environment and great hospitality.
The country is truly a mélange of civilizations encompassing the Pharaohs, Nubians, Persians, Greeks, Romans, Copts, Arabs, Maluks, and Ottomans. These ancient civilizations have the distinction of having lasted longer than most other known older civilizations. Their remnants and relics still dot the country. The famous pre-dynastic civilization of the Nile valley has its roots in Egypt. Also, the ancient Pharaonic dynasty, known for their pyramids was based here. The country, thus, is rich in history and culture since time immemorial.
Egypt boasts of one of the most iconic landmarks in the world - the Great Pyramid at Giza - one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, that still survives intact. Its other attractions include the Great Sphinx of Giza, other Egyptian pyramids, the Luxor temple, Egyptian Museusm among others. Sharm-el-sheikh is a world famous beach resort, known for its coral reefs. No visit to Cairo can be deemed complete without visiting the Khan-el-Khalili bazaar, a paradise for shopping lovers. The quiet town of Aswan is also a recommended visit to soak in the peace of the Nile, juxtaposed with the dunes. Valley of the Kings and famous cities like Hurghada, Alexandria, Luxor boast a rich heritage and are interesting places to visit.
Egyptian cuisine is a popular world cuisine - an eclectic fusion of the various civilizations that have made Egypt their home over the years. Kebabs and rice are the staple diet, flavored with spices. Baba ghannoug, a paste made from eggplants, and a variety of koftas are served with different courses.
You don’t need to browse through hundreds of holiday destinations across the globe for your perfect vacation. From its sun, sea, and sand interspersed with a touch of exotic culture and heritage, ancient monuments, vast deserts, world famous coral reefs to cosmopolitan cities -the mesmerizing land of Egypt has it all!
Dudhsagar Falls :-
One of the most scenic waterfalls in India, Dudhsagar literally means ‘Sea of Milk’. Though perennial, the beauty of the waterfall increases multi-fold during the rainy season. Dudhsagar Waterfall is situated inside the Bhagwan Mahavir wildlife sanctuary in Sanguem district of Goa close to the border with Karnataka. It is about 60 km from state capital Panaji. Water plummets from a height of over 1,000 ft to form one of the most amazing natural phenomena in Goa. The waterfall is called Vajra Sakala Falls by the locals but most people know it as Tambdi Surla falls based on the popular trekking tale to the waterfall which starts from Tambdi Surla Mahadev Temple. The waterfall is four-tiered waterfall and is about 1015 ft high and 100 ft wide.
According to legend, the waterfall was once the abode of a beautiful princess. The princess used to drink sweetened milk from a golden jug after she took a bath. One day, she spotted a prince watching her while she drank the milk. She poured the milk to form a curtain to hide her modesty.
The roads leading to the waterfall, maintained by the Goa Forest Department, remain closed during the monsoon and open in October. Trekking to the waterfall is the most popular activity and passes through steep mountain terrain. Jeep safari is also popular with tourists. There are four routes to reach the waterfall. The most adventurous trek starts from Kuveshi village. It is not allowed during monsoon as it requires cross the Mandovi River. The 10 km long route passes through thick jungle.
During monsoon, the trek from Castle Rock railway station to the waterfall is very popular. It is about 14 km long and offers amazing views of the valley. The third trail starting from Collem railway station or Kulhem railway station; is about 11 km long. Though scenic it is not as popular as the trail from Castle Rock. The easiest way to reach the waterfall is to take a 4×4 vehicle to the Dudhsagar taxi stand and hike the one km distance from the dropping point. The route is preferred by those who travel in big groups which also included women and children.
Toy Train, Darjeeling :-
Darjeeling might make you think of tea and romantic lush rolling hills, but it’s as likely to make you think of the Darjeeling Railway, popularized outside of India in Wes Anderson’s fictional Darjeeling Limited. We take a look at the history and beauty of this scenic train route.
Nestled in the north of West Bengal, India are the towns of Darjeeling and New Jalpaiguri. The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, which is also known as the Toy Train, runs between these two towns. Running on the narrow gauge, it was built between 1879 and 1881. The distance it travels is around 78 kilometers. The most interesting part is that it travels over the elevated terrain – from about 100 meters when it begins in New Jalpaiguri to 2,200 meters when it reaches Darjeeling.
The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999, and the amazing thing is that it is the second railway to have such an honor. The train covers a distance of 78 kilometers between Darjeeling and New Jalpaiguri. The thirteen stations it stops at are New Jalpaiguri, Siliguri Town, Siliguri Junction, Sukna, Rongtong, Tindharia, Gayabari, Mahanadi, Kurseong, Tung, Sonada, Ghum and Darjeeling.
All the assets of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, both movable and immovable, which include the line, track vehicles, etc., are under the Ministry of Railways, Government of India.
In the United Kingdom, there is an organization called The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway Society that aims to promote people’s interest in the railway.
The railway’s headquarters is the town of Kurseong. However, since 2010, the services between New Jalpaiguri and Kurseong have been suspended due to landslides. In fact, the entire service had been stalled.
Since December 2015, the service between New Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling has been resumed. One of the stations where the Toy Train stops, the one just before Darjeeling, is Ghum. Ghum happens to be the highest railway station in India.
Apart from steam-charter trains, you also have the option of taking the joyride trains from Darjeeling to Ghum and back. Yet another trip the railways makes is the Jungle Safari special from Siliguri Junction to Gayabari and back. So, if you are heading towards Darjeeling, book your tickets because this is one journey you must take.
