Dr. Rajesh Jain, CMD, Panacea Biotec shared thoughts and experiences with The Wharton School’s Executive MBA Students and Faculty Members taking the course on “Entrepreneurship, Strategy and Business Environment in Emerging Markets: The Indian Perspective” on March 11, 2024. Visiting delegation included Prof. Harbir Singh, Prof. Rahul Kapoor, Prof. Ziv Katalan, Managing Director, Global Initiatives, Amy Nichols, Director, Wharton Global Initiatives, . Sunil Karnawat and 27 students.

Dr. Rajesh Jain discussed the unfolding growth story of India into the next decade and how we have leveraged the entire ecosystem to make the best for the world! We elaborated Panacea Biotec’s journey to eradicate Polio by creating “fit for market” solutions at the right time to finally get to 0 cases of Polio in India in 2011. The “zero” that we celebrate every moment even today!
Dr. Jain shared that at Panacea Biotec, we innovate by spotting gaps in the market e.g. creating innovative vaccines like fully-liquid tetravalent, pentavalent, and hexavalent wP-based combination vaccines (EasyFour-TT, EasyFive-TT, EasySix, and EasyFour-Pol) that now form the bedrock of global immunisation programs. In all this, we believed and continue to believe in the Indian ecosystem of academics, regulators, and young talent who stepped forward and delivered.

A student inquired about the biggest challenge – after careful reflection, I must reiterate that in a business like ours – demand and supply gaps are not good for the people whereas, making excessive capital investments in anticipation that our innovation will succeed and get to market – may not be an easy call for the company.
Interactions like these serve as a reminder of the necessity for open dialogue between companies and academia. Through such exchanges, we collaboratively shape skills in young minds, foster development opportunities, and exchange valuable experiences globally.
