The first unit led by Major R S Sadhu was tasked with establishing a position on the heights of the glacier. The next unit led by Captain Sanjay Kulkarni secured Bilafond La. The remaining units led by Captain P V Yadav moved forward and climbed for four days to secure the remaining heights of the Saltoro Ridge.[7] By 13 April, approximately 300 Indian troops were dug into the critical peaks and passes of the glacier.

By the time Pakistani troops managed to get to the area, they found that the Indian Army had control over all major mountain passes of Sia La, Bilafond La and Gyong La and all the commanding heights of the Saltoro Ridge west of the Siachen Glacier.[1] Handicapped by the altitude and the limited time, Pakistan could only manage to control the Saltoro Ridge's western slopes and foothills; despite the fact that Pakistan possessed more ground accessible routes to the area, unlike Indian access which was largely reliant on air drops for supplies due to the steeper eastern side of the glacier.

The Indian Army advance now controlled 985.71 sq mi (2,553.0 km2) of its own territory. Camps were soon converted into permanent posts by both countries. The number of casualties on both sides during this particular operation is not known.

देशाचे संरक्षणमंत्री राजनाथ सिंह यांनी केलेल्या विधानाचा पाकिस्तानने निषेध केला आहे.
“भारतात दहशतवादी कारवाया करून कोणी पाकिस्तानात पळून गेला तर आम्ही त्याला पाकिस्तानात घुसून मारू”, असे विधान देशाचे संरक्षणमंत्री राजनाथ सिंह यांनी एका वृत्तवाहिनीला दिलेल्या मुलाखतीदरम्यान केले होते. त्यानंतर आता पाकिस्तानने त्यावर प्रतिक्रिया दिली असून या विधानाचा निषेध केला आहे. पाकिस्तानचे परराष्ट्र खात्याचे मंत्री म्हणाले की, राजनाथ सिंह यांचे विधान चिथावणीखोर असून दीर्घकालीन संबंधाच्या प्रयत्नांमध्ये अडथळा आणणारे आहे.
पाकिस्तानने शांतता प्रस्थापित करण्यासाठी नेहमी प्रयत्न केले आणि आपली वचनबद्धता दाखविली. पाकिस्तान स्वतःच्या सुरक्षेसाठी सक्षम असून इतिहासात आम्ही वेळोवेळी हे दाखवून दिलेले आहे.

गार्डियन या दैनिकाने पाकिस्तानात गेल्या काही काळात झालेल्या कारवायांचा हवाला देऊन भारताने २० पेक्षा अधिक लोकांना पाकिस्तानी भूमीवर लक्ष्य केल्याचे म्हटले. याचाच धागा पकडून संरक्षणमंत्री राजनाथ सिंह यांना सीएनएन-न्यूज १८ च्या मुलाखतीमध्ये प्रश्न विचारण्यात आला होता. यावर बोलताना राजनाथ सिंह म्हणाले, “कोणीही आमच्या देशाची शांतता भंग करण्याचा प्रयत्न केला तर आम्ही त्यांना जशास तसं प्रत्युत्तर देऊ. कोणी भारतात दहशतवादी कारवाया केल्या आणि पळून पाकिस्तानला गेला तर आम्ही त्याला पाकिस्तानमध्ये घुसून मारू.”
भारताकडे डोळे वटारून पाहाल तर…
राजनाथ सिंह पुढे म्हणाले, भारताने कधीही कोणत्याही देशावर हल्ला केला नाही किंवा कोणत्याही देशाचा भूभाग ताब्यात घेण्याचा प्रयत्न केला नाही. पण भारताला कुणीही धमकावण्याचा किंवा इथली शांतता भंग करण्याचा प्रयत्न करत असेल, तर त्यांना सोडले जाणार नाही.
राजनाथ सिंह पुढे म्हणाले, “भारताची ताकद किती आहे, हे आता पाकिस्तानलाही समजले आहे. भारत शक्तीशाली आहे. त्याचबरोबर भारत आपल्या शेजाऱ्यांबरोबर चांगले संबंध ठेवण्याचा प्रयत्न करतो. मात्र भारताकडे कोणी डोळे वटारले, भारतात दहशतवादी कारवाया केल्या तर त्यांची काही खैर नाही.”

पंतप्रधान नरेंद्र मोदी यांनी 9 मार्च 2024 रोजी अरुणाचल प्रदेश मधील इटानगर येथे विकसित भारत विकसित ईशान्य प्रदेश कार्यक्रमादरम्यान दूरदृश्य प्रणालीद्वारे सेला बोगद्याचे लोकार्पण केले. हा बोगदा सीमा रस्ते संघटनेने (बीआरओ ) अरुणाचल प्रदेशातील पश्चिम कामेंग जिल्ह्यातील तवांगला आसामच्या तेजपूरशी जोडणाऱ्या रस्त्यावर 13,000 फूट उंचीवर बांधला आहे. एकूण 825 कोटी रुपये खर्चून बांधण्यात आलेला हा बोगदा बलीपारा - चरिदुआर - तवांग रोडवरील सेला खिंड ओलांडून तवांगला सर्व ऋतूंमध्ये कनेक्टिव्हिटी प्रदान करेल, सशस्त्र दलांची सज्जता वाढवेल आणि सीमावर्ती भागाच्या सामाजिक-आर्थिक विकासाला चालना देईल.
आपल्या भाषणात, पंतप्रधानांनी ईशान्य क्षेत्राच्या विकासाप्रति सरकारची अतूट वचनबद्धता व्यक्त केली . ते म्हणाले की सेला बोगदा सर्व ऋतूंमध्ये कनेक्टिव्हिटी प्रदान करेल आणि तवांगच्या लोकांसाठी प्रवास सुखकर करेल. ईशान्य प्रदेशात अनेक बोगद्यांचे काम सुरू आहे असे ते म्हणाले.
सीमावर्ती गावांच्या विकासाकडे यापूर्वी दुर्लक्ष झाल्याची टीका पंतप्रधानांनी केली. निवडणुका डोळ्यासमोर ठेवून नव्हे तर देशाच्या गरजेनुसार काम करण्याची आपली शैली आहे याचा त्यांनी पुनरुच्चार केला. आपल्या पुढील कार्यकाळात अभियांत्रिकी कौशल्याचा नमुना असलेल्या या ठिकाणी भेटायला येऊ असे त्यांनी सुरक्षा दलाच्या जवानांना वचन दिले.
उद्घाटन समारंभाला अरुणाचल प्रदेशचे मुख्यमंत्री पेमा खांडू आणि भूविज्ञान मंत्री किरेन रिजिजू उपस्थित होते.
सेला बोगदा नवीन ऑस्ट्रियन टनेलिंग पद्धती वापरून बांधण्यात आला आहे आणि त्यात सर्वोच्च मानकांची सुरक्षा वैशिष्ट्ये समाविष्ट आहेत. हा प्रकल्प या प्रदेशात केवळ जलद आणि अधिक कार्यक्षम वाहतूक मार्ग प्रदान करणार नाही तर देशासाठी सामरिकदृष्ट्या देखील तो महत्त्वाचा आहे.
बोगद्याची पायाभरणी पंतप्रधानांच्या हस्ते 9 फेब्रुवारी 2019 रोजी करण्यात आली आणि 1 एप्रिल 2019 रोजी बांधकामाला सुरुवात झाली. कठीण भूप्रदेश आणि प्रतिकूल हवामानासारख्या आव्हानांवर मात करून हा बोगदा अवघ्या पाच वर्षांत बांधून पूर्ण झाला आहे. सीमावर्ती भागाच्या विकासात बीआरओ नेहमीच आघाडीवर राहिले आहे. गेल्या तीन वर्षांत, बीआरओ ने 8,737 कोटी रुपये खर्चून विक्रमी 330 पायाभूत सुविधा प्रकल्प बांधून पूर्ण केले आहेत.

८ मार्चला आंतरराष्ट्रीय महिला दिवस साजरा केला जातो. महिला शक्तीचा सन्मान करणे, त्यांच्या कर्तृत्वाला चालना देणे, अशा प्रकारच्या सकारात्मक बाबींना उजाळा देण्यासाठी या दिवशी जगात सर्वत्र विविध उपक्रम राबवले जातात. मात्र त्यांच्या सुरक्षेचे काय? यापुढे असे उपक्रम एका दिवसापुरते मर्यादित न ठेवता सातत्याने राबवून त्यांना अधिकाधिक सक्षम, समर्थ व स्वावलंबी करणे अत्यावश्यक आहे. तरच हा दिवस साजरा करणे संयुक्तिक ठरेल.
आपल्याकडे एखाद्या स्त्रीवर, मुलीवर अत्याचार झाल्यानंतर त्याचे पडसाद देशभर पुढील काही दिवस पहायला मिळतात. चौकाचौकांत निदर्शने होतात, पोलिसांवर दगडफेक केली जाते, कँडल मार्च निघतात. मात्र जनतेचा हा क्षोभ काही दिवसात शमतो; यामुळे स्त्रियांवरील अत्याचार रोखण्यासाठी मदत मिळते का? निदर्शने, आंदोलने यातून फारसे काहीच निष्पन्न होत नाही. नुकत्याच संपलेल्या 2019 मध्ये स्त्रिया आणि मुलींवर झालेल्या अत्याचारात घट होण्याऐवजी वाढ झाल्याचे दिसते. अशा परिस्थितीत नेमके काय करायला हवे?
प्रत्येक भागाकरता नेमक्या सुरक्षेच्या उपाययोजना
सध्या दिल्लीमध्ये 2012 मध्ये घडलेल्या निर्भया बलात्कार आणि खून प्रकरणातील दोषींविरोधात काढण्यात आलेल्या डेथ वॉरंटविषयी चर्चा सुरु आहे. देशात बलात्काराची, अत्याचाराची इतकी प्रकरणे घडली आहेत आणि घडत आहेत की त्यामुळे स्रियांसाठी भीतीचे वातावरण निर्माण झाले आहे. आज स्त्री सुरक्षेचा प्रश्न हा इतका गहन झाला आहे की प्रत्येक स्त्रीमागे एक पोलिस नेमला तरच अशा घटना थांबवता येतील. पण हे अव्यवहार्य आहे. त्यामुळे आपल्याला व्यवहार्य उपाययोजनांचा विचार केला पाहिजे.
सर्वात पहिले स्त्रिया आणि त्यांच्या कुटुंबियांनी आपण ज्या भागात राहातो, ज्या कॉलेजमध्ये जातो, ज्या नोकरीसाठी जातो त्या सर्व ठिकाणी सुरक्षेची कुठली आव्हाने समोर येऊ शकतील याचा एकत्रित विचार करायला हवा. त्या आव्हानांना तोंड देण्यासाठी स्त्रियांना नेमके काय करावे लागेल यावर नियोजन केले जावे. कुटुंबिय, वस्तीतील,सोसायटीतील रहिवासी यांनी एकत्रितपणे यावर विचार केला तर प्रत्येक भागाकरता नेमक्या सुरक्षेच्या उपाययोजना करता येतील.
स्त्रियांनी फिजिकल फिटनेस वाढवण्याची गरज
एखादा भाग किंवा रस्ता हा निर्मनुष्य असतो, रस्त्यावर रात्री काळोख असतो, रस्त्यावर समाजविघातक घटकांची ये-जा सुरू असते. अशा ठिकाणी स्त्रियांची सुरक्षितता वाढवण्यासाठी पोलिस, होमगार्ड किंवा इतर स्वयंसेवकांची गस्त घालणे शक्य होईल का? काळोख्या भागात पुरेशी प्रकाश व्यवस्था, संवेदनशील भागामध्ये संध्याकाळच्या वेळेला किंवा रात्रीच्या वेळी पहारा देता येईल का?
एक समाज म्हणून नेमके काय करता येईल? महिलांना नोकरी, व्यवसाय किंवा इतर अनेक कारणांनी बाहेर पडावे लागते. दर वेळी वडील, भाऊ, नवरा बरोबर नसतात, त्यामुळे अनावस्था प्रसंग ओढवल्यास स्त्रीला स्वतःची सुरक्षा स्वतःच करावी लागते. म्हणून स्त्रियांनी फिजिकल फिटनेस वाढवण्याची गरज आहे. संकटाच्या प्रसंगी पळून जाण्याची वेळ आली तर तसे करता आले पाहिजे. आपत्कालीन परिस्थितीत कमीत कमी पाच ते दहा मिनिटे स्वतःचे रक्षण कसे करता येईल यासाठी बॉक्सिंग, कराटे अशा प्रकारचे स्वसंरक्षणात्मक धडे घेणे गरजेचे आहे. ते घेतल्यास सज्जन शक्ती मदतिस येइपर्यंत स्त्रियांना आपला बचाव करता येइल.हे शिक्षण शाळेपासुन सुरु केले जावे.
सुरक्षा अॅप डाऊनलोड करा
दुसरा उपाय म्हणजे, हल्ली अनेकांकडे स्मार्टफोन असतात. अनेक सुरक्षा अॅप पोलिसांनी निर्माण केले आहेत. मोबाईलचा वापर करणार्या सर्व तरुणी-महिलांनी ते डाऊनलोड करावेत.
त्यातील सर्वात महत्त्वाचे अॅप आहे निर्भया अॅप. संकटप्रसंगी मोबाईलचे बटण तीन चार वेळेला दाबले तर हे अॅप त्वरीत सुरू होते आणि जिथे घटना घडत आहे तिथला क्रमांक एसएमएसद्वारे सुरक्षा दलांना पाठवते. जीपीएसद्वारे लोकेशन पाठवून मदतीची हाक देता येते. त्यामुळे नजीकच्या पोलिस स्टेशनशी संपर्क साधता येतो.
याव्यतिरिक्त एसओएस अॅप आहे. हे स्टेसेफ अॅप डाऊनलोड केल्यानंतर पॉवर बटणच्या आधारे आपोआप सुरू होते आणि तीन वेळा पॉवर बटण दाबल्यास आपत्कालीन परिस्थितीत आपला क्रमांक मेसेजद्वारे पाठवता येतो. ज्या व्यक्तीने एसएमएस पाठवला आहे त्याची जागा शोधण्यातही पोलिसांना यश येते. याशिवाय विथ यू नावाचे अॅप्लिकेशन तयार करण्यात आले आहे. या अॅपमुळे दोन वेळा बटण दाबल्यास लोकशनसह मोबाईल नंबर पाठवता येतो. यामध्ये आपला नवरा, मित्र, आई, बहिण भाऊ त्यांनाही आपल्यावरील संकटप्रसंगाची माहिती देता येते. त्यामुळे मदत लवकर पोहोचू शकते.
स्मार्टफोन्सचा वापर करत असाल तर स्पॉट इन सेव्ह नावाचे मनगटी बँड उपयोगात आणता येतो. स्मार्ट 24 बाय 7 हे अॅप महिला आणि ज्येष्ठ नागरिकांसाठी आहे. त्यांनी अलर्ट दाबल्यास पोलिसांना माहिती पाठवली जाते आणि पोलिसांची मदत लवकरात लवकर मिळू शकते. वुमन सेफ्टी हे अॅप्लिकेशन देखील महिलांच्या सुरक्षिततेसाठी आहे. त्यात आपण नातेवाईकांचे क्रमांक सेव्ह करू शकतो.

The wedding celebrations will begin on March 1 in Jamnagar, Gujarat, while the couple will tie the knot on July 12.
Anant has grown up in Jamnagar so the venue has significance for the Ambani family. But Anant has also said that he was inspired to choose Jamnagar by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Wed in India' call. "It's a matter of pride and happiness when our PM said that one should get married in India," he said.

Just ponder… these days a new milieu is being created by some families to go abroad and conduct weddings. Is this at all necessary? If we celebrate the festivities of marriages on Indian soil, amid the people of India, the country's money will remain in the country,” Modi said.
Modi's idea was part of his 'Vocal for Local' mission. He said the sentiment of becoming vocal towards Indian products should not be limited to festivals only and during the wedding season people should go for 'Made in India' products. Modi's nudge to the rich and famous to prefer local destinations to foreign ones for weddings is a significant ploy to boost India's economy because weddings mean mega business in India. Indians, of all classes, are known to splurge on weddings.
Modi said some estimates suggest that there could be a business of around Rs 5 lakh crore during this wedding season. No doubt, given India's huge wedding economy, a preference for local destinations will prove to be a huge economic boost.
India's $51 billion wedding economy During last year's winter wedding season, after consultations with trade bodies and stakeholders across 30 cities, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) had predicted a substantial economic surge.
With an estimated 38 lakh weddings expected to take place across the country, the mainline retail sector, encompassing goods and services, anticipated a staggering business worth Rs 4.74 lakh crore ($51 billion), as per CAIT.

Just ponder… these days a new milieu is being created by some families to go abroad and conduct weddings. Is this at all necessary? If we celebrate the festivities of marriages on Indian soil, amid the people of India, the country's money will remain in the country,” Modi said.
Modi's idea was part of his 'Vocal for Local' mission. He said the sentiment of becoming vocal towards Indian products should not be limited to festivals only and during the wedding season people should go for 'Made in India' products. Modi's nudge to the rich and famous to prefer local destinations to foreign ones for weddings is a significant ploy to boost India's economy because weddings mean mega business in India. Indians, of all classes, are known to splurge on weddings.
Modi said some estimates suggest that there could be a business of around Rs 5 lakh crore during this wedding season. No doubt, given India's huge wedding economy, a preference for local destinations will prove to be a huge economic boost.
India's $51 billion wedding economy During last year's winter wedding season, after consultations with trade bodies and stakeholders across 30 cities, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) had predicted a substantial economic surge.
With an estimated 38 lakh weddings expected to take place across the country, the mainline retail sector, encompassing goods and services, anticipated a staggering business worth Rs 4.74 lakh crore ($51 billion), as per CAIT.

वृत्तसंस्था, नवी दिल्ली: बहुउद्देशीय सागरी टेहळणी विमानाच्या खरेदीसह लष्कराचे सामर्थ्य वाढवण्यासाठी अन्य संरक्षण सामग्रीच्या खरेदीसाठी ८४ हजार ५६० कोटी रुपयांच्या खर्चाला संरक्षण मंत्रालयाने शुक्रवारी मंजुरी दिली. याविषयीचे प्रस्ताव संरक्षणमंत्री राजनाथ सिंह यांच्या अध्यक्षतेखालील डिफेन्स अॅक्विझिशन कौन्सिल (डॅक) ने मंजूर केले.

यामध्ये शत्रुच्या प्रदेशात घुसून माहिती मिळवणारे मीडियम रेंज मेरिटाइम रिकोनेसान्स आणि बहुउद्देशीय सागरी टेहळणी विमान खरेदी केल्यामुळे भारतीय नौदलाची क्षमता वाढणार आहे. तसेच भारतीय तटरक्षक दलासही यामुळे बळ मिळणार आहे, असे संरक्षण मंत्रालयाने सांगितले आहे.

हवाई दलाची संरक्षण यंत्रणा अधिक सक्षम करण्यासाठी एअर डिफेन्स टॅक्टिकल कन्ट्रोल रडार खरेदी केली जाणार आहे. विशेषतः यामुळे धीम्या गतीचे, छोटे व कमी उंचीवरील लक्ष्याचा भेद करणे शक्य होणार आहे. भारतीय वायू सेनेसाठी हवेत लष्करी विमानांत इंधन भरणाऱ्या विमानांची खरेदी आवश्यक ठरणार आहे.

हमास आणि इस्रायल यांच्यात गाझा पट्टीत उडालेल्या धुमश्चक्रीचे पडसाद संपूर्ण टापूमध्ये उमटतील, असा अंदाज हा संघर्ष सुरू झाला त्या वेळीच व्यक्त करण्यात आला होता. या संघर्षामध्ये इराण ओढला गेल्यानंतर त्याची व्याप्ती आणखी वाढणार होती. कारण इस्रायल आणि त्याचा कट्टर पाठीराखा अमेरिका या दोन देशांना इराण अनुक्रमे शत्रू क्रमांक एक आणि दोन मानतो. इस्रायली गुप्तहेर संघटना मोसादच्या इराकमधील कार्यालयावर मध्यंतरी इराणने थेट हल्ला केला होता. आता जॉर्डन-सीरिया सीमेवरील एका अमेरिकी ठाण्यावर झालेल्या ड्रोन हल्ल्यात तीन अमेरिकी सैनिकांचा मृत्यू झाला असून, हा हल्ला इराणचे समर्थन असलेल्या दहशतवादी गटाने घडवला अशी अमेरिकेची धारणा आहे. गतवर्षी ७ ऑक्टोबर रोजी हमास-इस्रायल संघर्षाला सुरुवात झाल्यानंतर या टापूत प्रथमच अमेरिकी सैनिकांची प्राणहानी झाली आहे. या प्राणहानीचा मूळ संघर्षाशी थेट नसला, तरी अप्रत्यक्ष संबंध आहे. अमेरिकेचे अध्यक्ष जो बायडेन यांनी या हल्ल्यास प्रत्युत्तर देण्याचा निर्धार व्यक्त केला. हे तसे स्वाभाविकच. बायडेन यांच्या दृष्टीने हे वर्ष राजकीयदृष्ट्या अत्यंत कळीचे आहे. अध्यक्षीय निवडणूक या वर्षीच होत आहे. शिवाय इराणबाबत ते म्हणावे तितके आक्रमक नाहीत, असा प्रचार त्यांचे विरोधक करत आहेतच. अमेरिकेचे संभाव्य प्रत्युत्तर किती तीव्र असेल, यावर पश्चिम आशियातील परिस्थिती कितपत चिघळणार हे ठरेल. एकीकडे इस्रायल आणि हमास यांच्यातील शस्त्रविरामाची चर्चा अंतिम टप्प्यात आलेली असताना, नव्याच संघर्षाला तोंड फुटणे भारतासह अनेक देशांसाठी नवी डोकेदुखी ठरू शकते.
अमेरिकेच्या सैनिकांना थेट लक्ष्य करण्याची ही पहिलीच वेळ नाही. यापूर्वी इराकच्या पश्चिमेकडील अल असाद या हवाई तळावर इराण-समर्थित गटांनी केलेल्या अग्निबाण हल्ल्यामध्ये काही सैनिक जखमी झाले होते. इराण समर्थक किंवा इराणने गेल्या काही काळात सीरिया, इराक, पाकिस्तान, लाल समुद्र अशा भागांत हल्ले केले आहेत. इस्रायलच्या भूमीवर थेट हल्ला केलेला नाही, मात्र तसे झाल्यास त्यातून उद्भवणारा युद्धजन्य आगडोंब अकल्पित विध्वंसक ठरू शकतो. आता ताज्या हल्ल्यामध्ये अमेरिकी सैनिक मारले गेल्यामुळे अमेरिकेचा प्रतिहल्ला व्यापक आणि तीव्र असू शकतो. अतिरेकी संघटना पदरी बाळगून त्यांच्यामार्फत इस्रायल, अमेरिकेच्या आणि कधी अरब देशांच्या कुरापती काढण्याचा इराणचा उद्याोग आगीशी खेळण्यासारखा होताच. त्याच वेळी दुसरीकडे, इस्रायली वसाहती पश्चिम किनारपट्टी आणि गाझामध्ये अवैधरीत्या विस्तारण्याचा बेन्यामिन नेतान्याहूंचा उद्याोगही कमी आक्षेपार्ह नव्हता. तितकेच आक्षेपार्ह ठरले, या अवैध विस्तारवादाकडे कधी दुर्लक्ष करण्याचे किंवा डोनाल्ड ट्रम्प अमदानीत त्याचे समर्थन करण्याचे अमेरिकेचे धोरण. या सगळ्यांच्या संघर्षवादी धोरण आणि स्वभावाचा फटका मोठ्या प्रमाणात बाह्यजगताला बसत आहे. कारण जगातील खनिज तेलाची जवळपास ७० टक्के वाहतूक आणि युरोप ते आशिया अशी जीवनावश्यक वस्तूंची वाहतूक या टापूतून होते. या तेल आणि मालवाहतुकीला हुथी बंडखोरांनी लक्ष्य केले आहे आणि त्यांना इराणचे समर्थन आहे. खुद्द इराणमध्ये इतर देशांशी सातत्याने संघर्ष करत राहण्याची क्षमता नाही. आर्थिक निर्बंध आणि अंतर्गत राजकीय असंतोषामुळे हा देश जर्जर झाला आहे. परंतु तेथील धर्मसत्तेची युद्ध खुमखुमी जिरलेली नाही. इस्रायल-हमास संघर्ष सुरू झाल्यापासून अमेरिकेने दोन उद्दिष्टे निर्धारित केली होती. इस्रायलच्या सोयीने आणि इच्छेनुसार संघर्ष थांबवणे आणि त्याची व्याप्ती मर्यादित ठेवणे. दोन्ही उद्दिष्टे सफल होऊ शकलेली नाहीत. इस्रायल आता शस्त्रविरामाच्या सशर्त शक्यता वर्तवू लागला असला, तरी तोपर्यंत २६ हजार पॅलेस्टिनींना प्राण गमवावे लागले. आता तर इस्रायलपेक्षा अमेरिकेलाच इराण आणि समर्थित संघटना लक्ष्य करू लागल्या आहेत. या दुहेरी अपयशाचे दूरगामी परिणाम संभवतात. अमेरिकेने इराणवर किंवा इतरत्र इराण समर्थित संघटनांवर बेबंद हल्ले सुरू केल्यास मोठी जीवितहानी संभवते. यातून आखातातील अमेरिकेची मित्र असलेली अरब राष्ट्रे दुखावली आणि दुरावली जाऊ शकतात. पण प्रत्युत्तर दिले नाही, तर अध्यक्ष बायडेन अडचणीत येऊ शकतात. ताजी घटना ही त्यामुळेच अमेरिकी संयमाची सत्त्वपरीक्षा पाहणारी ठरते.

While Prayagraj and Varanasi were already drawing crores of pilgrims every year, newly spruced-up Ayodhya has joined their league. Last year, the three UP cities together had close to 15 crore visitors – almost half of the state’s 32-crore tourist traffic. If the opening of Kashi-Vishwanath Corridor made Varanasi a magnet, Ram Mandir is expected to do the same for Ayodhya. The town’s tourist footfall has already shot up from nearly 3.5 lakh in 2019 to over 2 crore in both 2022 and 2023. “Interest in Ayodhya has gone up exponentially. “All properties and allied services like taxis are sold out from January 15 to 25. The demand is high after the (temple consecration) event as well. And over 80% of tourists are pilgrims.”
While Prayagraj is a steady draw, averaging around 4 crore arrivals in most years, Varanasi has jumped to the top with 8.4 crore visitors last year, as against over 60 lakh in 2017. Temple visits boost businesses involved in transportation, food and lodging, sacred offerings, sightseeing, entertainment and shopping. “The economic potential of each of these activities gives good return on investment.Job creation from tourism in the holy triangle will slow down migration to Delhi-NCR and Mumbai.
